I'm going back! 5/2/2010

My boyfriend and I had just gotten off work and we were hungry for a steak and decided to take a walk and find somewhere to sit down and relax after a long day. After blocks of delis and closed restaurants (at 11:00 on a Sat?!) we stumbled upon Leon's. They sqeezed us in at a table in the middle of the floor, but we had as much room as we needed. It took a while for them to take our order but the waiter paid for our drinks for the delay and the food was well worth it. Steak was cooked perfectly and the salad complemented it to a tee. I can't wait to go back. The Leon's Cafe Au Lait was the best part! Pros: Amazing drinks, great food Cons: Tight quarters...or "cozy" more

Incredible French Bistro 1/10/2010

You will like Leon because of it's incredible charm, but once you sit down and try the food you will fall in love. Ownership changed hands in early 2008 and this small French bistro has knocked it out of the park. It's a hidden NYC gem that doesn't get nearly enough recognition for it's wonderful cuisine and superb customer service. Just try it once and you'll always be coming back for more. I've been trying to taste every dish on the menu and I haven't been disappointed thus far. Pros: Delicious cuisine, great ambiance Cons: Small, but cozy more

Best french bistro in the east village 10/21/2008

I actually discovered Leon after staff at Juliette (in williamsburg) told me that the ex-manager owned the place - I have grown extremely disappointed with Juliette, and was looking for a nice, laid-back, RELIABLE place to have a nice meal, and friendly conversation. I cannot tell you how I LOVED it! The (very) nice french bartender (beret and all!), the cute waiter, both very attentive and so charming, took pain in explaining the menu, and making sure that I was taken care of (I was having dinner by myself). Outstanding squids, and the fish special was superb! The only glitch was the espresso, and the fact that the menu is a little different from the one on citysearch, but altogether a highly enjoyable experience! Pros: Great atmosphere, good food Cons: amex only more

Just Try... 10/10/2008

Resto Leon is an excellent place for some fine dining in the city. It is not pricey, but the food is good and there are some cool dishes on the menu. They also have some nice desserts and a good wine selection more

WORST COSTUMER SERVICE 10/12/2007

I did not want to write u a bad review but could not find an email to complain... I've been going to leon for 1 year ,,, great place .... so great i wanted to take my parents there who visited from italy... i made reservation in person at 6.30 pm today for 9.15 pm.. just want the owner to know that bad enough i had to go and eat across the road at hearth very very angry and basically our dinner was ruined as LEON MANAGEMENT DID NOT MANAGE TO GIVE ME A TABLE for 9.45PM! AFTER THE RESERVATION I WAITED 30 MINUTES OUTSIDE WITH MY PARENTS AND NO SIGN OF A TABLE... WE WEREN'T EVEN OFFERED A DRINK FOR THE WAITING.... THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPEN IN NY IN PLACES U'VE NEVER BEEN BEFORE AND U WILL NEVER GO BACK BUT AT A FRIENDLY NEXT DOOR RESTAURANT IT IS SIMPLY ANACCETTABLE! I'M VERY HURT AS I HIGHLY THOUGHT OF LEON.... LUCKILY I DISCOVERED A GREAT NEW RESTAURANT... HEARTH.... SINCERELY FRANCESCO more

A Charming Surprise 1/17/2007

We stumbled across this restaurant and were delightfully surprised. The atmosphere is so charming: warm and cozy for a first date or chilled out to meet up with a friend. It?s almost like this small space adapts to the environment you want it to be. Our waitress was amazing. Nothing fancy, but she was just perfect?she spent 5-minutes with us explaining her ""favorite items"" on the menu (we asked) with just enough detail that we knew exactly what we would be getting. The chicken lollipops were amazing, and the chicken dish with parmesan polenta was outstanding. Apparently there is a new chef at this E. Village hot spot and he definitely knows what he is doing. Would highly recommend this place? Pros: Inexpensive and tastes like a gourmet meal more

Best Little Place 12/19/2006

A bunch of friends of mine went to Leon a couple of weekd ago. Apparently it has just reopened under new management. The food was perfect (bistro, comfort fare), and the wait staff was super friendly and warm. It's a great place for a date or to hang out, we'll definitely be going back. The bartender was also playing some great music. I wish all places were this relaxed and lovely. Pros: ambience, service, food more

Worst Service Ever 9/24/2005

While the staff at this little bistro is very friendly, I have never experienced more incompetency. Besides having the table we had been promised given to other restaurant patrons twice before we were actually seated, we were served dishes we hadn't ordered three times, received one of our orders 20 minutes after the rest of the table had been served (and that order was undercooked), and charged $45 more than we should have been on our bill. Please save yourself the frustration. more

If you want to eat in the bathroom... 5/19/2005

When we stumbled on Leon, we thought that we had found quite the gem BUT, we were certainly wrong. The waitress moved our table practically into the bathroom and when we asked to cancel our dinner orders because we did not want to eat sitting on the toilet, we were told no...Then, to top things off, she dropped used silverware on my boyfriend's jacket and did not stop to apologize or clean the mess that was left on clothes. Such a disappointment...Rude service, medicore food...there are tons of restaurants in NY...stay away from this one more
