Red Star Tavern

This little tavern was located about 2 blocks from out old apartment. We LOVED walking up to eat here. Partly because we could try all the martinis and not worry about driving (they have an extensive list) and also because the food is really good and filling. They have this one appetizer, that is a spinach con queso dip that also has portuguese sausage mixed in. It is heavenly. There have been times we've gone and just ordered 2 or 3 servings of that and nothing else. The rest of their food is also good. Try the rigatoni if they have it when you go. It always seems to look like it just opened. I've never seen more than 5 or 6 tables of people in there, but we've also never been there after 7:00 either, which I'm sure they pick up after that. Parking is across the street and it's a good pedestrian area so walking over is no problem. Their prices are fair and their waitstaff were phenomenal, very on the ball. I hope we move back to this area so we can go here again, or I hope it is a chain (not sure if it is or not) so that I may run into another location. more

An unlikely hotspot is Red Star Tavern, located in Virginia Beach's towncenter. Many locals go here to have a few drinks at the bar and socialize. The food on the menu is in the same range as an Outback Steakhouse with the same tasting food. The only thing lacking maybe is you do not get bread like at Outback. Red Star offers daily specials so depending on the day of the week you come in a special may be in store for you. The experience is very up beat, with young management and young people running the place. I would recommend for any type of outing from family to a date. more
