Poor craftmanship and customer service 7/24/2011

Very disapointed by my experience. The legs fell off one by one on my sofa and I finally got around to let them know today. Their answer? A cool 'you should have called before and if you want it fixed, it's going to cost you a hundred dollars'. Having to pay for bad craftmanship on a 1000 dollar sofa? I think not. Terrible business practice, just for a 100 dollars. Boggles the mind. \r more

Great buy 6/23/2011

I'm glad that they've come up with this idea. My wife and I are looking for our perfect sofa. We just bought a small apartment and wanted to choose our furniture very wisely. Since it's very small, we wanted a sofa that is not too bulky, not too big but will still look elegant. We also want it to match the fabrics we're using for our curtains. It's amazing that they have so many choices for the fabrics and for the designs. We ended up buying something we never thought we'd find and it's just great. We're just so excited to have it already. more

Found What I Wanted 6/2/2010

I have been looking for a custom sofa for a while now, I found this place, The Sofa Company and decided to take a look at their store. I finally found what I wanted and am so pleased. The service was really great and the products in the store are awesome. more

great experience 4/26/2010

My husband and i have been looking for a place to design exactly the sofa we wanted and found it here. \r The sales rep on the floor Jennifer was helpful in leading us to the stylles and also coordinating with the designer, Natalie. Natalies really helped us to design the fabrics and assisted us with details we didn't even realize were important. Thanks to sofa company santa monica \r Toby and Sheila Chess Pros: personnel know their items Cons: took time to get with the designer more

Great Experience! 2/22/2010

We had very specific requirements for a couch that other stores either couldn't accomodate or added so many extra charges that it wasn't worth it. At the Sofa Company, we were able to get a couch that we could specify to our exact requirements -- greater height, wider, longer and firmer. The extra cost was only several hundred dollars more as opposed to over a thousand dollars more at two other stores we visited. Our salesperson, Kara, was so knowledgeable and patient with us and also helped us find the perfect fabric. All in all, a great experience. We're really looking forward to receiving our couch and using it for many years. Pros: Great selections, lots of fabrics; knowledge salesperson Cons: Website doesn't offer the options that are avilable in store more

Very frustrating experience! 1/28/2010

While the sofa I had made by the Sofa Company is nice, my experience with them was frustrating and every time I see the couch I am reminded of what a difficult and annoying process it was. My couch arrived over two weeks late and had the wrong legs attached to it. I am extremely busy, as most people are, so having to deal with this situation is the last thing I have time for, and they did not make it easy. I had to call 6 times before someone finally returned my call and could give me an update on my couch. I also had several emails go unanswered and felt neglected as a customer. I also feel that I had to correct their mistakes. I had to explain to them why it was an issue to have the couch delayed and had to suggest to them that they waive the delivery charge. I am also now responsible for taking the legs off of my couch, going to the store to exchange for the correct ones, and attaching the right legs myself. Their communication and customer service skills are poor to say the least and I would recommend going elsewhere for your couch. Cons: poor customer service, lack of communication more

Hooked 12/29/2009

We hear the phrase ""custom sofa"" and automatically think expensive...not the case here. After checking out the website (which is confusing as heck), my wife and I went into the Santa Monica store, where the experience was much easier. We walked in thinking we wanted one style sofa and fabric, and left purchasing something completely different. The process of picking out the fabric and the extras was simple, once the sales associate laid everything out for us. The price wound up being comparable to, if not less expensive than what we'd typical pay for a sofa at Z Gallerie or Pottery Barn. The only problem (if you'd consider this a problem)...there are so many fabric choices to choose from that it can become overwhelming - at one point, my eyes began to glaze over. Overall, my wife and I are extremely pleased by the product (which is yet to be delivered) and by the sales people, who know their product. My wife wants to return when its time to redecorate the livingroom. Pros: In store process is easy Cons: can be overwhelming more

A Sofa for Everyone 12/13/2009

After looking all over for just the right sofa, was delighted to discover creative options at The Sofa Co.\r \r I love my new sofa & loveseat. --Thank you Natalie! more

Great Choices 12/4/2009

Excellent sales person, Hannah. She gave us great service and help. There are many sofas to choice from . We shopped around and found The Sofa Co. to have good prices, many styles and one to meet our needs. The only draw back was the material we picked was back ordered so it took a little longer to get made. Other then that we are looking forward to getting our new sectional. Pros: excellent service and choices Cons: slow on delivery due to material being back ordered more

Great Place 12/3/2009

Shopping at Sofaco was a great experience. There are tons of fabrics and styles to choose from and its really easy to customize products and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Service is great too. Pros: Customized Sofas and other Furniture more

THE WORST 11/16/2009

Absolutly the worst!! After being quoted three different prices in the store because the sales girl didn't seem to know what she was doing they give me a discount to reflect the middle price. They told me it would be delivered in 4-6 weeks, at week 7 after i called them, they said it is ready, so week 8 it is deliverd only they can't get it in so i have to reschedule. They told me i need a 3 hour block of time so they can take it apart and put it back together. The following week they come and after 4 hours they can't put it together. Had they told me it was so difficult to take apart and put together i would never have bought it. I just want my money back and now they are telling me that it is impossible to return the sofa and get my money back. I've moved many times and the movers always take apart my furniture and put it back together again, easily. Why is this so hard, had someone told me that when i bought it i would never have bought it. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE!!!!!!! I'm so upset about this whole ordeal, i just want my money back!! I hope the owners know what's going on!! Pros: I liked the product Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE more

Brilliant Idea 11/1/2009

I've never had this easy of a time buying any piece of furniture. Period. You walk in, all the models are out on display, you look and sit and test, and then you customize. The service couldn't have been better. Distant when I obviously wanted space and attentive when I obviously needed help. They helped me customize every last detail down to the nail head -- literally. I ended up with an extra deep, velvet tufted sofa. It's the center piece of my home. I'd recommend this place to anyone. I just wish they made beds and tables too. Pros: The Whole Concept more

best couches ever... 10/29/2009

I walk by this place like twice a week, but never bother going in. Yesterday I finally did and I fell in love with there couches. The fact that you can customize them is the greatest idea ever. I was in a rush so I didnt have time to sit on them, but they look even better in person then online. The only bad thing is that theres not price list online or in store, or even an estimate. So can anyone give me a little info about the prices. I know it varies, but I would just like to know how much some of you spent on yours. Thanks! more

the perfect sofa 10/11/2009

i had such a great experience picking out my new sofa here the other day. there are tons of styles to choose from and countless fabric choices. i walked in knowing what style i wanted but was a little less than clear on the type of fabric i wanted on it. i simply mentioned what i was thinking of and in minutes the salesperson, Evana, had exactly the right swatch for me... she brought alternatives and gave me time to look at the swatches in different light. she even helped me decide on a paint color for the room that's going to look just right with the sofa (i had a number of paint chips with me). i loved the fact that i could pick what type of wood i wanted for the legs, the style of legs, and i was able to extend the length of the couch so that it worked best in my home. the prices are very reasonable too. i'm really happy with my decision to buy from here and can't wait to get my sofa so i can enjoy it soon. more

Finally a business that has what we are looking for! 10/9/2009

My husband and I have been looking for a specific style sofa and could not find it anywhere. Just a few minutes in their showroom we knew our searching was over. After customizing our sofa to both our liking we ended up with 2 custom chairs also. Our salesperson Alex was knowledgeable and very helpful and made our experience perfect. I highly recommend The Sofa Company to anyone planning on purchasing a sofa or chairs. Thanks once again Alex for being so patient with us while deciding on the hundreds of choices we had. Pros: Quality materials-Expert craftsmanship-Choices galore! Cons: No cons to this experience at all more

worth the wait? 10/8/2009

We loved shopping for our sofa here. They had plenty of options, Cherie, our salesperson, was fantastic (extremely helpful without any pressure), and the price was right. We left the store extremely happy and excited about our sofa. However, you would think constructing our sofa was tantamount to building the international space station. We paid for the sofa on July 26, and they told us 4 to 6 weeks. It is now October 8.There were two delays on the fabric, and then when we called to see if our sofa was ready, they said it was, leaving us to wonder when they were going to bother to give us the news. Granted, this is probably specific to the fabric we chose. I don't think the Sofa Co. is really responsible for the delay (and they even agreed to remove our old sofa for free because of the hassle), but it would be nice if they knew which of their fabric offerings were available and which were not before one ordered the sofa. Don't hesitate to go there - particularly if Cherie is there to help you. But ask a lot of questions about when exactly you are going to get your sofa, and hold them to it. Pros: In-store experience with Cherie Detwiler Cons: Everything thereafter more

Great custom sofa 10/2/2009

I had a great experience researching and building the sofa. The sales people were friendly and knowledgeable and I feel I got exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately the fabric I wanted was on back order, so the sofa has taken over 2 months to build. I'm sure a fabric which is in stock would take considerably less time. Pros: Great customer service and choices Cons: Might take a while to build more

Can't wait to get our new sofa! 8/27/2009

We had been looking for a new sofa and chair for a looooong time and could not find something to suit our taste. My husband saw an ad for The Sofa Company on the LA Times and we say ... let's check it out. We liked it that they were niche ... focused on what we were looking for so we knew they would have a lot to choose from. OMG, did they? Kara, our consultant was great at explaining how everything work .. how you can mix and match something you like from one sofa or another and turn it into your creation. Thanks for being so patient with us many choices we had to take our time. The show room is great and this location was such easy access... We really loved our whole experience. Our new sofa is being delivered tomorrow ... we can hardly wait. I'll post some pictures of our new beauties when they arrived at their new home. Pros: Best Service and Choices Cons: Hard to Choose more

The Sofa Co. in Pasadena, CA 8/25/2009

The Sofa Co.'s factory is in Commerce, CA, which means that purchasing furniture at The Sofa Co. is supporting LA and its inhabitants. Besides the great selection and contemporary styles, that was my main motivation for choosing The Sofa Co. \r \r I was treated with excellent care by The Sofa Co. staff, which was knowledgable about the fabrics and other options. Also, the piece of furniture I ordered was ready on schedule.\r \r I would definitely return to The Sofa Co. for future needs and I highly recommend supporting LA's economy by shopping there. Pros: LA-based company with contemporary style more

Every sofa imaginable. 8/25/2009

We'd been looking for a sofa for years and were getting discouraged with the lack of options at other stores - boring colors and oversized monster furniture. We were able to get exactly what we wanted at the Sofa Company. Customer service was excellent as well, very helpful but not pushy. Pros: Great selection, reasonable prices Cons: None. more

  • In 1998, three college friends started The Sofa Company to finally make the processing of purchasing a sofa fun, fast and simple. Along with the motto "you design it, we build it" came the promise to continue to innovate the selections available and make the process of buying a sofa enjoyable for residents throughout Los Angeles. With showrooms in Pasadena and Santa Monica, and a factory clearance center in Commerce, we now can say quite confidently that we have the largest selection of styles, sizes, fabrics, legs, sofabeds in the city.

1-2-3 Process--In our new, easy 1-2-3 process, you first style it, then cover it and then accessorize it. All made in California.

As you see throughout our site, we are quite proud of the fact that we produce our sofa line in the good ole USA and more specifically, Los Angeles, CA.
