A What a find!! Can't wait to go back. 3/4/2012

We noticed right away as we drove up that this place was the real deal. As it turns out, this roadside restaurant is 100 years old and the owners have maintained it quite nicely. Picture-perfect rustic exteriors with gardens that feature wagon wheels and flower planters made me think of a Hollywood movie set. As we stepped inside, we saw that the care and attention that they had invested outside was evident inside as well. A beautiful rustic cabin interior featuring paneling, wood-burning stove, classic wooden booths, landscape paintings and memorabilia from a bygone era adorned the walls and ceilings of every room of the Ranch House Cafe. The staff was very gracious and attentive from the moment we walked in, even sharing menu recommendations of their favorite selections and that of other diners. The menu featured burgers, homemade pies, sandwiches and even a page of options from their Espresso Bar. Wow! We were surprised by that -- an Espresso Bar in this rustic setting. Genius, though, considering all of the international tourists going to and from Yosemite, Mono Lake, Mammoth, Mt. Whitney, Bishop and Lone Pine. We ordered the Ranch House Burger - two beef patties side by side on a long french roll complete with salsa, plus all of the trimmings (lettuce, tomato and 5-6 slices of a really good pickle) and medium-cut fries on the side -- and the Avocado Burger with Swiss cheese and easily half (or more!) of an avocado sliced and artfully fanned out on the burger, plus all of the trimmings and the fries. And, although at least one of us had our eyes on the long list of homemade pies on the specials board, we were too stuffed to have dessert after the burgers and fries. Next time, though.. Overall, our experience was great and we appreciate the authenticity and good food at this roadside cafe. A+ more

Pretty bad food 2/20/2007

Ive been here twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast. The food was nearly frozen, was dry and bland. Their gravy is pretty insipid. Hot chocolate was made with lukewarm water. For a fairly unpleasant meal, the prices were far too high. Everything tasted as if it had been left out in the sun to lose its flavour. Service was bad as well: slow, unattentive and rude. The one good thing about this restaurant are the desserts. Pros: Great desserts Cons: Anything else is pretty awful more
