Best

Radio Room, thank you so much for having gluten free options that are on the menu so I don't have to drive the server and kitchen mad with my questions. Excellent wings and tacos ...

Worst

The food was just ok. The service was awful. I'll try it one more time and then that's it. Pros: Burger was good Cons: noisy and bad wait staff

Radio Room, thank you so much for 12/29/2011

BAD SVC, PRETTY GOOD FOOD 9/7/2010

So I have been here 3 times, twice for brunch/lunch and the first time was for happy hour. The food is pretty good and the prices are decent, they even have a good selection. However, EVERY TIME I GO the service sucks! Not sure what is going on or if they are understaffed but the service is never good. Slow w/the food and slow w/the service. I asked for something after we got our food and since it never came I just got up and got it myself. more

not so good lads! 7/18/2010

I've never written a review but feel I need to after this experience. Dirty wine glass. The last persons prints/crust. wobbly table. no biggie. I ordered a beet salad. Cold, bland, boring. plus a whole lotta horseradish I wasn't expecting. I took a bite, thought it was goat cheese. Nope. Mouth full of horseradish. Chicken, so dry I thought I was being picky so I tested it on my husband. (He'll eat anything) He was chewing for a couple of minutes and laughing. Anyway, maybe their cocktails are good. But the food is not worth it. Pros: nice patio Cons: strangest tasting food. more

Great Disappointment 4/4/2010

We always enjoy taking our daughter out for dinner when we come to Portland. Not this time! Cons: Cold Food, Poor Service more

Nifty Spot with Great Patio! 3/26/2010

This bar/restaurant used to be a gas station and the owners have done a great job converting it. The decor is fun and campy and the view from the upper patio is beautiful. I watched the sun set while drinking a martini up there and I was one happy camper! The Radio Room is also a center for the general creative culture that is establishing itself on Alberta. Last summer I met Wayne Coin of the Flaming Lips there! Check out their Sunday brunch! Oh, and I have never received bad service there either! more

Great Addition to Alberta 9/29/2009

As a neighborhood resident and regular at the Bye and Bye next door, I was reluctant at first to check out the Radio Room. I usually like to wait a year or so until a place has been broken in before I give it a try, and the radio room still looked a bit new. Well a few months ago, I went to the B&B to discover to my horror that they were closed for maintenance or something like that. Needing a drink more than ever, I decided to check out the RR. I am glad I did. It is fairly large space but divided up into some smaller spaces...a retro style lounge, a dining room, and two big patios. There were a few families in the dining room and the lounge was full with fairly diverse crowd of late 20's to early 40s. I headed out to the patios. On the lower patio they have picnic tables and a nice fire pit. There was some sort of portland bike group meeting down there, so I went upstairs to the rooftop deck to enjoy the sun and a cocktail (They also allow smoking up there!). I had one of their ward 8's and an upper deck lemonaid. Both were quite good and perfect for a hot day. Was also glad to see they have victory pilsner on tap. I caught the end of their happy hour and decided to get a burger, calimari and the polenta cakes. All were excellent and between $3 and $5 bucks each. They also have hh beer/booze deals and discounted beer/drinks all night mon - wed nights. oh yeah, my server was very friendly and cute...which never hurts. It is great to have the bye and bye, grilled cheese grill, and now the radio room all three in a row on lower Alberta. I may never go home again.... Pros: Excellent food at budget price Cons: Need more Belgian beers more

Worst HH in PDX 4/29/2009

I recently went to Radio Room to try their HH. It was awful. We had four items and every one of them was bad. To make matters worse, when we told the server the wings were dry they charged us for a side of sauce. The wings are served with dry bread as an accompaniment instead of a vegetable with no sauce. I guess charging for the sauce is a way to rake in a few extra dollars. The decor is a mess of fifties diner, sixties lighting and nineties concrete. I had high hopes for this place as I watched it being built. Too bad, it could be something great. Pros: Nice outdoor patio Cons: Bad food more

really lame attitude at bar 4/24/2009

recently went to rr for happy hour & got attitude from the manager of all people behind the bar. I'm a neighbor who lives on their block & hoped ot have it be a friendly spot that we could frquent, but when I went into the bar to have a few beers with a few friends the staff was really rude and unprofessional. the really need to consider how they come off when the economy is low and they are serving. Pros: location Cons: little effort to be accomodating more

I want to go back! 2/16/2009

I came to the Radio Room to meet with some friends recently and I was very impressed. Bottom line, A VERY COOL RESTAURANT!!!!!!!!! more

Still Very New And It Shows... 12/14/2008

I'll give them a break because they've only been open for a few months. I've been about 5 times now and will probably be back, but they do need to make some changes. First off, the drinks are too expensive. The bar atmosphere is casual and nice, the bartenders friendly, wait staff is also nice when the they actually notice you and finally get to your table. Last time I was there, the cooks were being obnoxious, joking around and generally making a spectacle of themselves, which is another good reason for a closed kitchen. Pros: Crab Cakes Cons: Hamburgers, obnoxious kitchen staff more

Wonderful ambience, great service, good food. 10/17/2008

My date suggested Radio Room for dinner. He sure scored points for doing so! The atmosphere was fabulous, not cold or sterile at all. Our server was quick and very attentive. The food came quickly and was very, very good. I had the Ahi, which was perfectly rare with a yummy horseradish sauce accompanied by crisp green beans and a cheesy and lovely au gratin potatoe dish. My date ahd the steak and was very pleased with how tender it was. The prices are reasonable. We had beer, so I can't speak to the drinks, but I will try that part the next time I go there, which is a certainty. Pros: Atmosphere, ambience, service food. Cons: Nothing. more

Great Staff, Food and MUSIC 10/10/2008

Our little guy is 19 months old. When we go out to dinner, we are looking for a place where he is welcome and where the food is better than we could make at home. Radio Room definitely fits the bill. The staff was really nice. They took time with us to chat and were really playful with our son. We were really happy with the variety on the menu and felt that the pricing was very reasonable. (We each had two drinks and dinner + kid's dinner for under $40) more

A great addition to the Alberta neighborhood! 10/6/2008

I've been to Radio Room several times now for drinks and appetizers and have not experienced ""greasy"" nor ""cold"" food (Except for the salad, which, I believe, was meant to be cold-- The homemade Russian dressing is awesome, by the way). It is true the cocktail menu is extensive-- Someone put some thought into these, and each that I've tried has been quite tasty, including interesting takes on old favorites. The prices aren't dirt cheap (it's true), but these are ""hand-crafted"" drinks with fresh juices and premium liquors. Who's complaining about such quality for a decent price (especially when there are still well drinks)? A very eclectic offering of obscure beers on tap and a limited number of wines round out the beverages. The building? Well, it used to be a gas station 50 years ago and was most recently a garage, but you wouldn't guess that now. New construction and the addition of two patios (one is upstairs, covered, and has outdoor heat-- nice views up Alberta-- and the other is downstairs around a fire pit) makes for a moderately funky place. Interesting art, comfortable booths, and non-stop projected movies in the bar also help set Radio Room apart from other Alberta joints. If anything, this is a GREAT addition to the neighborhood, because it is so totally different than anything else Alberta has to offer. I welcome the change (thanks!). For example, there is a real full-sized kitchen with real cooks cooking up real homemade food down to the dipping sauces and salad dressing, which I might have said is really great. The group we were with ordered quite a number of appetizers, and everyone ended up satisfied. The happy hour prices (on appetizers only) are very good, so ordering a variety makes for a reasonably-priced meal. I have not had an entree, but many of them looked really good (I was eying a neighbor's steak and my wife zeroed in on the vegetarian offerings). Maybe a full dinner happens next time-- This place is worth checking out. Pros: really good food and awesome drinks Cons: the bar and patios are happening, the dining room is quiet more

A great place to be with friends 10/6/2008

I've been to Radio Room a few times since it opened. If you're looking for a cool atmosphere with a great drinks menu, plus good food at a reasonable price....here's the place. It is the kind of place to get together with friends, hang out, have drinks and munch your way through the evening. RR has been quite busy each time we were there, but we always found a table. Everything is casual here -- so don't expect white gloved staff flicking away every crumb you drop. Go and RELAX, enjoy your friends, don't worry about the calories (or order a salad and soup if you must worry -- but you'll be missing out on some excellant mac n' cheese and a top cabin burger). Pros: Atmosphere, hamburgers, drinks, value Cons: Service can be a little slow -- enjoy your drink more

An excellent joint to hang out in. 10/6/2008

I've been to the Radio Room roughly a dozen times, and had a great time each time I was there. The atmosphere has been uplifting and it seemed almost crowded each time I was there, without being too crowded, an issue I have with a couple of other favorite stomping grounds around town. I've enjoyed the food as well, usually steak and crab cakes, with a stiff gin & tonic to go with it. I've also enjoyed the meatloaf, and hamburgers at different times. The layout is unique, and though a previous reviewer found it too different for their liking, I like the separation of space while also remaining open throughout (you can feel your in an intimate section anywhere, while also never missing a friend coming through, or checking out how other folks are doing). While I go there for food and drinks, or just passing through, the bottom line and test of any good joint is whether there are plenty of customers and are they having a good time. So far this place is in no short supply of both of those qualities. Pros: Clientele; Drinks ; Atmosphere; Steak and crab cakes Cons: Rain threatening the excellent outdoor seating. more

Best place to acknowledge that you are part of the automaton... 9/27/2008

The food is bland and at least two dollars more than it should be (On most items). The drinks are over priced. The ambiance is sterile. The building is preposterous. These people, who bullied their way with shallow dreams and lots of money into an art scene that they don't understand have come way after their time with a boring restaurant that may as well have been a yacht named the U.S. Beaverton...too bad this is what the future of Alberta looks like. The service is as plastic and one-dimensional as it tries not to be. Remember when you were a kid and your parents tried to act ""cool"" in front of your friends, only to embarrass you and make you wish you were dead? If you did go through that awkward stage, I bet your mom's name was Radio and your dad's name was Room! Don't go there unless you're sick of eating at Chili's. Pros: Beats Sizzler. Cons: Beats Sizzler. more

super greasy food 9/25/2008

the place looks great and they have a LARGE drink menu but the food was terrible.....way too fatty and cold. also, the cooks were very dirty looking and kept walking thru the dining room! we won't go back Pros: the place looks great Cons: greasy food more
