Great Guac, Ok Margaritas, Bad Food 6/16/2011

I was not a fan of Pueblo (it just didn't live up to all the hype). But, the guacamole was one shining star in the otherwise dim meal. Too long a wait 6/20/2010

Went in evening and was seated immediately. Waitress said she would be there soon - finally came back and took drink and dinner orders. Drinks arrive 10 minutes later only 2 of 3. Waited another 10 minutes for third. We waited an hour and fifteen minutes for dinner and was being told the kitchen was behind and only a few minutes more. We finally walked out. I can't tell you if the food was good or not but had plenty of chips and salsa. Never saw a manager, only waitress every once in a while just to come by to say sorry. Pros: Good drinks Cons: Poor service more

WHAT HAPPENED????? 4/30/2010

This was our second visit and WOW, WHAT A Difference. THe pinto bean soup we had this time had NO FLAVOR. the spices were lacking. Salt and pepper helped a bit... The beef fajitas were tough and also without seasoning. The margaritas were watery and had no lime flavor or tequila. My wife never received the second beer she ordered. Cons: Terrible Dinner more

My absolute fav mexican 4/21/2009

my absolute fav mexican resturant in STL! Love that it's in my neighborhood - we always try to walk there bc the bartender makes great/strong margharitas. family friendly. Service can be spotty but they've expanded the resturant with an outdoor patio and more room indoors so that's been helping. great to eat in or carry out (they're on my speed dial). you've never had Pros: great food - good prices Cons: service more

There is no better Mexican in St. Louis 6/10/2008

My in-laws introduced us to this places a few years ago, and we?ve been hooked ever since. When it was smaller, there were sometimes long waits on weekends. However, they?ve since expanded the dining room twice, and I can?t recall waiting more than 5 min to be seated no matter what day of the week or time of the evening we?ve visited for at least two years. Pros: Great service, fabulous fresh food & margaritas Cons: Limited parking next to restaurant, but plenty on streets of nearby neighborhoods more

A Great find 4/7/2008

Having recently moved here from LA, I have longed for good Mexican food. I would say now that I have found it. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff very friendly and the food top notch. I am amazed as some of the posts have talked about rude service. I disagree...my experience was quite the contrary. We experienced very friendly and attentive waiters. The chips and salsa are amazing. They present 3 different salsas that are fresh and very tasty. I ordered the combo plate and everything was fresh, and served hot. The sopapilla desert was amazing with an incredible raspberry sauce on top of a cinammon sopapilla topped with fresh mango, blueberries and ice cream. The margaritas are great too. I highly suggest this place. I am looking forward to going again and sitting on the outdoor patio. more

Avoid period 3/5/2008

We went there having heard great reviews and despised this place. Slow service. Terrible food. It was definately not Mexican. It was not Tex Mex. It was someone's convoluted idea of Mexican. The WORST Mexican place in Saint Louis. Cons: Everything more

Not good! 10/17/2007

Very overpriced! Also we waited over 45 minutes to get our food and it was horrible! The service was ok at best. The food was just plain, small portions, and just not good. I love mexican food, but this place was bad! We came from Chesterfield to eat there because it was so recommended...should have went to Taco Bell! Cons: Parking is horrible more

Yikes! Rapidly rolling downhill. 10/11/2007

We were very impressed the first couple of times we came to Pueblo Solis. Then, not so much. We just went today, and it was a nightmare. Our waiter, Kevin, was inexplicably rude. Even though there were hardly any other tables, we felt very rushed. He also seemed determined to convince us to order much more food than we wanted, and wouldn't leave us alone long enough to enjoy our meal. Speaking of the meal, the food quality has deteriorated. The formerly delicious sopes were rock hard, the longhorn cheese was rubbery, the rice was mush. Such a shame! We used to really love this place. I hope they get it back together; until then, we will go elsewhere. more

Wrong Atmosphere, Bad Service, & High Prices 7/20/2007

I am a native Texan and a Mexican-American, so I have experienced great Mexican food. I had heard a lot of good things about this place, so my wife and I decided to try it out. The first thing I noticed was the dimmed lighting. Not your typical atmosphere. Mexican food can make one a bit drowsy, so the lack of lighting did not help the situation. Once we got seated, the waitor was quite rude. He was trying to rush us though everything and was critical to the changes that I made which were not much. For example, I am not a big fan of Chihuahua cheese, so I told him that I did not like it. He came back with, ""I would not recommend that choice."" He isn't the one eating the food. Once we got the food, I actually thought it was pretty good. I did not, however, care for the rice. It was extremely overcooked, mushy, and very bland. The last thing I could not understand, it how expensive the food was compared to typical Mexican food. The traditional type dishes were about $9-10 when they should be priced about $6-7. One item on the menu in particular was way over priced. I could not believe that someone would have enough courage to charge over $9 for a bowl of Menudo. It is probably made with the cheapest ingrediants of anything on the menu and should have been appropriately priced around $5. I will have to think long and hard before I would make a return visit. more

Frustrating From Start To Finish 4/25/2007

It took my friends and I (seven of us) upwards of 45 minutes to be seated. We were initially told that it would be only 20 minutes for a table, and after 20 minutes, we were told (many times) that it would only be a ""few more minutes."" So we waited...crammed into the small hallway/entryway while those around us jockeyed for position. more

Best Place Ever! 4/20/2007

I love this place! Never had a bad experience. Great Margaritas, guacamole and salsa. I go at least twice a month! Pros: Everything. Cons: It is a little small, but I still love it! more

Twisted Mexican 11/21/2006

Just happened to come upon this place and have loved it ever since. The service is amazing from small talk to suggestions and presentation to completion. The Margaritas are a must try. Chips and selection of salsas were delicious. The main meal is prepared in a unique style different from most other mexican restaurant which is a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is quaint. We tried the mango cheesecake. It looked wonderful but didn't go with mexican. Maybe just another margarita next time. Our waiter was wonderful and spent quality time with us in helping us make our choices and making sure there our dinner experience was wonderful.. I think his name was Kevin. Pros: Good food and service, nice atmosphere, wonderful experience, good price Cons: not a lot of space, eat chips and dinner & skip on the dessert more

Real Deal 10/26/2006

I am shocked by some of the other posters comments. If you want real Mexican food prepared fresy daily this is the place. If you like Casa and Chevys stay away, you will not be ready for the spicyness and real taste this place provides. Usually busy and does have a small dining room, but that adds to the atmosphere. The food is unbelivable, the salsa change degrees of spicyness each time, which speaks to the freshness of the food. If you are looking for an experience, not a dash and dine, this is the place. I go at least once a month, when I get that craving. more

Unique Mexican - very popular 9/4/2006

Pueblo Solis has become one of the more popular destinations for Mexican food lovers in St. Louis. I like the fact that the menu is not the ""cookie cutter"" variety - with recipes attributed to the owner's mom (so he says). The first few times I found their beans and rice to be truly extraordinary, then the las couple of visits, they had changed to just normal. The owner says they vary depending on who cooks them!?! Tacos were also disappointing, but some of the menu specialties were excellent. Guacamole has always been outstanding. Watch out for the hot sauce - no mild option. Count on a big crowd and not so big waiting area. One time I swore they forgot us, and I've heard horror stories from others. Pros: specialty items Cons: crowded more

Best Mexican Food in St. Louis 8/19/2006

We moved here in 2004 from San Antonio, Texas and this is the BEST Mexican food we have ever eaten. Yes, there can be a wait so, if you are in a hurry pick an odd time - say 5pm mid week - or just enjoy the atmosphere and wait. The food is spicy (great-because who eats Mexican food for blah) and the staff is friendly. So, sit back, relax and be prepared to have a great authentic Mexican meal. more

Great margaritas & chips & salsa 8/12/2006

The food was good, my Margarita was very good, chips & salsa ware also very good. That is very important because the food took an hour. The good news is that I had already heard that, so I was prepared & enjoyed my evening. Pros: If you are not in a hurry this is a great place Cons: If you are in a hurry not such a great choice more

Very Over Rated!!! 6/11/2006

We didn't mind having to drive awhile to find a parking spot. We didn't mind that when we put our name on the list we were told it was a 30 minute wait. We hung out in the very small bar area and ordered a drink. After seeing people that came in after us get seated and realizing we've been waiting for over 30 minutes we asked a waitress how much longer. She was going to go check - after seeing her seat more new comers - we asked her again. At that point she had an attitude with us and came back with menus and said ""did you want a seat"" - we told her no and that we would like to speak to the manager - after about another 30 minutes he comes out. We'll never go back. It's very small, horrible service, over rated, and there are tons of other good places to go. more
