I agree with the other reviews. This place is not less expensive than other stores. Very few items are a bargain. T shirts, some produce, that is about it. Big Lots is cheaper...

Used to be great, but not so much anymore... 11/21/2010

If there are "5 star" ratings, they must be ringers, lol. Prospector used to be a fun place to "dig" for bargains -- but something changed a year or two ago and now they are on par with a dingy, dirty dollar store...with banged up merchandise full of scratches and dings. The prices on furniture are outrageous and sorry, but the food is almost always outdated and stale. The VCR we bought stopped working within a month. Oh, and the staff is NOT so helpful, either. We've never had a real run-in, but they act like we are in the way when we are in store. Talk across customers to one another like you aren't in the room. The owner or manager guy can be downright rude. So, all-in-all, this is a place to skip rather than patronize! more

Some of these reviews are obvious employee trolls. A guest with 5 star review??? Why does Judy's Book even allow guest reviews? more

Great customer service 10/14/2009

You have to hunt for the bargain and also inspect the product but they have great customer service. It is a small store so getting help is not a problem. They have real people working there who are very friendly. They have my support!!! more

dont waste your time 6/30/2009

Bargains 1/29/2009

If you know prices there are lots of bargains here. Some foods have expired dates but I've only had one that wasn't edible over the years. The only bad thing is sometimes I really like a brand I've never seen before - but I never find it again. They carry some Costco returns. I won't name my favorite bargain here, but I would suggest you take the time to look at everything available before leaving the store. more

Avoid The Food and Furniture 2/28/2006

I went there on my lunch break thinking i'd pick up a cheap bite to eat... biggest mistake in food shopping i've ever made. I was in a bit of a hurry and didn't pay attention to any expiration dates. Everything I bought was PAST the EXPIRATION DATE except a small bottle of chocolate milk. Everything they were selling was no-name brands, which I didn't mind at first because I figured I'm only spending a couple dollars. The pretzels I bought were stale and nasty tasting, the candy bars I bought were stale as well. Everything except the chocolate milk I bought I threw out (I suspect that was only good because it probably came in that day). I went upstairs to check out their furniture (being a bit curious as I work in a furniture store) but was sorely disappointed. I've seen a lot of comparable new furniture that is less expensive - as with most places that liquidate furniture they don't really discount it they just overprice it to take a higher mark-down which puts it back at regular retail pricing (Stupid Prices does the same thing). Most of their clothing looked and smelled like they just pulled it out of my grandmother's wardrobe. The only positive thing I have to say and would consider going back to them for is their hardware department. If you want some good deals on hammers, flashlights, tie-down straps, etc. then they are worth a stop. For anything else don't waste your time! more

Worth an occasional stop 9/16/2005

Although they have moved from Home-Store liquidation (my favorite) they now have good deals on Food liquidations. They unfortunately have also moved to cheap dollar-store items in a lot of cases (for $1.50 to $1.99), so be careful. I think they sit on product too long without a sale. Their checkers sometimes goof, so watch the items as they're punched in. Go upstairs for furniture and cabinets and such...If I were a contractor or decorator I might see the value in these, but I don't. more
