One of the places you don't miss when you are in the 'Burgh. 4/8/2006

I graduated from Pitt in 1994, and I go back one of the first places I hit is Primanti Brothers. I usually hit the one write off of Pitt's campus, but there a few others spread around Pittsburgh. The basic premise is the same for all of the sandwiches. You get the meat, and then they throw some coleslaw and fries on top. My usual is the egg and cheese, but they have everything from sardines to steak. I'm not sure about the other locations, but this ones sells beer. As a matter of fact, on the menu the steak and cheese is listed as the #2 best seller. The #1 best seller is beer! more

Who doesn't like french fries and cole slaw on a sandwich 3/19/2006

Ok so I don't really like cole slaw on my sandwiches, but Primanti Bros still makes a good sandwich. I have visited several of the locations, and while the original Primanti Bros is the best, the other locations are pretty close. Anyone who visits Pittsburgh should at least try a sandwich with cole slaw and french fries once, and it should be from Primanti Bros. more

Nothing like fries and slaw on your sandwich! 2/2/2006

Every time I visit my hometown of Pittsburgh, I have to visit Primanti's. This restaurant, conveniently located near the University of Pittsburgh campus in Oakland, is close to but not the same as the original in the Strip. There's a nice lofted seating area, which gives a little more table room. I've noticed that it's quite popular around lunchtime and dinner time with the locals, and late into the evening with the college crowd. If you can't make it to the Strip, this will do; otherwise, save your appetite for the real deal. more

interesting food 9/21/2005

Primani Bros is a Pittsburgh institution. This restaurant was started to serve minors during the days of the mills. The workers had to be able to eat with one hand and fast; because of this Primanti’s started putting everything into their sandwiches including French fries. This is a very unique dining experience, not for everyone though. more

Great Place 8/10/2005

If you come to pittsburgh, you must hit up primanti's. This pittsburgh establishment has some of the best sandwiches in the city. Not many options for the vegetarians. My only complaint is that the fries are often soggy and the food is occasionally cold. more

A Traitor's Tale: A Pittsburgher unimpressed with Primanti's 8/10/2005

Primanti Bro's is probably one of the most popular restaurants in Pittsburgh. Their claim to fame is that they put french fries and cole slaw right on your sandwich. I suppose that makes me a traitor because I don't particularly like it. Neither the fries nor the cole slaw are very good. The sandwiches I've gotten there were just okay. For a good sandwich, I'd recommend Uncle Sam's subs or Jimmy John's over Primanti Bros. more
