Expensive & Deceitful 3/1/2011

Used this firm for 2 years. Each year they gave me an estimate of what my bil would be then overshot it by 300% to 600%. I never recieved a call telling me we were exceding their estimate nor did they ever make even 1 suggestion that might save me money on my tax burden! I would not recommend ths firm to anyone!!! more

Not a strong firm, especially for small/mid-sized companies 1/22/2009

I was referred to Powell Ebert & Smolik PC and met with one of their senior members for consultation on both my corporate and personal taxes. From my interaction with them on a number of items I was extremely disappointed in their lack of attention to details and responsiveness to a client\r \r Our initial informational meetings went well and I decided to move forward, then the issues started. Our first ""real"" meeting for specific planning of my corporate taxes lasted an hour; with around 10 minutes focused on my business. No recommendations were made by the gentleman I met with and it came down to him asking ""what do you want to do"". While I understand that all decisions are ultimately mine, it was very disappointing not to hear any suggestions even after a number of questions.\r \r Then tax time came around. My business and personal information, which was complete and extremely organized, was delivered at the beginning of February. After a multitude of calls/emails (that were rarely answered) my returns were completed around 7-8 weeks later. Additionally, the amount I was charged was approximately 30% higher then quoted.\r \r Lastly, due to the organizational structure of my business I was unsure about a ""franchise tax"" notice sent by the state. I spent over seven weeks trying to get in touch with the gentleman, who responded once saying he'd get back with me, but I never heard another word. His delay caused my company to be delinquent. \r \r While I understand work for them gets very busy around tax time there is still a minimum level of professionalism and follow up required if you are to be considered a professional firm. I would imagine that, due to my company?s smaller size, I became a non-priority for their company. \r \r Bottom line: if you are a small-to-mid sized company I would never use this firm. They seem to be more focused on large accounts and do not have (or want) to provide the attention to organizations that won?t produce as much revenue.\r Cons: Non responsive more
