Potomac Mills Mall is fun on Black Friday... 11/14/2006

Get there early because Potomac Mills Mall is a happening place on Black Friday! I went there two years ago and the place was jammed at 6 AM. I had so much fun though going around to all the early bird specials in all the stores. Go to customer service first because they will hand out a coupon book to the early arrivers! more

Great deals at what price 3/30/2006

This mall is huge, and has tons of stores, but is always very crowded. You also run into a lot more "mall-rat" teenagers just hanging out at Potomac Mills than at other malls in the area. There is a lot of parking, but many of the lots are almost always full, especially near the new movie theaters. On weekends, it's nearly impossible to get any shopping done because of the hoardes of people. It doesn't help that the aisles are cluttered with kiosks manned by pushy salespeople. The mall was recently remodelled, and the new decorations are intented to feel whimsical and fun, but are really too sparse to take away the 80's boxy feel. I have been to other malls owned by the Mills Corporation, and it is quite apparent that a lot more resources went into those malls than to Potomac MIlls. It's also a bit peevish that they advertise it as an outlet mall when a lot of the stores are not actually outlets. If you go there expecting to find last-season's designer merchandise and deeply-discounted factory seconds, be prepared to be disappointed more often than not. While some of the stores are genuinely outlets or have racks in the back for discounts (especially the larger anchor stores), many of the smaller shops are full-priced, expensive boutiques. Bottom line is that there are some very good deals to be had here, but you have to fight through all of the mayhem and really look to find them. There are many other malls in the area that offer a more pleasant shopping experience, and unless you are seeking an item at a specific store where you know it will be discounted, you probably won't be saving as much money as the mall owners would like you to think you are. more

Don't like Potomac Mills 3/27/2006

After how many years, they finally decided to remodel. The good thing about that is the chairs in the middle are more comfortable, but this mall is definitely not one to write home about. It used to be an outlet mall with outlet prices, but those stores are few and far between. Yes, you still have Nordstrom Rack and Gap with lower prices, but the majority are not outlet priced. Friday and Saturday nights find kids hanging out everywhere with the token security guard trying to keep order. Parking on weekends and holidays is non-existent. It doesn't surprise me that locals don't frequent the place. more

Good Outlet 3/17/2006

A day at Potomac Mills can yield some wonderful finds, however, I feel that to really get and find the best deals it helps to go frequently. This way you are there to watch when the shops roll over their merchandise and you will have the best options. They have added some new stores, like Gymboree, that have really helped add to the good stores already there. I wouold agree with another reviewer that the crowds can be overwhelming. i would suggest getting there early when they open rather than later as there will be less people and you can peruse through the stores better. more

Great buys, annoying crowds 2/3/2006

There are terrific buys to be had here...especially at Nordstrom Rack, the Gap Outlet, Ikea, Leggs/Hanes/Bali and a fairly large discount bookstore that includes best sellers, calendars, specialty books and, of course, remainders. Bargain shoppers could easily spend a whole day here. And if you really are that much into shopping, there are some OK - not luxury - but OK restaurants and hotels in the surrounding area. The only drawback to Potomac Mills, I find, is the crowds. You can't walk more than a few feet without someone jostling into you, and teen-agers like to come here to hang out. For me, it's annoying, but worth it because I love the stores....just something to consider. Parking is plentiful, but always crowded, and you'll have to drive -- there's no metro nearby. A great place if you enjoy shopping. more
