I usually airbrush at the Portofino on Columbus Avenue, but I was shopping in the neighborhood and decided to hop in for a quick spray tan. Mimi was my technician and she was friendly and thorough. As usual, I was out the door in 30 minutes looking bronze and beautiful. I would recommend any of the portofinos for spray tanning. This tanning spot is right by my apartment. The later hours are great for squeezing in a sassy tan after a stressful day at work. I am obsessed with the employees there...Christine, Andrew, Brennen...my favs! These kids know how to make me feel like a million bucks even when i walk out looking like a sweat sock. I usually stick with the Matrix bed and the silver bullet, but every now and then i switch it up with a stand-up. I just gotta give a shot out to the friendly service and awesome tanning at this place!! Student Pack got me TAAANN! 7/18/2009

I waited until last minute to get tan for my friends wedding. i had one week to tan and bought the 10 pt student pack for $79. I came everyday and by Saturday, looked phenom!! I was soo happy with my tan and it really made me feel beautiful in my bridesmaid dress. I'll be back for more tanning action for sure. Tanning? yesss tanning. i do it. i love it. and until we have weather like the west coast i will come to Portofino every now and then to look tan and HOT! seriously. I have been going there for years. I thought they were pricey at first so I shopped around for a bit trying other places in the hood, but ended up coming back to Portofino. They always have amazing sales during the summer so I splurge, get a fatty package and it lasts me for a year. I see celebs every now and then (which admittedly is fun) and I always enjoy chatting it up with the fun people that work there. I do wish they were open longer though. Sometimes after a long work day I could just go for a relaxing tanning session at midnight. Pros: experienced friendly staff, selection of machines Cons: not open 24 hours more

I love the spray tan deal there. I paid $99 for 10 spray tans--i think that is the best deal I have seen. the machine is great, quick, and i leave with a fabulous beachy tan. i haven't tried the sprays where someone actually sprays you (that will be my next step). but i do know--the auto bronzing one is sweet! Yeah, I tan. yeah, I'm a dude, and YEA i'm black. I admit it. But with this awful weather, you can't blame me for doing what I can to look dark and beautiful. I don't normally write these things, but Terry and his peeps there are GREAT. He said if I really do like the place, to give them a shot out online. So here I am, admitting that I tan and Portofino, and I love it. I only do the basic strong stand-up, i buy a package that costs me about $120 and it lasts me for 6 months or so I slather up with some fancy accelerator lotion (tho I don't know if I neeed to spend as much as I did on it) and voila! I am tanned and glowing. I have sent friends there and I will continue to RAVE about you guys at Portofino! Pros: strong strong machines Cons: can't use my tans at the LA portofino more

CHEAP and good tanning! 5/24/2009

I went to another salon in the village and it was dirty and bad. Portofino Sun Salon is sooo much better AND get this, its cheaper???I think they lowered their prices or something. Owner is Cool and Keep the Place Updated 5/10/2009

I went into this place the other day and got a chance to actually meet the owner. This guy was really cool, no attitude at all. We talked about tanning (I used to work at a place when I was in college), and he showed me some of the new equipment that has come out since I was in the business. At the end of the conversation, he gave me a tan on the house. Cool guy. Just wanted to give his company a shout out. Pros: New Stuff all the time, beds that don't burn you more

I am so over this rainy lame weather in NYC. OVER IT! soooo--I fake and bake to get through until the sun shows it's pretty little face. Portofino has been tanning my booty for a couple of months now and I am oh so grateful. i tan in ""michael kors bed"" (apparently it's his fav) and keep up my tan. great for keeping your tan 5/5/2009

I got back from vacation and wanted to keep up my tan. BUT i didn't want to look orange or burn. Portofino set me up with a no-burning bed that makes me look and feel gorgeous! I only go every other week and I still get complements on my tan. Tanning here in the city has come a LOOOONG way from my coffin-like beds in Ohio. The prices per session are higher than back home, but my goodness--it is worth it- i don't have to come nearly as much, the tan lasts longer and it never burns. If you ask for a deal at this place, they will give it to you! The prices they list on their brochure are decent - but they will work with you to get the prices even lower! I totally appreciate that, being a student and all. I got 10 tans for $79. I can definitely afford a tan that is less than $8 right??? Good place to go if you're on a budget. Pros: Great deals. This is the greatest place!!!! 5/1/2009

Portofino is number 1 in my book. The staff is absolutely gorgeous! They are So friendly, upbeat, helpful, and make my day better every time I tan. The equipment is phenomenal. I could see a dramatic color difference after one visit! Amazing! No other place I have been to in the city can compare. I discovered Portofino when I tried the salon across the street from them called Future Tans and frankly I will never return. It smelled like spoiled eggs. Clearly they don't clean or someone doesn't wash. I will NOT return to that place. I'm a grad student at NYU and found this place nearby my apt in the village. I'm pretty low on cash and was about to give up my tanning-fix when they just added the best student deal I've seen yet. I'm tanning right now getting 10 tans for 80 bucks. I use their stand-up and lower end beds to get more tans. Every now and then I use a crazy intense bronzing bed, but I am quite happy with my results from the stand-ups. I like that they provide eye wear, towels and little candies. My only complaint is that they are only open until 10pm or so. Sometimes to break up a study session I crave a tan and wish they were open 24 hours. Do they even have those in the city?? Oh, and their package system confuses me too. Otherwise--two thumbs up!! Pros: nice staff, strong machines, student specials Cons: point system is confusing more

Helpful staff 4/23/2009

I'm just thankful, I guess. The nice girl at Portofino took care of me - and helped tan me for the most important day of my life so far - my wedding! Thanks to Christine, I looked golden and glowing. She went out of her way to make me feel confident and collected in the weeks up to my wedding. Of all the errands you don't feel like running in those stressful weeks, tanning became one of the ones I looked forward to! Thanks Portofino, if you read these! dingy looking and got no color 4/21/2009

I have always tanned at a high end tanning salons and stopped in this place cause i thought it would be nice, i just needed a quick tan since i was in that neighborhood. when i first stepped in the salon, the attendant sounded like she was on a personal call and had me wait in the seating area until she was done. when i finally was helped I asked for the strongest bed, the machine that she put in gave me color for 5 min, really disappointing, i spent $40 for nothing. To top it off the floor was filthy and the top of the bed had lotion smudges and it wasnt from me. Cons: dirty, no color, waste of money more

Goodness that man is hot! He is always so so tan, soo soo gorgeous, and A SWEETHEART! This boy is reason enough to tan everyday. I honestly tan even when my skin is golden golden golden just to chat with Mr. Portofino. There are a couple of us at my gym that are obsessed, but I am sure everyone who walks in the door knows who I am talking about. Selection is Out a this World! 4/16/2009

This place has beds I have never seen before! They have one of everything - giving you so many choices. I always trust their recommendation, because I would have no idea which one to pick! Some of them look like spaceships! I love it, kind of exciting. I hated my old place cuz only ONE machine worked for me there...here, plenty of different machines (some even are standing up!) get me tan. They are open late, which seems weird to me for a tanning salon, but it must be because they do such good business! This place reallly gets what Village people like myself want. They know how to get the vibe going and get the tan dark. Its not the type of place that will be all snooty or anything. Tan-ies reside at Portofino VILLAGGGE 3/25/2009

This tanning salon actually does what it says it will - makes you tan without burning you. The place across the street made me all red and when I complained, the girl at the desk acted like ""I don't know......"" - like it was my fault! This place actually gave me some advice and got me using a lotion. I guess the lotion is kind of the key. I got brown and not red and I will never go to that other place again.
