Aaaaaaamazing italian food! 3/24/2011

Love Love Love this place! Great portions, Great ambience, grrreeaaat food! I have been coming to this restaurant for years, and it never gets old to me. I heard they are redoing some things at the restaurant, I hope they dont change much, because I truly love what this place has to offer. more

Fresh Seafood! 3/17/2011

Came in to Portofino for dinner while in town on business. This place was great! Since I was dining alone I decided to take a seat at the bar. The bartender was very pleasant and attentive. I was verbally told the specials, and decided to try the tuna special. It was amazing, cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The bartender paired the perfect wine with my dish. I wish a lived closer, because I defiantly would be coming here often. If you live in Philadelphia or you are just visiting, then you really must try this place. more

Great Deal for Lunch! 3/4/2011

A couple co-workers and I came here for lunch the other day. The food was amazing and the servers were quick and friendly. To top it off I was shocked when our bill came and it came out to only $10 per person...Wow! I will be back again for lunch and might even try to bring my husband here for dinner. more

Needs to learn how to run a business... 9/21/2010

I can't give this restaurant less than one star, which is unfortunate, because after the experience my wife and I had, I am SHOCKED that this place received any good reviews to begin with. I don't know if the management has changed recently, or if the service staff were trying to get fired, but no one in this entire place treated us with respect. I wanted to be able to enjoy the Manicotti, but was far too disgusted watching the manager oggle female staff (and customers!) every time he passed through the room. He took our order himself, and made us feel like complete morons for not knowing what we wanted. He would not take his eyes off my wife the entire time (to the point where she wanted to leave). We rushed through our dinner and left. Terrible. I will not be dining here again. more

Special Lunch 5/12/2010

I came here for lunch with group of co-workers. We were recommended to come here by a friend. A week later everyone is still talking about it in the office. The Food was outstanding and great portions, for an excellent price. Although we walked over form our office we were informed that if we come back for dinener we can get discounted parking in the nearby garage. The ambience was beatiful and the Pros: Price, Service, Food, discount parking more

YUM! 1/22/2010

I had read mixed reviews about this place (though most of them were positive) and prior to seeing Wicked, I thought I would check this place out. I was pleasantly surprised. Very friendly staff and the food was fantastic. They also give 20% discounts to ticket holders (games or theater!). I had the Pollo Bolognese, Bruchetta and Beef Carpaccio. Highly recommend all of them! Pros: Great atmosphere, amazing food. Cons: Small wine selection (by the glass.) more

35 years of excellence 5/28/2009

Celebrating 35 years is a remarkable milestone for this pitiful restaurant, as innocent and ignorant dinners must be their sole means of income. The place charges above what it promises to offer. The menu looks like a deli menu. Yet simple wine of 2008 is 10$ a glass. Crab cakes weren't real. They microwave frozen stuff, including mashed potatoes. Grilled stuff is served cold because they were made earlier. Waiters were oblivious and far from sweet or helpful. On Saturday night they can hardly fill up half of their tables. Their life is running out. And, for one, am not surprised. Waste of money, time and mood. Stay away! Pros: location Cons: horrible food, ridiculous interior design, unreasonably pricy more

Amazing food!! 11/12/2008

For many years I have been dining out on weekends and somehow missed this spot. I can?t believe the quality of the food great service and unbeatable price. The location is convenient and parking is discounted. I couldn?t ask for more, this is my new favorite restaurant in town. Pros: Food and Price more

SIMPLY PUT - THE BEST!!! 11/10/2008

I have dined in Center City for many, many years but I have never before felt the need to write a review of any other establishment. If you're looking for quality, comfort, attentive service and the best food in town - IT'S PORTOFINO'S. Sorry that we didn't get to see Ralph (character that he is). Robert is the most graceous maitre'd who took the time to occasionally stop by our table to make sure we were well taken care of. Glen is attentive, polite and a waiter who makes sure that your meal is not just food on the table but a dining experience. The presentation was paced perfectly so that we felt relaxed rather than rushed and the fried calamari and the salmon is to die for. \r \r I could write an epiphany, but simply put, Portofino is the best of the best. Pros: Best food, best service, best ambiance, convenient location, parking more

Yummy! 8/27/2008

My husband and I came here to eat the other night and I couldn?t say better things about this place. The price was very reasonable and the quality of food was top notch. My husband couldn?t stop talking about how good the food was. To top it off we had great service and the restaurant is beautiful. We already made reservations to return. Pros: good food, good service, good price more

Finest Italian Food the City has to offer 8/14/2008

We ate here over the weekend and were very impressed. When I first walked into the restaurant I was impressed by the ambiance, it was beautiful! We were greeted right away and seated promptly. Our server was a charmer and helped make our experience memorable. The specials were described to us and we were even asked if we had any questions, this impressed me because no restaurant server has ever been so polite and patience to ask that. After we ordered our meals and appetizers a wonderful wine recommendation was made to us, we took it and it paired so nicely with our dishes.. We finished with coffee and the homemade tiramisu. I think this may be the best Italian food restaurant that Philadelphia has to offer. I?m looking forward to going back. Pros: discounted parking for the nearby parking deck more

The Atmosphere and Food felt like home. 7/30/2008

This authentic Italian restaurant really gave me a sense of home. I have lived in Philly for a year and have tried many Italian Restaurants. Portofinos is by far my favorite, and the best this city has to offer. It has a convienient location, great staff, and the food is amazing! I also was very pleased with the atmosphere. I plan to come back here many more times. Pros: 20% parking validation for nearby parking deck. more

worst pre-theater meal. 2/7/2008

my family and i were going to a show around the corner and thought we would get a nice italian dinner beforehand. however, we were sadly mistaken. we told them when we walked in that we were seeing a show and had about an hour and a half to go. an hour and half should be more than enough time to get a nice meal (especially in a restaurant that most certainly does a pre- and post-theater crowd), but the owner yelled at us and told us that we could only get pasta because there was no time to get anything else. we had heard good things, so we decided to stay even though the owner was incredibly rude. the food that came out was mediocre and the service was terrible. don't waste your time or your money. Cons: rude staff, mediocre food more

Amazingly Rude Manager 1/15/2008

I have eaten here twice- food is nothing special- typical Italian fare done decent. Then only reason it does well \r is that it is near the theater and gets the pre-theater crowd. I tried booking a large 40+ person party here \r strictly for convenience of location and the owner/ manager was so amazingly rude. I mean repeatedly rude. The first time I asked he said 'cant you see I am busy, come back some other time' - very rude for a simple question, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and tried later to set up a weekend appt with out of town parents and was told to make them come in during the week some time, he doesn't like to set up parties on weekends. Can't see giving my business ever again to someone so rude- and the food is mediocre Pros: Convenience of location Cons: Rude Manager, average food more

horrible experience 4/25/2007

The two of us were seated fairly quicky without a reservation Saturday night. Initial service was pleasant but that was the only good thing about this place. Took a while for the drinks to come--the appertizer even longer (about half hour). ( we are from NYC so we are used to crowded restaurants and sometimes slow and spotty service). Then we waited for the main dishes for an hour until someone came out and told us they ""ran out of the special"". Again they did this after letting us sit there for and hour (after the appetizer was served, almost 2 hours after we sat down). Needless to say, we immediately left. THe people next to us got one the dishes cold and had to be sent back. Some one has got to be fired for running the place like this!! Pros: location for Center City Cons: incredibly BAD service and management more

very friendly staff with good food 2/19/2007

Upon walking in the owner greeted us instantly and sat us immediately. It was relatively empty tonight as it was a Monday night. The environment was quaint and kept very clean. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and informed us of the night's specials. None of which attracted our attention since neither of us eat sea food. We did find a few entrees that enticed us, though. I had the Veal Maggetti without shrimp and my boyfriend had the Pollo Bolognese. We started with Brushcetta which was extremely tasty and had plenty of complimentary bread and olive oil. Our main courses arrived shortly after and we were both very pleased. The entree size wasn't anything to brag about, however both were extremely good. I highly recommend the Veal! After our main entrees we both had Tiramisu which was out of this world! It was extremely light and fluffy. Over all we were pleased with this restaurant and would come back again. The only negative was there is no free refills on the soda. The manager was very friendly and welcoming and our waitress was always there when we needed something. The price for 3 sodas, appetizer, main entrees, and desserts came out to $75 before tip. Pros: a very welcoming staff, the veal was excellant Cons: no free refills in a nice restaurant i think is tacky more

excellent food at reasonable prices 6/27/2006

This is one of Philadelphia's finest Italian Restaurants and it is right in the heart of downtown Philadelphia. The room is beautiful and has a romantic feel to it. My wife and I recently went there on a Saturday evening and thoroughy enjoyed the food and we were shocked at their reasonable prices. Our appetizers, Mussel in a red sauce and the fried calamari were terrific and were substantial. A ceasar salad followed and it was very good. The main courses were the best; a veal scallopini that was to die for and a steak that was a good as any of the city's steakhouses and at about half the price. Service was attentive. The wine list was a little thin but I found a bottle that was reasonable and matched up to the food. \r \r We are looking to return again and soon. We also reserved a private party there for about 15 of our friends in their newly opened private dining room. Pros: varied menu, fresh ingredients and attentive service Cons: Limited Wine list more

This place should be Best of Philly 5/17/2006

Having recently visited Portofino Restaurant for a birthday dinner, I have to say ihat it is simply one of teh best dining experiences I have ever had, From the moment we arrived, the Maitre'd was charming, the service was outstanding and the food was to die for(although my coffee was a little cool). We tried a bit of everything, pasta, fresh fish, and a filet that still has my mouth watering. And for 6 people with drinks, under $200!!!! Pros: Food , Service, Price more

Horrible! 1/24/2006

Had a bad experince before but decided to try it again. Worst Italian ever. The owner was yelling at people working and the customers. The maitre'd was also very rude. The food tasted as if it had been sitting out. Not fresh seafood! Also saw the owner smoking in the kitchen. Not recommended. Pros: Discount for shows Cons: Rude management, Bland food more
