I had been eating at Ponzos at least once a week (more likely 2 times a week) for the past 3 years. After being introduced to this marvelous joint from a friend who used to work there several years ago--I have been addicted. I am a very picky eater, and almost important as the quality of finished product is the freshness/quality of ingredients, and the cleanliness of the facility. Upon my first entrance I noticed how clean everything was--the huge kitchen which swallows the majority of space is always shining and all the equipment looks new. I dont have OCD or germaphobia in any form--but after 10+ years in the restaurant industry--i am very realistic and skewed by cleanliness and preperation--and I have never seen any Pizza joint that rivals Ponzos--or many 5 star restaurants for that matter. While you can take a short drive up to Franks for some Pie with Cocroaches baked right in the crust (actually happened on one of my visits--of course Ponzos was closed)--or head down the street to Late Night Poo for their overpriced and flavorless pizza--but Ponzos is the only place that serves great quality at a great price repeatadely. I am in SoCal currently--and after trying several of the local shops here I am about to abandon all hope--so I will go on a Pizza fast effective immediately until the next time I am in Houston--unless I can somehow talk Pete or Chris to freeze and ship some real pie out to SD. Its not one of those places that puts up a front as you walk in the door, they do pizza and do it right--which adds to its appeal, feels like a real NY pizza shop--their focus isnt on the decorations or atmosphere--it is soely focused on the PIE--EAT IT! Loads of good sandwiches and pasta dishes too! Cheers!
Pros: Great Pie every time, family run, friendly staff and owners, value, service/on time, menu selection
Cons: They are so good they can afford to do what they want--which sometimes leaves you craving on random days they close down
