Editorial review from Citysearch 6/28/2012

Terrible service!!! After we paid our bill and were waiting for change back, the hostess (owner) came over and said we need to hurry and leave, someone else is waiting for our table. We simply just said we were waiting for our change. As soon as it came back, she began changing the linen on the table and resetting the table while we were still sitting. One of us had to sign the credit card slip and she was getting frustrated with us for not moving immediately. We mentioned how her behavior was very rude and wanted to speak to the manager or owner, and that's when she told us she was the owner!!! Felt unwelcomed and very rushed for a small town/ family business. I will never go back. She needs to learn common courtesy if she would like to own a restaurant! more

Hormone replacement therapy?! 10/16/2010

While there may have been some confusion regarding our actual reservation time (made by the concierge), we arrived and were scolded by who we hope was the owner (I can't imagine a manager with this attitude would still have a job) and told if we didn't eat within 45 minutes, we would need to go elsewhere. We were also served by the rudest waitress we have ever encountered. Later, the owner/manager approached us to inquire how our scarfed down meal was, and we replied by asking if we were eating fast enough. She sent over a complimentary dessert. (Did not make up for the indigestion). On a lighter note, the linguini in red clam sauce was great although the wine was still in the process of being fermented and was costly. Recommendation: have a thick skin and a bottle of estrogen with you for all of the staff. They are a bit cranky to say the least. more

racist owner 10/6/2009

I see that another reviewer had a horrible racist experience here at Pomodoro... I did as well. Not only is she absolutely rude and treats customers like dirt, the owner there is a clear racist (I won't repeat her remarks here) and gives different races preferential treatments. For example, I argued her about it (we waited for a table for more than an hour, but she ALMOST gave our table to a ""better race"" group who arrived much after us), she didn't even apologize. This was not the only incident that night... Will never go there again. Pros: decent food Cons: absolutely rude more

RUDE SERVERS,but good food. 8/12/2009

Very small place w/ unconfortable chairs,RUDE servers but they have good food. Pros: Good food Cons: unconfortable sits,RUDE blond waitress. more

AWFUL 7/12/2009

my problem was that the waitress was incredibly rude and made inappropriate comments to me that were so hurtful that i walked out of the restaurant crying. my date and i were there for 2.5 hours, and she asked us quite rudely to leave so that other customers could have the table. i've never been asked to leave a restaurant before, and while it's somewhat understandable since it's a small place, we paid $50 each for an entree and a shared bottle of wine and she could have asked more nicely. we left her an $18 tip, which i wish now that we hadn't. i went to use the restroom after we paid, and when i came out, she started yelling at me that ""in this country and in this culture, it's considered polite manners to close the bathroom door when you're done using it."" she also said more stuff to follow up on that. first off, it's not my fault that the restaurant is so tiny that i couldn't walk out of the bathroom to close the door, because the waitress was pouring wine at a table. secondly, why does she have to assume that because i have an asian face, that i'm not part of this country and american culture? i've never had someone make judgments on me because of my ethnicity, and so yes, i walked out of pomodoro in tears. Cons: horrendous service more

Not Kid Friendly!! 6/22/2008

We made a reservation for 3 and baby. When we arrived, they said they didn't have high chairs!!?? They offered us no solutions, nothing! Not even the courtesy to try to borrow one from a neighboring restaurant. We had to eat at another restaurant. Very disappointing service. more

They can't even fill up 6 tables on a Friday night 12/14/2007

we'll try to sum this up as quickly as possible. There were 6 total tables, only two of which were occupied, so there was no need for a reservation on a Friday night. My date had to go to the bathroom and was told that he had to go across the street to another restaurant. They only had glasses of ""house wine"" which came from a stock of the cheapest bottle I've ever seen. Not much selection for dinner. The waitress was so bored that she stood in the hallway and watched everyone eat. When it came time to pay we were told that the place was a ""cash only"" restaurant so everyone had to run outside to find the nearest atm. Beware of the seafood medley, which is called something exotic but really seems like a combination of everything left over from everyone else's entrees. more

Perfect fried Calamari, Perfect White Clam Pasta 10/14/2007

I was interested in Pomodoro because at the time it had 100% positive reviews. My friend and I walked in off the street on a rainy Thursday night so there were only two other parties there, with a total of three other tables open. We were seated by the window with a full view of the kitchen. The place is very small, but not crowded. The host/server was very polite and friendly and courteous. The EVOO tasted like the oil I tasted in Tuscany, and the bread was delicious and crusty but fluffy. The fried calamari is the best I've ever had, with the sweet plum tomato sauce on the side topped with fresh herbs and lemon. I had a White Clam sauce pasta dish and my companion had a Cod Fillet dish, both were extremely generous portions and full of flavor. They served the perfect al dente pasta, with the best white sauce. And I know the person who makes the food, loves food and cares about it, because if you look up after you take your first bite, he is watching you to make sure it's the best food you ever had and it probably will be. Thank you for a delicious meal!! I almost forgot, their house red wine, was very nice, ready to drink - don't be afraid to order it! Our server was very attentive and I'd recommend this place to anyone! Pros: Excellent High Quality Upscale Meals, very good price Cons: probably not good for large parties more

Extremely RUDE RUDE RUDE!!! I've never experienced such rude service in a restaurant before! I get better respect in a fast food restaurant than I did here! Cons: RUDE! HORRIBLE SERVICE! more

Fantastic and Friendly Service 12/24/2006

The food was very tasty, enjoyed the atmosphere and felt like i was someplace special. Pros: service was good Cons: nothing to complain about more

BEST in the north end 10/6/2006

I am italian and this is just like we have it back home. Sauf the server who made us change tables, not once but twice, and did not even say thank you. So if you are looking for a romantic night with stellar service this's not it. If you are looking for excellent food, casual dining, and a story to tell at the office the next day, yes come. The food, esp the seafood marinara pasta is AMAZING. Pros: food, prices Cons: that one server...... more

Sshhhh, don' tell... 10/3/2006

anyone that this is THE place on Hanover Street. While the majority of restaurants on this street vie for the title of ""Who Can Serve The Most Unauthentic Italian Food"" (i.e. pasta with chicken, peas, cream sauce, wine, canned tomatoes and whatever else is left in the fridge), Pomodoro does exactly the opposite. Simple dishes with fresh ingredients comprise most of the menu. From fresh calimari or fagioli to outstanding pasta dishes, those wondering why the menu rarely changes will understand once they eat here. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Pros: Most tourists still haven't discovered this little Hanover Street gem Cons: Eventually, they will more

long wait for excellent food 8/26/2006

we waited 45 minutes for our table even though we had made a reservation. it was a saturday night and there was only one server/hostess, so the wait was understandable in the end. the food in the end was fantastic. it was also piping hot when served and came out quickly. also, the house wine is awesome. Pros: great house wine Cons: long wait even with a reservation more

long wait for awesome food 8/26/2006

overall the experience was amazing. we waited a LONG time for a table even though we had a reservation and it was worth it. the food was fabulous-- well prepared and served piping hot. it was flavorful and well presented. the house wine is also great and the server/hostess was really nice. Pros: great food and house wine Cons: long wait for a table even with a reservation more

Delicious (and Deliciously Mellow) 9/22/2005

My husband and I recently had dinner here. It was delicious. This is decidedly more low-key than many of the other North End spots (nothing says ""Italian"" about it - it has sort of a rustic, hip decor), but once you've dined next to a few tacky silk plants and murals of ancient Rome, this is a refreshing change of place! The food is excellent. Not dripping with grease, like many of the other North End joints, and totally fresh and tasty. I had the pasta with mushroom ragu (you have to look for this in fine print - it's something they actually offer for vegetarians, which I'm not, but I'm glad I found it)! The house red was fine, and we also liked taking a night off from having to make big wine selection! Service was prompt and polite. We are looking forward to going back. Pros: great food, great location, hip (not tacky) decor more

Small and good, but not excellent 6/22/2005

We went there and believe it or not, with a party of 9. They actally accomodated us well. They're only choices for beverages were white wine, red wine, beer and water... in a way was refreshing... just red and white... no choices.... The food was excellent - I had the white beans and rigatoni; however the menu is quite limited in my opinion. Room was VERY small and there is NO BAR to sit at, so you have to wait outside for your table. We had a great waiter... our service was good too. Like I said, they surprisingly accomodated our large party nicely, although it was a Tuesday night. Pros: service, location, food Cons: no bar, drink selection, limited menu more

Great food, not so great server 4/20/2005

I think I got the same guy as previous reviewer. The rustic pasta dishes that we ordered were all delicious and the price was certainly right. Calamari and fresh marinara were stellar. Room a little claustrophic for my taste for a party of four, might have felt cozy if it were only two of us...? Maybe if they had one lesl table there.... Our male server was just plain rude. He was the only one on the ""floor,"" but felt he was simply too brusque to say the least. I'd also avoid the place if I was walking through the neighborhood looking for a meal and saw him working and not sure I'd make a reservation there again for chance of having to deal with him again. Pros: Delicious pasta, Great price Cons: Rude waiter dude, room size more

Superb dining experience 11/27/2004

Few restaraunts provide such a charming atmosphere, mouth-watering food, and wonderful service. This is North End's finest Italian restaraunt--I'm convinced. I highly recommend the calamari and the pastas. There will be enough for left-overs, guaranteed. And to add to the joy--the price is right. more

its crunch time!! 12/2/2002

This little eatery is a favorite of mine, and most of the North end natives I have met. Having so few tables in a small area makes for some close eating quarters. You have to be willing to over look customer service and space for the wonderful meal. The pastas are amazing, and perfectly cooked. The calamari is mouth watering, and all the seafood I have ordered has been fresh and tasty. At least try it (preferably on a weeknight) and see for yourself. more

Except for one guy ... 8/31/2002

that works here that doesn't seem to appreciate the value of customer service, this place is great. The marinara is wonderful, as is all the food that we've tried during the many times we've visited. The waitresses are polite and friendly and in general the service is's just too bad I'll do my best to avoid the place if that one individual is working...without him I'd rate Pomodoro a '10'. Pros: Excellent Food Cons: one employee more
