meh. soggy pizza and wrong food delivered. 9/23/2011

pizzicato used to be so yummy a few years back. great fresh ingredients and toppings, crispy crust, awesome tasty salads. they are still pretty good if you go there and eat in the restaurant, but their delivery service is awful. i have gotten the wrong food delivered 3 times in a row. i'm tired of having to call back each time to get the right order, especially since i have to wait over an hour for delivery anyway. when the pizza gets there you have to check the box not only to be sure it is the right order, but also to check to see if the pizza is in good condition-- one was delivered to me once that looked like someone had taken the pizza box and thrown it around like a frisbee before delivery-- it was a mashed soggy mess piled up in one corner, ugh. today's pizza was merely squashed and soggy, and they delivered the wrong salad. what happened, pizzicato? times are tough but your carelessness has cost you another customer. meh. i wish you'd pay attention. more

Great outdoor dining experience 7/24/2011

We recently moved from Atlanta, GA. Our dog has been able to accompany us most places due to Portland's dog friendly atmosphere. We lucked upon Pizzicato looking for outdoor dining on a beautiful summer night. The lights in the trees at 23rd and Glisan were beautiful. We ate a tasty fennel sausage and prosciutto pizza and accompanied it with two awesome IPA's. We found the service to be pleasant and the we know we will be back. more

Gluten free Pizza 4/26/2010

some places are good with making gluten free pizza taste like normal pizza, and some are not, pizzicato is one that is not capable... Terrible crust, and way to pricey for what you get. stay away :( Pros: good toppings Cons: HORRIBLE HORRIBLE gluten free crust more

best pizza in portland 3/8/2010

AMAZING PIZZA. it truly IS gourmet. \r its kinda spendy, but worth it. ultra thin crust, with really good toppings. \r i always just get a slice of pizza to go, so i cant tell you about the service. but when i get it to go, the employees are very friendly! Pros: pizza! Cons: pricey. more

Incredible Shrinking Toppings 2/8/2010

This used to be our go to restaurant for nights when we were too busy to cook. Now I don't think we will ever go back. The pizzas have always been pricey, but they used to be a good value for the money, with first-rate ingredients piled on. The slices were so thick they went a long way. Now the little bits of toppings are put on so thinly that they just aren't satisfying. I can see skimping on expensive ingredients, I guess, since we are in the middle of a recession. But when a pizza that used to have thick potato slices and big roasted garlic cloves now has teeny bits of diced potato and nearly invisible fragments of garlic that is really going too far. And two mushrooms are not enough to top a large pizza! Pros: Good Ingredients Cons: Getting Stingier with them all the time more

Good Food, A service Challenge. 7/13/2009

They still get credit for having great pies and salads. They lose points for the new service standard. Ordering from the counter and then seating yourself, while being told to get your own water and silverware from the station behind you is not what I expect from Pizzacato. Also, poor execution of the service from kitchen to table. Our party of 10+ was asked to form up and order one at a time, then take a seat. Some of us were done eating before others were served. These were not complicated orders. It felt like a new program being rolled out to save some labor money. It will cost them in the long run. I like Pizzacato and the staff, they were working hard. It's the system they were forced to run that needs help. Pros: good food Cons: poor new service standards more

Horrid service! 7/25/2008

Five of us went to Pizzicato on NW 23rd about a week ago. We had the worst service I've ever experienced anywhere! It was so bad that I ended up leaving $0 (zero) tip, and I've never ever done that before... I'm usually a 20% tipper. \r \r Several other groups came, ate and left, before we even got our food. All we ordered were some salads, panninis and slices of pizza (already made and sitting there). We were there almost an hour, the first 35 or 40 minutes of which we were just WAITING. It was excruciating!\r \r We won't be back. more

Great salads. Not enough seating. Inattentive staff. 7/17/2007

Pizzacato was my place of choice on NW 23rd. Excellent salads, attentive staff. The service was pretty good and the people friendly. Ever since the remodel though, the place is somehow different. The staff always seem to be in such a hurry and personalized service is a thing of the past. Along with the remodel, they've had a personnel change and the ""energy"" is very different. I think I need to give it a rest for awhile and see if the place is allowed to move into it's newness before I return. Pros: Great salads Cons: Inattentive staff more

great taste 7/16/2006

I don't eat meat and there is always a veriety of choices. The food tastes great. They also have a stamp card to get free slices or pizzas. You can also get a cold beer or glass of wine if you'd like. Pros: by the slice more

Very Good Pizza, Excellent Salads 11/7/2005

I'm picky and from New York. I'm glad that there is Pizzacata. It's good. Pros: excellent pizza, excellent salads Cons: limited seating more

just ok 6/4/2005

coming from the east coast, I guess I'm just partial to new york style pizza. Don't get me wrong- I like a lot of different types of unique toppings...but this sauce was very sweet tasting and not what pizza sacue should taste like to me..... if you like your sacue especially sweet, this may be the place for you! more

Arugula and pears with candied walnuts 5/29/2005

I love the pizza, but the main reason I go is for the arugala/pear salad. I eat one there and take one for later. Asking for the dressing on the side. more

Yummy! 5/20/2005

I love Pizzacato. They have great pizza (and salad) that's as different or as average as you want. I like their cheese pizza with a little feta on top. I love going to lunch there with a friend or two. They have fresh food, clean resturants, and good service. What more could you ask? Pros: great fresh food, clean resturants, good atmosphere more

Absolutely the Best Anywhere 6/14/2004

I have eaten here for many years. One time David was asked how many times a week he saw me there his answer was, ""I serve 14 meals. I see Jill here at least 7 times a week."" The people are very friendly with great memory of what frequent diners order, they often begin preparation of my 'usual' when they see me park the car. The aroma as you walk in the door is scrumptious. Everyone I bring to Pizzicato immediately says, ""Yum, this is going to be great just from the aroma. Thanks for bringing me here. I will be returning often."" Food is excellent, ambience is warm and welcoming. Have a lovely salad and a huge foccacia bread for under $ 6.00. Absolutely the best Caesar Salad in the WORLD. Nothing compares to their made fresh daily dressing and hand tossed pizza is out of this world. Pros: Great tasting food, Friendly staff, Welcoming ambience more

Incredible 8/6/2003

Pizzicatto's pizza crust is positively the best I have ever had anywhere in Portland, LA and NYC. The balance of ingredients create a sumptuous gourmet delight at a moderate price. Their salads, from the simple caesar to the other gourmet specialities, match the finest restaurants I've ever been too. Terrific. Pros: inexpensive, great ambience, luscious Cons: not in Los Angeles more

Italian Pizza, not American 5/30/2003

Man, was that good pizza. This place has some really superb pizza. Everything was very fresh and thoughtfully made. The Margheritta pizza was better than any other Marghertta pizza i've ever had. All this praise from someone who doesnt even like pizza. Go figure. Ohh, their salads are excellent too. Try the ceasar or the arugulla/pear. Pros: Tasty food, Great servers, Fun Atmosphere more

Pizza for the Gourmet 6/27/2002

I can't say enough about the thought that has gone into these pizzas. My roommate is a trained chef that used to work at Pizzicato. They care enough about ingredients that they pay extra to import high-tariff cheeses from France even though they know that only a handful of people will ever appreciate it. Pros: location Cons: pay parking more
