I really miss this place. Aside from Nicky D's, this is the best pizza in the Echo Park/Silverlake area. It's a unique kind of take on New York style pizza, and in that same vein ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/27/2013

WOW!!!!! I'm not much in to writing reviews, but the food and service at this Restaurant is great. From the time you first walk-in they make you feel at home. When I got back from Iraq I made sure one of my first stops was Pizza Buona's. Pizza Buona's team members keep up the great food and work.Thank you more

still like this place! 6/4/2009

usually order submarine, breadsticks with garlic, and/or one of the named pizzas rustica or whatever the other house special is. its true the cheese slides off but i still like the place. i do have to reconsider and give it 4 star considering other places i've tried. Pros: great fresh breadsticks with garlic. great crust Cons: cash only. kind of soggy. more

My girlfriend threw up in her mouth and my stomach hurts... 11/21/2008

I had heard from several sources that Pizza Buona served fantastic pizza. I read the reviews on this site and since they were predominantly and overwhelmingly positive, we thought we would check it out. We laughed about the two harsh reviews and thought that the average of stars made it worth a try. So, last night we made our way down Sunset to the graffiti covered building, parked and took a seat in the empty restaurant. I take my Pizza very seriously. For those of you who praised this joint, I have to say that this pizza does not deserve 5 stars by any standard. There are a couple of nasty reviews here, giving PB a mere one star. Well, that's not fair either. I am giving it 2 stars for being incredibly mediocre. The negative reviewers did make some great comments with which we do agree. From the first piece, the cheese slid off the crust as if it were desperate to stay on the platter. It was a balancing act after that. Just trying to keep the cheese and crust together was impossible. The toppings were simply ok and the crust was not bad. We ordered the pizza well done in an attempt to guarantee that the cheese would fuse with the crust as we had read some reviews that mentioned a cheese-sliding issue. The plan failed. If you are thinking about ordering pizza from Pizza Buona and absolutely want it delivered, I don't recommend it at all. It was mediocre in the restaurant, so delivery wont help keep the cheese in place. For delivery I do recommend Garage Pizza if they will deliver to your area. For my money... I would rather make the trip to Eagle Rock and wait in line for pizza at Casa Bianca... by far the best thin crust in LA). Pros: My car didn't get stolen and the crust wasn't bad... Cons: Not a great pizza... sorry. more

best cheese slice in Echo Park / Silverlake 5/10/2008

I really miss this place. Aside from Nicky D's, this is the best pizza in the Echo Park/Silverlake area. It's a unique kind of take on New York style pizza, and in that same vein it's best when straight up with just cheese or pepperoni. It's thin crust and a sweet tomato sauce under some cheese that perfectly handles that balance between chewy and crunchy. Pros: Straightfoward pizza the way I like it Cons: Cash Only more

Excellent pizza 3/14/2008

I have to say that this is some really good pizza. I wont say its the best in LA but it is definately one of my favorites. I usually order the 'rustica'. its true that this is some soggy pizza atleast at the center but I find it to be delicious. the actual crust is nice and crispy. I always have it with some fresh garlic bread sticks and sweet burgundy wine. I have also had pasta here. I've tried the cheese ravioli and spaghetti with italian sausage they were also great. The sauce tastes fresh every time. Pros: AWESOME: fresh garlic bread sticks, cheap sweet burgundy (hehe), nice crispy crust, fresh tasty marinara. Cons: cash only :( more

Don't TILT the pizza box!!! 2/25/2008

We live just a mile away from Pizza Bouno. Their food is generally good except for their pizzas. We've eaten in or taken out food from this establishment over a dozen times in the past year. Cons: topping don't stay put! more

Warm service and delicious!!! A great pizza dive right in your own neighborhood. 4/8/2007

Closing a hectic weekend, my boyfriend and I decided to stop in at Pizza Buona one Sunday night. The atmosphere was familiar and warm, with a few couples seated in the booths lining the walls and a large group of friends who sat at the table in the center of the room sharing a few pies and pitchers of beer. Pizza Buona's menu boasts familiar Italian dishes in addition to their pizza, including a well selected beer menu. We ordered a vegetarian style pizza, but requested a few substitutions for the oringinal toppings. In about 15 minutes we were greeted with a piping hot pizza made exactly to our specifications. The sauce was tasty and our requested toppings generously scattered evenly around our beautiful pizza pie. The owner (I assume it was the father), came out to greet us and to make sure our meal was to our liking. Pizza Buona is a modest locally run family business, not some overly ""hip"" hangout, (such as other overpriced competitors in nearby areas) and that's what we especially liked about it. Obviously Pizza Buona cares about their service and product, which in turn keeps their customers from coming back. We're headed there again tonight because in addition to craving a great meal, we're also looking forward to the laid-back and comfortable atmosphere that is Pizza Buona. We're so glad they're in our area! Pros: Locally owned, modest prices, service with a smile and awesome pizza! more

Best Italian food in Echo Park/Silver Lake area 3/1/2007

I love Pizza Buono! Their food is great and they deliver to Echo Park as many Pros: Great food, well priced, nice people, they deliver to Echo Park. Cons: Busy street corner. more

The Worst Pizza I've Ever Had!!! 10/22/2006

I read the raving reviews about this so-called New York style pizza and was really excited to try it. I live about 10 blocks from the restaurant yet it took over an hour to deliver my over-priced pizza when I was quoted a much less wait time. I get the pizza and the crust was soaked and soggy, not thin & crispy as reviewed. The pizza wasn't even warm and the cheese was like plastic and it kept on sliding off the pizza--it wasn't melted ON the pizza at all! It was rather a big glob of hard cheese and toppings. This is hands down the worst pizza I have ever had. Obviously these people who are raving about this pizza have never had pizza! I'll take Dominos anyday over this joint! Cons: Cold, wet & soggy pizza with hard plastic cheese, overpriced more

Great Spot! 9/30/2006

I have to say I love this pizzeria. I do not know how many times I've either ordered out or visited Pizza Buona since I moved to Los Angeles three years ago but nowhere else in the area makes me as consistently contented as this place. The pizzas, the veal parmesan, chicken parmesan, eggplan parm, minestrone soup, garlic bread, and wine (atleast for the price on the wine) are all excellent. The salads I would probably avoid and go for the soup instead. The location and service has always been friendly whether it's been delivery or eating in and I can not remember being disappointed once. Great restaurant to know and I can guarantee you will want to keep coming back! Pros: Great food, great price, and a different and friendly ambience Cons: Salads could be a bit greener/fresher more

Grrrreat Italian. And pizza isn't all. Worth any wait or drive. Play Dino or other classics on the juke box ! 9/6/2006

Discovered the establishment in 1963 when a friends mom brought 25 pizzas for a class party at our home. Wow! Greatest pizza I'd had in my 12 or so years of age. Met Mr. Bozza, the founder of Pizza Bozza, and watched him craft us pizzas ever since. He founded the restaurant in 1959 so it's stood the test of time and aged well. Pros: Old ambience. It's "well established." Ambieince: Romance is where you make it. You'll feel like you came home to a friends for dinner. Cons: Parking is tight, but worth the walk. Sunset Blvd can be busy, but you'll park if you look around. more

Real pizza in LA 6/19/2006

Pizza Buona is the first and only place in LA I've ever been able to find a real pizza. The pizza is done right (east coast style) meaning that the crust is tough and crispy the cheese is greasy and the sauce tastes just right. Even the shop itself reminds me of home. It makes me hungry just thinking about it. Pros: Real pizza Cons: No pizza by the slice more

Futuristic... 4/29/2006

Blast from the past. While the neighborhood continues to gentrify; the quality, service and of course the pizza perseveres. Best pizza in LA. Rock on!!! Pros: Food, Price, Quality Cons: Parking more

Nirvana 4/28/2006

Still reeling at how good that pizza was. I didn't know pizza could be this good. Service was on time and pizza was delivered piping hot. I'm already thinking about ordering another tomorrow. There's a tear of happiness in my eye as I write this. Thank you Buono, my life is finally fullfilled. more

Great Pizza 6/12/2005

Best Pizza I've had since I've lived in LA. Crispy crust that's been burnt to perfection and the cheese is just oozing off!! I called and ordered delivery and it arrived in a half an hour, piping hot and they had given me parmesan and peppers without having to ask for it. All in all the pizza was delicous!! Pros: Good Food more

Awesome Pizza!! 3/11/2005

This dive-y place on Sunset in Echo Park rules. I recommend the eggplant and marinated tomatoes pizza, which is topped with tons of garlic (don't go here before a date). Also, their garlic breadsticks are AMAZING. And, they have a great house salad with a tasty home-made Italian dressing. Casa Bianca in Eagle Rock and Pizza Buona in Echo Park are by far the best pizza places in Los Angeles. more

The Best Pizza in LA!! 5/12/2004

Pizza Buona has the best pizza in LA. The crust is cooked to perfection, the sauce it outa-this world, and it's very cheesy and yummy-licious! It's a tiny little dive-not really for eating in-mostly for take-out but if you don't mind a bit of a wait and a very urban-funky atmosphere you'll be fine. It seems like it's been there forever, I hear the ownership is kinda new but the secrets are old country. Great for a mid-week meeting with friends or take-out any time. Pros: inexpensive, no pretense, great food more

Excellent Pizza 8/24/2002

Pizza Buona is a close second to Village Pizzeria on Larchmont, for being the best in Los Angeles. It is a completely different place, but demands respect for the food. Buona is friendly and family run, and they get it right all of the time. Great crust and cheese. A close Number 2 to the trendy Larchmont Village Pizzeria, but very good. Pros: Great food, Inexpensive, Fresh Cons: Traffic more

This is by far the best pizza place in town... you MUST check it out. I recommend the Pizza Rustica!! Guaranteed you won't be disappointed... It's an EchoPark landmark more
