The Pied Cow is great for a quiet snack with friends. It's more expensive than a lot of coffee cafes, if not vastly, but the real reward is the ambiance -- an outdoor garden that's a little world unto itself, or an intimate warm room hung with art and cozy seating. It's often crowded, but somehow never feels overfull, even when there's a wait. (I've never had a very long wait, though.) The lighting is dim, and this is most definitely a spot to visit with your people -- a good place to end an evening or begin one
Fare is essentially appetizers, desserts and beverages: they do wonderful steamers for a little over $3, and luxurious espresso drinks for closer to $4. Desserts and appetizers start at around $4 and upwards, most of them around $6-7. The Pied Cow is most usually open until 1:00 AM, and I heartily recommend it. Although I'm told they overbrew their tea (I haven't tried it, but I tend to like mine that way, so it's a matter of taste) going here always makes me feel like a faerie queen at the best tea party in the world.
