Greats place to meet people 7/10/2008

It used to be the best place in town, but it closed over a year ago. Too bad someone doesn't get it back up and going. I would if I had the money. It was one of the warmest, friendliest, and fun places in Kansas City. I spent about 17 years going there on Fridays after work. Best people I ever met were there. Pros: Wonderful place Cons: Not open anymore more

Great place to hear live music! 6/30/2006

Be sure and get there early or you may end up standing. Went on a Friday and heard some of the best Blues courtesy of Lonnie Mcfadden and Mark Lowery. Happy to hear they play every friday 5-8:30 or so with the second band starting shortly after. Get there before 9 and there is no admission, $5.00 afterwards. This place may be tiny but it is huge on character and the upscale crowd adds to it all. That said, our server was horrible and the food we tried (phoenix soup, soup du jour, crab cake sandwich and phoenix philly dip), either came out wrong or cold and all of it was the blandest food we have both ever had and left us both out of commission the next day due to illness. The other servers seemed more attentive to their tables and were more than happy to get drinks for us when we couldn't find our own server. Maybe we should have tried one of their $20.00 steaks but will eat someplace else in the future before we go. Pros: Atmosphere, talented musicians, crowd Cons: Food, beer Prices, our server more

good vibe all the time 9/9/2005

this is my fav spot to go and it's always a balst no matter what time of day. everything is excelent from the food, drink, customers and music. Pros: dark, great food, great drinks Cons: crowed more

A nice Saturday night 3/27/2005

I was kind of familiar with The Phoenix but had never stopped in for the evening. The Citysearch recommendation was excellent, and all of the ratings were unanimously positive. My girlfriend and I decided to try it and we were happy we did. Our seats were not totally desireable, but finding a seat is a miracle to begin with. It's a good place for drinks and music---although a little bit pricey ($7 martinis...although quite good). Oh... and we managed to arrive right before the set---so we missed the cover charge....that was nice. Pros: Decor, Service, Music Cons: Croweded more

My husband and I have the opportunity to stay in downtown KC about twice each year. Each time we go to the Phoenix the waitress Kelly remembers us! The service is excellent, and the food & drinks tasty - the entertainment is well worth the stop. more

The moment you walk into the Phoenix, you feel like you are surrounded by history in the heart of downtown Kansas City. What a great place to enjoy a cocktail and some great jazz, while looking out the window and seeing the KC skyline. My favorite place for jazz! • The Scene
Dimly lit to the point of being noirish, the darkness doesn't extend to the mood. Sitting down can be next to impossible--people tend to find a table and hold onto them...
