Rude Waitstaff & Tasteless Broth 11/26/2006

I took my Mom here & was really embarrassed by not only the service, but also the quality of the food. To start with, our waiter was really impatient & got our order wrong. Once we received the correct food, the broth was really tasteless. Not a good experience for either my Mom & I. Also, the bathrooms were very dirty, they didn't have any toilet paper or soap. Good thing I had extra Kleenex & Wet Ones! When I told the cashier about it, they couldn't care less. I definitely will not be back. I should have taken her to Pho Bac & I eventually did so that she could try the real deal. Much, much better (even if they don't serve a free creme puff). more

Good food for low prices 8/31/2006

How many ways can you make Pho? The answer is... very many. Than Brothers isn't gourmet Pho with exactly created broth. The broth can be a little bland sometimes, a little heavy on the salt sometimes. However, they give you a great variety of combinations of Beef to choose from - brisket, flank, tripe, tendon, round steak and meatballs. They also serve a Chicken Pho. The servings come in 4 different sizes - small / medium / large / x-large and you can also get extra noodles, meat or meatballs. If you want a fast, cheap, hot meal in the Ballard area, it's hard to beat this. You also get a little cream-puff for desert. Try the Vietnamese coffee. Which is very strong and very sweet (served with condensed milk) more

Top of the Line 5/31/2006

It's true - if you want fresh ingredients and cheap pho - don't go anywhere else! It's very consistent - their iced coffees are great to have on hand when you accidentally put in too much chili sauce! You have to have cash, but it's cheap - $10. WILL buy you a great, healthy meal. The only downfall is not uncommon in pho restaurants - the atmosphere is kind of closed in and stuffy. But, it's still worth it! more

good ol cheap pho 5/26/2006

Than Bros. is great. For around 10 dollars, my wife and I get two heaping bowls pho chay (veggie), two iced coffees with condensed milk and two eclairs for dessert. It's quick, tasty/spicy as can be with the added chile sauces and right on the pocketbook. more

i don't get the hype 12/29/2005

If this is the only place you eat pho, ok, but there are so many better places in town. Like all other Than Brothers restaurants, the pho is watery and mediocre. The cream puffs are not terrible but often very dry. more

Amazing food @ inexpensive prices! 12/5/2005

I've eaten a lot of pho in my lifetime, and I have to say that Pho Than Brothers is hands-down, the best pho I have ever had! Even a medium bowl is extremely filling, and very cheap at under $5. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED on a cold, winter day! :) more

Great atmosphere & best value for your money. 10/29/2005

Pho at Than Brothers is a welcome addition to the Ballard budget dining option. The soup is delicious and filling. The ingredients are fresh. The bonus cream puff dessert will guarantee you will return again - great marketing. Service is swift and the restaurant is clean and bright. The thing the other reviewers fail to mention is that the Market store plays lovely soothing music to make dining a pleasant experience. Sometimes it is classical and other times it is Vietnamese popular music, but never anything jarring or dissonant. I also enjoy the people watching out the large windows. more

bad pho 9/14/2005

Than Brothers Pho, might seem like a nice place to chow down on some vietinamise soup or sandwhich, but its really not. I've been there about three times, and I remember once finding a long peice of hair in my pho soup! Plus, there meat is way too dry. If you want a great place to eat some pho, try going to Pho Vietnam and tell me the difference! more

Perfect comfort food 9/8/2005

Than Brothers is a local chain of Vietnamese noodle soup restaurants. The simple menu includes only Pho (veggie, chicken and different combinations of beef), cream puffs and beverages. If you've never had Pho before, you're really missing out on one of the tastiest inexpensive dishes out there. Order your favorite flavor, add the raw bean sprouts, basil, chilies, sauces and lemon juice and enjoy. Also, try the lemonade (my favorite!). Oh, and it's cash-only, but with a medium Pho (actually VERY large) priced around $4, it's not a big deal. more

Great Pho 8/20/2005

Than Brothers Pho is the place to go for pho in the Ballard area. You get a huge, steaming bowl for around 4 dollars. Another great thing about Than Brothers is there vegetarian pho, which is hard to come by. They use a vegetarian broth and add plenty of tofu. A great deal and a satisfying meal. more

Just Delicious Pho 8/16/2005

The menu isn't extensive, the food isn't varied, but if you're in the mood for pho (and maybe some cream puffs), you can't do much better than Than Brothers. House-made cream puffs arrive when you sit down, and it's a delight to eat dessert first. Then comes a brimming bowl of noodles, broth and meat, with the traditional sprouts, basil leaves and lime on the side. For under $5 (and usually in under 5 minutes), Than Brothers serves pho with any combination of beef roast, brisket, tripe and tendon (or chicken or vegetarian). Do get a small or medium the first time; they're huge. The coffee and tea drinks are worth a try, too -- very potent and very sweet. more

Best Pho in Capital Hill 8/9/2005

Pho Than brothers is the best pho house in Capital Hill. Located on the north end of Broadway, although there are a few Vietnamese restaurants in the area, Than Brothers is one of the few Pho houses in Capital Hill. The Pho is similar to other Pho houses you might frequent with many varieties of pho from the simple to the adventurous. The portion sizes are generous to say the least. I recommend the small or medium sized bowls. The medium is equivalent to a large in most pho houses. I have yet to see someone order the large or extra large bowls and can only imagine that it is impossible to finish. As a nice treat after your meal, you get some delicious cream puffs for dessert free of charge (these cream puffs remind me of what my mother used to make when I was a child). Largest bowl of pho for a reasonable price. more
