I have lived in Memphis, and visited KC. Both have outstanding BBQ. \r
Next time I am in St.Louis I will have to try some of the other recommended bbq...b/c I went to Phils and it was literally the worst meal I have ever had in my life. The ribs were bland, the pork steak was thin and WAY over cooked, the pulled pork was watery, slimy and just plain nasty. The place was just an all around miserable experience. I enjoy all kinds of bbq...dry, wet, sidewalk vendor, upscale restaurant...it doesnt matter ill try it and usually like it. HOWEVER, this place was just HORRID. They serve your food in a pool, LITERALLY A POOL, of bbq and water mixture. You cant even taste the meat whether it is too bland, or just too over sauced. I will try Roper, Bandanas, or maybe some of the others...but ill jump off the arch before I waste money at Phils again. \r
Im about to get sick just thinking about that meal again. \r
Just miserable...they should put it out of business...for those of you who like it; please travel 4 hours south to Central BBQ or Neelys I-55 BBQ in Memphis. \r
Or go to Kansas City and try Fiorellas Jack Stack BBQ, or Ruston, LA for the Rib Shack, Baton Rouge, LA for Podnah's, Dreamaland in Alabama...and ANY OTHER BBQ PLACE YOU CAN FIND. If you think this food is good, you dont know good BBQ. Its disgusting. The Ribs at Chilis are better...just terrible.
