I love coming here for special occasions with family and friends. The coq au vin is definitely affordable for a nice dinner out on a college student's budget ($16, not bad). Their...

HORRIBLE service eclipses the good food 10/25/2005

My husband and I tried this place the very first week it opened since it's so close to our home. We didn't fault them then for not yet having their act together, and the food was so good and the value fair that we decided to go there in May to celebrate a family event. The service was even worse. Although we had made a reservation well in advance, we still had to wait OVER AN HOUR for our table with no apologies - in fact the manager seemed amused. After being crammed at a table way too small for the 5 of us, we waited an hour for our appetizers, and another 45 minutes for our entrees. Through this, our server was nowhere to be found. When we made a polite joke about all the waiting, again the manager treated us with arrogance. We have not been back since. Pros: food Cons: service more

Great New Spot 9/13/2005

A great addition to the area. Although small in size, pricing is reasonable and the food is outstanding. Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive Cons: Small more

Bonjour 9/4/2005

Just a really tight meal from start to finish, chicken pate to die for, esgargot amazing, skirt beautiful, choc souffle one of the best in the city, duck confit, oh stop me it was all fantastic, and our server Dennis was wonderful. We want to hit the whole menu. Pros: Food, Service, Manager Cons: Decor more

WOW! 8/27/2005

what an awesome time! i had 4 friends in from out of town, so there were 6 of us for dinner. the food was amazing, the service was friendly and prompt. (Susan was a great waitress) we had... the salmon appetizer, the mussels, steak, 2 duck confits, a lamb, a salmon, and a sol, 3 bottles of pinot, 3 glasses of white wine, 2 gateau petit robert (dessert, multi-payer cake with Grand Marnier soaked layers), a creme brulee, and 2 double espressos. and the totaly with tip was $300, 50 bucks a person... wow. Highly Recommended Pros: value, food, service more

Pseudo - Francais 8/22/2005

We decided to check out this charming little bistro for ourselves after all Improper Bostian hype. I truly appreciate the spirit in which the place seems to be run. The host was more than accomadating and our waitress was knowledgeable and gracious. The food, however, seemed to have been prepared by someone who wasn't quite sure what she/he was doing, but just took a go at it anyway. I'll say that I appreciate the sheer fact that they have a vegan pate on the menu. The entrees ALL come with the same sides!! And my tuna had some terriyaki-type sauce on it that tasted like it had been poured out the jar and onto my plate. Dinner would have been better if I had cooked it myself (and i don't cook). more

best food in boston 8/9/2005

I ate here a couple of months ago, and am still telling friends and family about the wonderful food. We had foie gras, mussels, steak and scallops. And chocolate cake, soaked in grand marnier for desserts that came with a miniature chocolate eiffel tower. Everything was heavenly, and so reasonable. I will surely return every time I visit Boston. more

slow and steady wins the race 6/17/2005

My boyf and i thought we'd give this place a whirl last night after reading all the recent reviews. The food was top notch and the service impeccable. We ordered mussels and escargots (both delish), and the seared pork for the main course. No complaints about the food! But after waiting an hour or so for it to arrive...our patience was wearing a little thin...a couple who had arrived before us were still waiting for their entree even after we had cleared our plates! If you don't mind enjoying a glass of wine or 2 before dinner it's definitely worth the wait! We'll def go back once the chef has his timing down! Pros: Menu, wine list, price Cons: Wait, snug seating more

Finally! 6/6/2005

It's great to finally have a reasonably-priced restaurant in my neighborhood that actually serves good food. The service is efficient, though a bit cool, perhaps due to the fact that they're French? We enjoyed everything from the appetizers to dessert, especially the duck confit and macaroons! It all made us feel like we were back in Paris. The place is definitely cozy, but tiny... I probably wouldn't bother going without a reservation, unless it was a weeknight. Pros: moderately priced, good food Cons: small space more

Prepare to wait and wait and wait 5/29/2005

We went on a Friday evening--place was packed at 7:30. Downstairs seating had a cold ambiance due to the tiled floor. Everything started out okay but after an hour when we still hadn't received our soup and salad, we asked the owner/manager? to check on it. He gave us a condescending talk about how everything is made to order, even the soup and salad. Regardless, it shouldn't take 75 min to receive appetizers! We almost finished our wine before the food arrived. When they brought the entree, they messed up my husband's order and I had to wait while they figured it out. Food was excellent but the time was ruined because of the terrible pacing of our meal. Our waiter was so embarassed that he barely came around; viewed the table from afar with a panicked look on his face. They just don't have their act together yet. Pros: good value, excellent food Cons: kitchen is extra slow, SLOW SLOW SLOW more

Fantastic! 5/1/2005

Tried this restaurant on Sunday night and it was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The food was delicious (highly recommend the lamb) and the host was gracious and completely charming (and is French?). The pastry chef is also wonderfully friendly and quite skilled - I would recommend the creme brulee - desserts are not described nearly as well as they should be. Reservations recommended esp after some great reviews in the papers though the host is very accomodating. Will definitely be back. more
