When I purchased my maltese from there...I was under the impression that they get them from reputable breeders. When I first got her she had kennel cough but I figured it happens no big deal and took her to the vet and it was resolved in a week. But little did I know that was just the beginning. I noticed the itching was becoming a prob..she sleeps in our bed so it kept us up half the nite. 48 hours later she lost all the hair on her back..it scabbed and she would barely move. Now during this madness.. I changed her shampoo. I put antibacterial creme on her, etc.. At this time I just took her into the nearest vet office. She had severe allergies to everything. Her own skin mites had overtaken her body because she has such a low ammune system(a ton of other stuff too much to list). Both her back knees, which I knew, were popping out of the socket. For a month I took her every other day to the vet to get scraped like a burn patient and wrapped in gauze...For the next month, we took her about once to twice a week.we slowly progressed to where her food and lifestyle has changed dramatically. She has all her hair back(which is unbelievable..the vet didn't think this would happen) and she is on special food(special food that cost us $15 a 5 lb bag..that is as much as a huge bag of dog food). We are not sure if all the poisons we had to put into Cookie's body will shorten her lifespan or even just the plain trama, to a 6 lb dog, that she had to go thru..only time will tell.
Her parents should of never been bred together...all this was because of genetics. I could of came back to Miami and turn in Cookie, my now child who we had struggled with to survive, and get some money from them because it was within the year the law allows. But to me..it wasn't about the money it was about the torture the rest of the offspring will have to go thru if they continue to breed animals that should not be bred in the first place. All the vet bills cost us over $2000. Plus the $1000 it cost for Cookie. I could of purchased a show dog. Later on I learned that Cookie had come from a puppy mill. Please do your research before purchasing a pet and having a lot of heartache. Although, I have gone thru all this.. I wouldn't trade Cookie for the world. She is our baby.
