I highly recommend Pet Haven if you are looking to adopt a pet. They are a shelter-free service, which means the animals (cats and dogs) don't stay in a shelter, but instead stay with foster families. This
is an advantage in matching a pet with a home, as the foster family can often give you helpful information about how the pet behaves and interacts on a day-to-day basis. You can get a sense of whether the animal likes other animals, or children, and how much interaction and attention is optimal for them. I adopted a cat through this service, and the personality picture that the foster family had painted was quite accurate. They have a website where you can see pictures of
pets, and read bios, and they have a schedule for taking the pets to stores in the area, where you can meet them. Some foster families are willing to let people come to their home.
