Best

Okay, in the name of full disclosure I have to admit that I'm pretty biased. I have been coming to the People's happy hour once a week for almost 5 years now, and know the awesome...

Therer are only two bonuses about this place. 1 Jesse works here, and 2 the location. Someone needs to teach the bartenders how to make a proper bartenders margarita.

Fantastic Pub, Great Food Late 3/23/2006

The People's Pub is a cozy, friendly, dark wood kind of bar. The service really good most of the time, but some of the waitstaff get a little flustered and sloppy on Friday and Saturday nights. The food and beers here are remarkable, and German. Deep Fried Pickles, Schnitzles, and Stuffed Beats yum. (Of course, you can also get a basic burger and fries, or veggie sandwich.) Bizarrely, you can also now get Creme Brulee if thats your thing. The Beer list is so long that despite my best efforts, I am still meandering my way to its end. There is a full-service bar, and their kitchen is open until 1 AM. Also, there are games. Games of all shapes, sizes, degrees of complexity, and content are here. Everything from Cribbage to Operation, and from Go to Boggle. Do not underestimate the joy of games. Even if you are not playing, and have no intention ever to roll dice in a bar, the vibe in this bar is, well, playful. more

Really tasty german food and beers. 12/29/2005

We used to hang out here for the drinks, before Sunset had a liquor license, but I finally checked out the food. Good sausages and schnitzel. A bit heavy of course. more

Die Pub! (I think that's German) 9/20/2005

The People's Pub is worth the trip to Ballard...or...if you already live in Ballard...it's worth sticking around for. Before you even get to the food and drink, the pub hours are glorious in and of themselves. They are open until 2 AM which is normal except that the kitchen stays open from 10PM-1:30AM so it's a great place to top off the night. The menu boasts an assortment of German food, but the reason to go is for the Fried Pickles and some beer. I'm not saying this is a good place to die of a heart attack, but if a good sports game is on and you can get a 20 oz. glass of Guinness (and about two dozen other beers) for 4.50, it's as good a place as any. With a friendly late night bartender, great beer prices, and a cheap happy hour, check out The People's Pub. more

great German food and beers 8/20/2005

The name doesn't do much to describe this particular place - the People's Pub has a great selection of German beers and food. Where else can you order deep fried pickles, roasted stuffed beets and a Rauchbier (smoked beer!) to wash it down with? As if it need washing - the beets are wonderful and I don't like beets! The smoked bratwurst and pickled apples are good too, as are the more pedestrian burgers, fries, and American brews available. Ask for Lisa and tell her "Alan" sent you.. more

My Introduction to German Food 8/4/2005

Disclaimer: The Peoples Pub was opened by a former roommate of mine. The Peoples Pub was my first experience with real German food. I was pretty sure I wouldn't like it, but boy was I wrong. Jon, the owner, took the former head chef to Germany before opening the bar so that he could experience the food as it was meant to be done, and come up with a good selection for the pub. It worked. They also have a great selection of German beers, which are quite good. The menu recommends a beer for each meal. The sad thing is that two of my favorite items are no longer regular items on the menu, but do occasionally show up as specials - the bacon wrapped jalapeños, and the rouladen. The bartenders are great as well. If you're walking by on the street it can look empty because of the layout, but head to the back and you will generally find a good crowd in the bar area. more

Great Bar, Great German Food 7/20/2005

While not much to look at from the street, the peoples pub has a great bar in the back with many excellent beers on tap. Sevice is very frendly, but a little understaffed sometimes. The food is great, offering many tradional german dishes as well as a couple of not so tradional ones. My favorite after a night of beer drinking, the deep fried pickles. Yes, deep fried pickels. If you've never had a beer and fried pickle, your not really living. more

A Pub for the People 5/10/2005

The selection of beers is outstanding!! I love the back bar. The bartenders are super friendly. They have great pub food too. I recommend the fish and chips. Good and greasy while filling. If you do not like smoke, stick to the front room, it is also much quieter for conversation. more

Fried pickles and German beer 4/22/2005

There are two mains to come here, in my opinion: 1. the good selection of German beers on tap, even smoky rauschbiers sometimes and 2. the fried dill pickle appetizers! it may sound strange but they're great, and part of the appeal is the amazing mustard sauce they come with. and I'm not usually a big fan or fried foods like this OR mustard... more
