On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, my wife, five friends and I were at your establishment at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate our friend’s birthday. Because of the negative experience I encountered, I feel this experience needs to be addressed.\r \r When my wife, friend and I entered I was informed my wife had to get out of her wheelchair and make the two steps and walk to where our group of friends were. Although my wife is physically challenged, with difficulty and assistance, she got out of the wheelchair and joined the others in the party. What is your policy regarding people in wheelchairs or using electric mobility devices?\r \r When everyone had given the waitress our orders and requested separate checks, we were informed the policy of your establishment is one check for parties of five or more with a gratuity of eighteen per cent automatically added. When we again asked the waitress to break down the check for us, she was very rude and stated she was not going to do it. What is the reason of this policy and why would a patron’s request for a separate check be denied?\r \r Throughout the luncheon, the drinks of all others in my party were refilled yet my drink was never refilled. I believe my drink was not refilled because I did not drink water or iced tea. Being required to pay a gratuity of eighteen per cent is in excess for this type of service and is unacceptable to me.\r \r The most humiliating experience of this visit was when I called to the waitress. She was carrying a tray and accidentally dropped it creating a small mess on the floor. Although I had heard her make a comment about this incident, two members of my party also heard her commenting that it was my fault this had happened. First, I was not the one carrying the tray and second, my back was to her with a distance of at least three feet.\r \r Because this experience we encountered was very negative, we cannot and will not visit your establishment again nor will \we recommend it others.\r more

In the past I have been a fan of Pennie's BBQ but the past few times we have gone there we have had TERRIBLE service and tonight 2/4/13 around 6 pm we went there .. the sign said ""Please Seat Yourself"" so we sat down and 15 minutes later we had still not even been acknowledged so when we saw a booth open on the other side of the place with a different server we got up and moved to that area.. a young woman with blue green streaks in her hair who had walked past us repeatedly when we were sitting in her section came over and wiped the table with a scowl on her face and still not even the slightest acknowledgement that we were even there! After another 10 minutes the server from that area walked by for the 3rd time and said ""I will be with you in a few minutes."" but after a few minutes we were still sitting and waiting so my husband and I picked up our coats and walked out after I informed the server that after almost a half an hour of waiting without service we would be leaving and having dinner elsewhere! From today on we will be dining anywhere else but Pennie's!! more

had a horrible experiece with this place, beware!!!!! I placed an order for a whole slab of ribs, fries, and potatoe salad. This was placed for a meeting at my work. My boss went to pick up the order. When he returned we only had fries and a 1/2 container of potatoe salad. I called to let them know, never did I get an apology. The manager was very mean, unconcerned that we spent over $20 and just had fries and potato salad. I was told there was a shortage on ribs, I have no idea how that is my problem. The order was placed, accepted, and we should have gotten our food. My boss had to take time out to go back up there. They did not replace the fries or potatoe salad. WE WILL NEVERRRRRRRR GO BACK THERE AGAIN. I AM ALSO FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB!!!!!! more

Pennie's BBQ worth the trip 2/10/2012

I have learned to go hungry because the portions are ample, but I still end up taking home something, and savour every last bite. The Chicken Kabobs (with or without bbq sauce) are great. I always get the slaw and sometime fries (crisp and thin). I recently tried their chicken wings with the blue cheese sauce: another large serving but I ate every last bite and loved it! Drinks are reasonably priced as is everything else. Very relaxed and casual. more

So me and 2 of my friends pre ordered our lunch from work so that we would have time to sit down and eat a meal on our hour lunch break. We go inside and are directed to the bar to pick up our food. We got our food and went back to the table to eat only to be told that we can't sit at a table since we ordered our food beforehand.....are we not paying customers just like everyone else in the place? The restaurant wasn't even half full so it's not like we were taking up tables for other people that were waiting or anything. Then we ordered to go sodas and they didn't have lids and the server told us we could go to the gas station if we would like. Really? By the time we got to eat, our food was cold and just ok at best. Needless to say none of us will be back to Penny's BBQ. Very disappointed. more

Worst Service Ever 2/3/2011

The service is slow and the servers are unprofessional and impolite. The place is filthy. They charge for soda refills. But to be fair, I will say the food is always good and the serving sizes are large. more

No problems 12/3/2010

My husband & I, along w/our friends & family frequent Penny's at least once a month. We've even used them for group holiday parties. They've never once been unprofessional and the food has always been good. The only drawbacks, I would say, are the restrooms and they can sometimes be slow. Otherwise, I recommend them. more

This is Barbecue??? 1/6/2010

Hard to believe this place gets away with calling their food ""barbecue"". Maybe I'm biased cuz I grew up in KC but this is the worst excuse for food I have had in an establishment to date. Had to run 4 miles when I got home just to work off the sugar high. DO NOT ORDER ANY ""PULLED CHICKEN"" as it is a soggy mess--should be called ""brown sugar paste with pulverized chicken"". Even the green beans had a funky taste--how bad a cook do you have to be to mess up green beans?? Waitress neglected to mention the grossly overindulgent portion sizes so we wasted most of our dinners--if it had been edible we could have at least had leftovers for lunch the next day. Also one of our party had to wait over 5 minutes for his food after the rest of us had been served--and my food was barely warm. If I don't wake up in the middle of the night with food poisoning I will call it a miracle. Oh I could go on and on, but the point is--go to Bandana's or some other BBQ chain but never go here. I took my boys to Pennies BBQ this past weekend as a ""treat"" for their great report cards. We will not be going back. The staff, including management, was incredibly RUDE. Warning....\r We were in Penny's Saturday night. My husband and I live in Bridgeton, but we have always felt it's worth the trip to Penny's once a month.\r \r In the middle of the meal, We heard screaming, cursing, and throwing of pans. My heart leaped into my throat, and I couldn't eat. When our waitress came out, the owner passed her and yelled out, ""That goes for you too!""\r \r I asked her what on earth was going on. She said he's a horrible man to work for and he treats them all that way, all the time. Decided to try this today with the work lunch crowd as we're BBQ fans - not impressed by any means. The bbq sauce is WAY too sweet - if you like brown sugar mixed with red dye and a little water - this is your place - the sauce was sweeter than my applesauce!! The will not separate checks - and add 18% gratuity on for 5 or more people - but rude staff are included free of charge and are doled out generously. It's not smoked meat - so not real BBQ IMHO - and the meat is drenched, swimming etc in this sauce. The baked beans seem out of a can - applesauce was almost tasteless. Avoid at all costs if you like BBQ - this should not be ranked #4 in St. Louis for Citysearch's 2006 Best BBQ restaurants. I will say the portion size was nice...
