Delicious and Wide Variety of Italian Food 4/14/2006

This is the premier Italian grocery story in the strip in Pittsburgh. The vast selection of cheese, meats and Italian foods makes it the place to be when purchasing authentic Italian foods. I usually go and pick up some spicy green olives and fontinella cheese. The barrells of olive oil that they have in the store are a feast for the eyes and the mouth. A word of advice: If you are planning to visit during the holiday season, expect long lines and lots of festive people! This Italian store is THAT good! more

great italian food 3/22/2006

The Pennsylvania Macaroni company has by far the best Italian cuts of meat and cheese. I go there one the weekend to pick up salami and cheese for when family come over. The people who work there are some of the best, they create such a wonderful atmosphere. The place is always packed on the weekends so if you go, make sure you go as early as you can. They also get fresh bread from the beadworks everyday so that’s another plus for them. more

Best. Italian Store. Ever. 11/13/2005

This place has everything. And everything is reasonably priced. What more could you want? I go here to get pasta, bread, (some) produce, deli meats and cheeses, etc etc. This is a great place to get supplies for a business or just food for your own home. I couldn't recommend it any higher. more

Cheese, Glorious Cheese 8/20/2005

There is a lot of great stuff at Penn Mac: cured meats, breadworks bread, fresh pasta, bulk herbs, olive oils, etc.,. The thing that'll keep you coming back is the cheese. It's all good: aged Asiago, Buffalo Mozzarella, Vermont Chevre, Drunken Goat, Roquefort, Bucheron, Farmer's, Stilton, and even Marscapone for your Tiramisu. Good stuff. more

More Than Macaroni 8/19/2005

I never realized how big this place is. Of course they sell macaroni and pastas but they are so much more. They sell fresh bread and the best cheese. The cheese counter is huge and they sell imported and domestic cheeses. They have more variety of cheese than I have ever seen in one place. I don't think I knew there were so many types. The place smells great. They also have fruits and vegetables. They are the only place I have seen that sells olive oil in bulk. They have a big container of it and they have bottles you can poor it into or you can bring your own to refill. It is a great price for olive oil. If you use a lot of it I highly recommend trying this. more
