This is the best dental office I've ever been to (including NYC) and I'm glad a coworker recommended her after I moved to Portland.\r Dr. Mika is professional, warm and thorough. Her office is super clean, she's got modern equipment and she caused me no pain when she did a filling. Pearl District Dental by Phyllis Melmon Martinez at Citysearch I've been a patient at Pearl District Dental for more than 10 years, and like some of the wonderful testimonies I read I wanted to add my positive reflections. The whole staff, Eli, Megan, Marjan, Rhea and of course Dr Mika have been absolutely wonderful to me. No question, they have saved my teeth, when I first walked into the office my mouth was kind of a mess. All through the years, they have been attentive, kind, very responsive, And, clearly skilled beyond compare, in my opinion. I cannot say enough about Dr Mika's skill. I have a beautiful smile now (for an old lady) and Marjan is so competent, gentle, the finest hygenist in my experience. I have such absolute confidence in Pearl Dental, I never worry that what is being done is appropriate and in my interests. I have been Dr. Mika Miyamoto’s patient since I moved to Portland six years ago. I have always had good dentists and have high expectations. Dr. Mika Miyamoto met and exceeded any expectations I had! I have also had extensive dental work done: bonding on my two upper front teeth, cracked back tooth, and fillings, as well as general cleanings, x-rays, etc. so I feel confident in recommending her for any work you need done. Dr. Mika has an excellent chair-side manner. She takes time to get to know you before getting to know your teeth. Her work is exemplary! And she continues to stay atop of field by continually attending the best training seminar all over the world. Dr. Mika has also hired people underneath her (office staff, hygienists) who are as competent in their roles as she is. If you need a dentist or are not completely satisfied with you current dentist, try Dr. Mika! You will not be sorry! more

Let me preface this with I have not been to the dentist for 3 years and although the dentist that I was seeing before was very good, this office visit was an ""Experience!!"". From the moment that you walk into the door and are greeted by Sasha who ""never has a bad day"" to when you go in to see Marjan the hygenist, you will understand how Dr. Miyamoto’s staff treats you to a wonderful patient experience. Coming from a healthcare background, I can say that they go above and beyond to make their patients feel very comfortable. Let's move on to the cleaning. Marjan was wonderful! She took the time to explain everything that she was doing, she let me know my tooth rating, the computer at the chairside to me is also very helpful for the patient to visualize how their teeth look and what teeth are affected and need work. Marjan took time to go over the xrays, and where I need to focus for my next visit. When Dr. Miyamoto came in, she had time to discuss all my treatment options and gave her recommendations. At the end of the visit, Sasha took the time to explain the estimate of my insurance coverage and my treatment plan. After a few visits, I am sure I will give them five stars, but so far, I have been very impressed. \r You too will really enjoy your experience with Dr. Miyamoto, her team and their patient centric approach. more

I saw Dr. Mika Miyamoto many times starting about five years ago. The first appointment, I had a severe toothache in one of my molars that I neglected for several months. I saw two other dentists before and they both said the tooth needed to have a root canal. As I am a dental chicken, I put this off for a while. Finally, when the pain got bad, I called Dr. Mika on a referall from a co-worker and I was seen the same day. (She is a Japanese dentist who can help me in my native language :) Dr. Mika took care of my tooth and actualy did a procedure that saved the tooth from needing a root canal. I was very happy with that. Also she was very extremely gentle, understanding, and did not give me a lecture. She did stress the importance of taking care of my teeth and put me on a programme to correct my teeth and gum condition. \r \r I know many people come here to look for a good dental clinic. I would recommend seeing Dr. Mika without any hesitation. more

I have been a patient with Dr. Mika Miyamoto at Pearl District Dental for the last 3 years. She is by far the best dentist I have ever been to!!!! Her staff is 5 star quality all the way. I highly reccomend her to anyone, and if my family lived in this area they will all be going to her as well. Now that I have to move to Chicago I wish I could take his whole office with me too! more

I went to see Dr. Mika Miyamoto at Pearl District Dental about three weeks ago for the first time and she was the most amazing Dentist I ever met She is very honest, caring fun person. she doesn't push you into anything like most dentists do. My previous dentist did a bad job of cleaning and filling my tooth But dr Miyamoto fixed their mess and she was very gentle. Her chair side manners were great. She is a dedicated dental professional and a warm and caring individual and I am no longer more afraid to go to the dentist. also her staffs are great. Megan , dental assistant - very calm, friendly, and makes your feel good , receptionist Sasha is also very nice, good customer service. Also I like the fact that it's a small clinic and Dr Miyamoto is the only dentist there so you will be seen by the same dentist , same assistant and same hygienist everytime you visit. Without hesitation, I highly recommend Dr. Miyamoto and the entire Pearl District Dental team. more

I am in healthcare myself, but I must admit, I never really liked going to the dentist. My husband and I were recommended to Dr. Miyamoto-Shemali's clinic from one of our friends who has been a patient at Pearl District Dental for several years. Initially, I was very impressed with the layout of the office. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. As a new patient, the experience begins when you first walk in the door. That is all very important to me. My anxieties were diminished as I was brought to the back and met the staff. I also recieved a tour of the office!! Very nice touch!! The hygienist is very professional and friendly. You feel like they create a family environment. Dr. Shemali has awesome bedside manner and is very professional and friendly as well. I was able to have all my questions/concerns answered and explained and did not feel like my service was rushed. I have since had several fillings and one crown and my mouth has never felt better. \r I must add that Dr. Shemali made me aware of my problem with clenching and grinding which has wrecked havoc on my teeth, not to mention the consistent headaches that I've been getting. I have since been fitted with a special type of night applicance and it has made a world of difference. I will definitely make Dr. Shemali my dentist of choice as long as I am in Portland and would highly recommend her services. GO TO THE OREGON BOARD OF DENTISTRY and see the DISCIPLINARY ACTION on 23 Allegations to include ""making an untrue statement to the Board"". AVOID ""The detailed complete workups"" that are suppose to include an 1 and 1/2 evaluation with this Dentist. All the pictures, molds, evaluations, and ""Special tendon and joint workups"" that is suppose to do and YOU DO NOT GET is a farce. AND I FELL FOR IT 2 TIMES. NEVER had an appointment with the Dentist the first time. Just a 22 minute over the front counter of general stuff the Dr. will look at with the evaluation FROM THE DR's Husband who is the office manager. Never got the 3rd one as well as the OFFICE CANCELLED my appts 3X on me, saying they the 1) Dr. had not started my evaluation, 2) She has not coordinated therapy yet for proper evaluation with my orthodontists. Was promised a 3rd time with an appt and they wanted to reschedule that saying ""The Dr will work all weekend long while she watches her children"" (Husband was in Lebanon, middle east"". After this, we canceled the VISA payment as we were getting the run around AGAIN. Now they are trying to obtain payment on something they only produced AFTER I transfered my care to a different Dr's. office. LOOK UP THE BOARD ACTIONS AGAINST THIS DENTIST OVER A GOOD PERIOD OF TIME. 22 Unacceptable Patient Care and 1 Untrue statement to the Board. CONTACT THE BOARD at 971-673-3200 and ask for Inspector Paul if you feel you have had bad treatment, inappropriate billing, or simply paid for treatment that you never received in a timely fashion. Watch how often they put Arestin disks in your mouth, how often they want you to do bitewings and full mouth xrays, and MAKE SURE YOU WATCH HOW THEY BILL YOUR INSURANCE (regular cleaning versus periodontal cleaning versus actual scaling/root planing). She was written up for violations from 2003-2005 and Untruthful Statement to Board on 2005-2007 License Renewal. Bad situation when the office manager is the Dentists' husband and he is the one that promotes the ""Specialized tendon/joint manipulation case studies"". He should not be the one given you medical information/opinions and also showing other patient's pictures on the computer showing what they can do for you. more

I had the pleasure of temporarily filling in for the hygienist at the Pearl District Dental. This is a very welcoming practice that focuses on preventative dentistry. The office staff was very helpful, each would go above and beyond to answer my questions and those patients had. The hygienist took the time to review charts with me, and answered any questions to insure patients would feel comfortable with the transition. Patient care is first and foremost. Dr. Mika takes the time to fully assess every new patient, and offers recommendations that best benefit the patient. Her continuous education allows her to properly answer any questions/concerns patients may have about their dental care. I often find disconnects between the dentist and the hygienist when it comes educating patients on their restorative needs, versus their periodontal needs. I find it respectable that Dr. Mika continues to stress the importance of educating patients on periodontal disease and its contributing factors. This team -oriented practice offers the highest standard of care and fits the needs of many. I recommend this practice because it is one that will take the time to inform. The comfort begins when you walk in the door and are greeted by smiling faces and a beautiful ambiance. more

Dr. Mika Miyamoto has been my general dentist since I moved to Portland six years ago and I couldn't be happier with her work. She has dealt with some very complex restoration challenges, including multiple implant crowns and restoring my entire mouth from old amalgam fillings etc. and done a superb job with inlays and crowns. Her crowning achievement is to replace a crown on my front tooth (I've been told these are the hardest to do) and she did an amazing job. The result is always perfectly matched and natural, and I was involved every step of the way in deciding what to do and when. The cost is on the higher end but well worth it - I once researched it and when you focus on the ""difference"" it is worth it. Simply put, Dr. Miyamoto is an artist. The staff is professional and supportive, and Marjen is a welcome addition as a dedicated and very competent hygienist. Dr. Miyamoto's work is of the highest quality, and I would recommend her without hesitation to someone who care about high quality work for their teeth. more

Wow! There is so much to say about this dentist. You walk into the office and can feel the positive energy. Every member of the staff makes it a priority for you to be comfortable, relaxed, and well cared for. Attention to detail is phenomenal. What makes this office so special is that the doctor and every staff member really make you feel welcome and it’s very personal. The confidence of each member of the staff is re-assuring and each of the staff is very considerate. As far as the treatment, it is so reliable. I’ve had a crown done and it is the best dental experience I’ve ever had – I knew up front exactly what was going on and the crown feels fantastic – goodbye broken down old filling. My wife did Invisalign treatment with them and her teeth are looking awesome. I'm very glad to have made the switch to Dr. Miyamoto’s office. The work is top notch and only the best. I DID NOT SCHEDULE A FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT!!!This dentist had so many coding errors in billing and issued a very bad mouth guard piece - billed as a full mouth guard on and on- I even reported the issues to ODS! So I had no intention of going back - and had already seen another dentist. All that and they actually billed me for a missed appointment! I had no intention of going back - called them immediately and told them I had already seen another dentist and certainly made no future appt with Mika. They just kept billing - ""sent the next 2 bills back as incorrect billing- no appointment made""- -Now I am fed up= over a year later I am still getting a bill for an appointment I never made! This is disrespectful -they are wasting paper and postage. I have reported them to BBB, ODS, and now am writing reviews to let people know they unethical and unprofessional. Good luck if you ever quit going - they will send you a ""Bill"" reminder. E. more

Since I moved to Portland over 5 yrs ago, Dr Mika and her staff have provided me with excellent dental care. I've had my share of dental problems over the years, including invisalign treatment to straighten my teeth and the replacement of old fillings with porcelain crowns, and I have been completely satisfied with the results. Dr Mika is a true expert in the field of dentistry and she will go above and beyond to take care of her patients. Her staff is very friendly, attentive and extremely helpful when it comes to dealing with insurance companies. I know I can trust Dr. Mika and her staff. This place is seriously awesome, which feels bizarre to say about a dental office, but they deserve it. \r First, the office is extremely modern and clean. The office staff was so friendly and helpful that it is clear customer service is stressed in the office. When I first arrived, I was escorted to a private room where I drank complimentary coffee while I filled out the new patient paperwork. \r During my actual cleaning, the hygenist was again extremely nice and went out of her way to thoroughly answer the handful of questions I had about some recent sensitivity. It is obvious that they use very high-tech, new equipment throughout the office and the actual cleaning was done with a new type of electric cleaner (not the manual metal pics) and it took a fraction of the time, probably 25-33% of the time a traditional cleaning takes, but my teeth were definitely just as clean. \r When the dentist, Dr. Mika, came by she took the time to thoroughly introduce herself, ask me some questions and genuinely showed interest in my dental care instead of rushing in and out. \r Dr Mika has navigated me through an implant procedure that I was initially very anxious about and I'm overjoyed with the results. She and her staff have offered advice and support along the way and I would never have trusted all of this dental work to another dentist\r I have already recommended other people to this office and will never go anywhere else! \r more

Dr. Mika Miyamoto’s office is literally like a state of art experience. First and foremost, Dr. Miyamoto is definitely one of the best dentists in Portland. From the way she performs the procedures and the final success, you can tell her excellence in her field, education and her personal touch in cosmetic work. My husband and I had a few fillings and crowns done; amazing results. Her approach to you as a patient is so relaxing and educative. Her staff also satisfies you with an excellent job on insurance work, explaining the co-pays and procedures cost breakdown. I am extremely satisfied with the work Dr. Mika Miyamoto-Shemali did on my teeth. I moved to Portland about one year ago from the Bay area. I came to her office for the first time in pain and discomfort. A San Francisco dentist, a reputable one, had removed my original crowns in a very painful manner and placed temporary crowns incorrectly, leaving me in a lot of pain. Fortunately, I found Dr. Miyamoto-Shemali. She masterfully and painlessly, removed the incorrectly placed temporaries by the former dentist, placed new temporaries, correcting the bite and fitting of the temporary crowns. The pressure and pain in my gums and teeth were immediately gone. I was able to go to lunch after the procedure with my wife and enjoy eating without pain for the first time in months. My wife and I are so happy with Dr. Miyamoto-Shemali’s work that we have referred all of our friends and family members to her. The office is beautiful, relaxing, and super clean. The staff are professional and accommodating. My permanent crowns which Dr. Miyamoto-Shemali placed look great and are comfortable. My gums have healed. We highly recommend this SUPER DENTIST to every one. We also saved lots of money by not having gotten implants unnecessarily as was recommend by the former dentist. Beware of this dental office. Every dentist is licensed by the governing board of the state in which they practice and this information is available online. Check out what the Board has to say about this dentist. In addition, most places require a day or two advance notice for cancellations. This office loves to make money off of cancelled appointments, even during the winter months when some of us get the flu and have to cancel a dental appointment. This office requires that you know of that impending illness a week in advance or else you are going to be charged a costly fee, even if it is the your first visit. Not even a warning are a review of their office policy. I have found a new dentist and plan to stay away from Pearl District Dental. Pros: Poor Business Practices Cons: Poor Dental Practices more

My old dentist retired and his replacement was less then stellar. I was forced to find another dentist to finish my treatment plan. I made an appointment with Dr. Mika at Pearl District Dental and was impressed from the minute I met her. She took her time in looking over my teeth and gave me what she thought was the best plan for my mouth. Her treatment plan was 10000 times better then what the old dr suggested (He wanted to remove some of my teeth and give me a partial.) I wasnt comfortable with this but thought it was the only way. When Dr. Mika took a look she said you dont need your teeth removed, lets fill them and thats what we have begun. She's very honest and tells you like it is. When she administed the anestisia I didnt feel a thing and usually after a dentist appt your teeth throb from being worked on, I was shocked that I didnt feel a thing after she was done. I'm actually excited to go to her office and get the work done I needed. You will not be dissapointed.\r If you are looking for a drive through dentist who you see for 5 mins and hes gone again then try someone else, but if you are looking for a dentist who truly cares about what she's doing then try Dr Mika.
