Pavilion At John Knox Village

\r \r *** ALERT *** (December 3, 2013)\r \r I have erased my previous comment, which was favorable while my mom was in Independent Living. Now, it's a different story:\r \r My mother has since that time moved through John Knox's ""system"" to their Care Center. IT'S BEEN A NIGHTMARE AND I DON'T RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE!!! Since her decline in health and memory, she is now at the mercy of short staff, nurses who are NOT on top of their game, and a director over the Memory Care Unit who is over zealous when we are there to see our mother, but as fake as a 3 dollar bill. The unit smells awful of urine and negligent care is rampant. Twice we have found our mother by herself, in bed soaked in urine and feces, open bedsores with no barrier cream on to protect her skin, writhing in pain and crying out for help and the door was shut tight and the room was pitch black in the afternoon. We have brought in KC Hospice to have additional care given to our mother, but when they aren't around our mom is left to what we have seen as the ""norm"" for all of the poor residents in this wing. \r Health and Human Services has been made aware of the conditions there and plan on doing a surprise inspection at any time now. We are going to proceed with whatever means are necessary to be advocates for all who are not being taken care of properly.\r We DO NOT recommend the Care Center. While John Knox was wonderful for the Independent living, they also drained our mom's bank account and now she depends on Medicare, Medicaid and a gap plan to cover her needs. Once the money runs out and the residents are transferred to this (non) Care Center, the staff cares very little about our loved ones.\r Pros: Attentive, and friendly employees in the retirement villa's more

Care center is an awful place to send your worst enemy let alone a loved one! Facility is dirty and has roach problems. It is also woefully understaffed and can be extremely hard to find nurses when you need them. It seems that there is a high turnover rate for the nursing staff, as soon as you find someone that does a very good job, they leave. John Knox has false pretenses of being nice due to their retirement community and assisted living apartments. DO NOT be fooled!!! Both the community and apartments are nice with many wonderful accommodations, however, if your loved one were to progress to the care center you would be very disappointed in what you would find. Please take note, this nursing home wears a mask to disguise it's true colors of caring. Lack of leadership from the top and the facility is not clean. Far and few between good nurses, seems the good ones leave (indicator) and absolutely the worst administrative team (lack of) assembled in a high profile \r scenic profession. Be aware, terrible care and treatment for our elderly. more
