Overhyped and underwhelming. Loud, long wait, bland food, boring wine list, uninspired staff. Anyone with a cable connection could make their pastas after watching just an hour ...

Horrible Service and Loooong wait! 8/1/2010

My boyfriend and I visited the nw 23rd location for the Sunday Dinner option excited to try a new place with affordable prices. We ordered our drinks and dinner from the waitress then waited a solid 10 min before our drinks arrived. Another 30 min passed before our salad and soup were brought out - all the while not hearing or seeing our waitress once. 45 minutes into our dinner our pasta finally arrived - not from our waitress but from a random waitress who put our food on the table and a refill of my drink (which was water with lemon) however she mistakenly gave me an iced tea. when I corrected her mistake, she brought me a glass of water. I asked for a lemon and a straw - she came back holding my straws with her bare hands and then stuck them inside my glass and walked away. We sat and ate for a few minutes - my boyfriend asked the waitress for a glass of water (once she finally made her way over to the table behind us) 15 min later, no water. When my boyfriend asked her again she apologized and then finally got the water 5 min later. An hour into our dinner of being ignored and treated like we were a bother to the wait staff my boyfriend and I got our food boxed up and asked for our dessert to go. We had no interest in staying at Pastini's any longer than we needed to. We paid the bill minus the tip and left. I understand that restaurants get busy and thus the wait staff is spread thin - but asking your customer how their food is, or if they need anything should go with the territory of serving others - while expecting a tip. I wish I could say we'd be back - but this experience has really soured our perception of Pastini's. The prices are cheap, but I'd rather pay more to actually be treated like a valid customer. If you have an hour and a half to spare, don't want to be bothered and aren't too concerned about when your food or drink will arrive at your table - then head on down. Otherwise take your business elsewhere. Pros: Pasta and Bread taste good Cons: Ignored by waitress, long wait for food, not getting drinks more

Love the food 3/3/2010

We were in NW Portland the other night and decided to eat at Pastini's. We were so glad we did! The pricing, portions and the taste were the best we have had in ages. The specials Pastini offers plus the wine choices are superb. We didn't even select one of their specials as we wanted to try everything! Great for the person wanting authentic Italian food, the vegetarian and the gluten free patrons! Keep up the good work! Pros: Pricing and choices more

Love this place! 3/3/2010

I have to say I love this place! It's one of my favorite restaurants to eat at and was very disappointed when my husband and I started a new workout/meal plan because rich, creamy pasta wasn't on the list. So, I started to look at the other foods the restaurant provided and now I'm in love with their salads! Who would have known that by cutting back on pasta I'd find a whole new world of delicious salads that did fit my meal plan. And, I must say, it's very hard to find a healthy, flavorful salad to eat quickly on my lunch break. Thank you Pastini! Pros: Lots of choices no matter what you're looking for Cons: parking more

Local Eatery is a Winner 3/2/2010

We had a great time at Pastini! We were greeted and seated right away. The food came out in a timely manner and the server came back to ensure that we had everything we needed. I had the Spinach Salad which was delicious with the Butternut Squash Ravioli dish. A green salad and classic spaghetti and meatballs were perfect too! We love coming to Pastini for the cozy and clean atmosphere, the price (most pasta dishes are about $9!) the great food and warm service. A terrific Portland restaurant. Pros: Excellent Food, Price & Service more

Great Pasta at a Great Price 1/11/2010

Walked by and was drawn in by the smell... I started off with a ceasar salad-made just right-not over done w/ dressing. For my dinner I had the Lamb Sungo-I was 2nd guessing myself about this dish(not really a big lamb eater) untill I took my first bite. The lamb had lots of flavor and very tender. I was too full for dessert, but I be back again. Pros: Great food at a great price more

Normally Fabulous 11/19/2009

Delicious Italian Food w/ LARGE portions! 7/10/2009

My second trip to Pastini was as successful as my first visit. I had previously visited their Bridgeport location and this trip to their NW locale was just as satisfying. The menu items and attentive service exceeded my expectations. As a Portland newbie, I?m thrilled to discover an Italian restaurant that has the perfect ambience for both a family dinner, a business lunch or drinks and cocktails with friends on the weekend. Pastini definitely has combined all of these attributes into one restaurant, and the best thing about it is their multiple locations all around PDX! Our business lunch with a group of 5 started off by sampling a little bit of everything on the menu. We tried the Roasted Garlic-Artichoke Spread with Bruschetta for our appetizer, and it was 100% garlicky-Italian goodness. The food that was served was as good as if we were visiting a fine dining establishment ? but for LESS than half the price! The portions were large, and I ended up boxing half of my delicious Linguine Pesto Pollo entr?e to-go, to take as leftovers for dinner. Pastini is definitely one of the best, most versatile Italian Bistros in Portland and I would highly recommend taking friends, family and out-of-town guests to enjoy the dining experience! Pros: fast service, ambience, tasty food, full bar, free parking, Cons: nothing - the restaurant is perfect! more

Always reliable, tasty, hot, fast, and the best Gin and Tonic in town! 9/30/2008

My husband would rather eat here than anyplace in town. It's always great, great service, hot meals, quick, and the best Gin and Tonic in town!!! And under $40 each time! Always great! Pros: hot, quick, great service, make changes without hesitation, great value Cons: None! more

YUM! 9/7/2008

Great Service. Great Food. Great Wine Selection. One of my favorite places to eat in Portland. Check it out. more

Good for Lunch 6/5/2008

Went here w/a girlfriend for lunch the other day, we both had salads and they were great. The quality of the chicken was really good and the for the price we paid, the size of the salads were great. You definitely get your money's worth. I have also been to the location on NE Broadway for dinner, and I felt the portions could have been larger (esp if you call ahead and pick it up). This isn't the greatest Italian you've ever had but it's not bad. Kind of a ""fast food"" Italian spot. more

bad food 5/13/2008

Lets start off by saying I gave this place two chances. Yes, it is cheap but the quality of the food is pretty low par. It feels like you are eating in some kind of generic Starbucks meets faux-Italian place....worse than Olive Garden. They didn't offer bread until I asked and the unfriendly waitress just pointed to the menu and said ""that costs extra."" I got the buccatini carne pasta or whatever and it was dry and had no flavor at all not to mention it came out in like 5 minutes (pre-made and then slopped in a bowl obviously). After we got our food the waitress disappeared and never refilled out water so we had to flag down the hostess to do that. If you are on a budget i'd say go to Pizzacato instead. Pros: cheap Cons: everything else more

Love to order to go- Fast too! 3/20/2008

I have been ordering lunch to go and it is excellent! They always make sure you have your silverware and fresh bread. I call it in before I walk over and it's always ready in 10-15 minutes. Reasonably priced too. more

best italian 11/17/2007

I have been to Pastini many times with coworkers, friends and we always had good experience. Prepare for some delays on work day lunch if you have big groups. Service and the good quality was always good. Pros: ambience, food, service Cons: sometimes delays with big groups more

Spectacular food for a very low price! 8/9/2007

What a great place. I was surprised how affordable it was despite it's location at the upscale Bridgeport Village. I was there with a large group of friends and we all ordered something different and tried eachothers food and everything was great. The best, hands down, was the seafood cannolli thing. (I think that is what is called) It was basically a manicotti noodles stuffed with halibut, scallops and crab...and strange combination but incredible!! The portions were on the larger side. The wait staff was quick, efficient and very kind. Pros: Great food, great staff, great price. Cons: Long wait in the evenings and no reservations allowed....minimal beer choices. more

Good food, good price (for the most part) 8/8/2007

I have gone there a few times for take out with my girlfriend. The value and the food has always been excellent except for their soups. The soup portions are very very very very small. Our take out order of soup didn't even fill the small container even though we got the ""bowl"" instead of the ""cup."" We were told that it's one ladle of soup for the cup, and 2 ladles for the bowl. I feel sorry for whomever gets the cup and thinks they accidently drained 2/3rds of it on the walk home. Everything else has been great so i can't fault them too much. Just realize that for the price, the soup portions are very very small. Being on 23rd though, it is pretty cheap for pretty good food. You won't be wowed by it, but for how much you're paying, it's really quite good. Pros: entrees, price Cons: value of soup more

APPALLING Customer service 7/24/2007

My husband's family and I ( a big party of 15) went to the Pastini Pasteria downtown 9 located 911 SW Taylor at 9th Avenue last sunday (I couldn't find the restaurant downtown on citysearch so I thought I would just write the the review here.) My husbands' family is from out of state and we were all just trying to have a good time. We ordered our drinks, everyone was served after a while, except for my mother-in-law who had to remind the waitress of her drink, all the kids said that they had to remind the waitress about their refills for their soda. The waitress acted like she was so so busy, when there was actually only 2 other couples in the restaurant besides us, and other waitresses. Anyway, I am not writing a bad review about the food at this place. EVERYBODY loved their food, it was so yummy. But we were REALLY DISAPPOINTED by the service and the bald tattooed manager who worked there. He came to tell us to lower our voice, when the other two couples in the restaurant had actually already left and we we were the only ones in the restaurant. He was obnoxious and rude, and kept hanging around our table listening to our conversations. It is A REAL SHAME, because we really loved the food, but WOULD NEVER GO BACK THERE just for the people that work there. Plus, we had to wait AGES for our check, they were very incapable !! Pros: good food Cons: Atrocious manager and incapable waitresses, bad restaurant to dine with a large group. more

My first pick for Italian in Portland!! 5/7/2007

This is the only location I have been to and I always have a great experience!! There is never too long of a wait and the servers are always very friendly! My favorite appetizer is the Bruschetta Classico. My favorite pastas are Ziti Di Campagna and Rigatoni Zuccati. I've tried all the desserts and I could never pick a favorite. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are perfect. Not too much... Not too little. This isn't the place you wanna go if you like to leave stuffed. I've introduced many of my friends to Pastini and they always love it and request to go back again. Pros: Great Service, Fantastic food Cons: Parking in NW is never easy more

Hoorray'ves for Pastini 1/31/2007

Consistently good food and great service at a reasonable price. My family has been going there for some time and we never walk out dissapointed. This place knows what they do well and they stick to it. My favorites are the fusilli della Roma, their lasagna is heavenly and the soup is always excellent - make sure you like to combination first. Appetizers are actually appetizing and their salads are first quality. Pros: great italian at a reasonable price Cons: extras can add to cost more

Good sauces, overcooked pasta... 12/21/2006

I'm Italian therefore I know ""my pastas""...the sauces are great but the pasta is overcooked therefore try asking for ""al dente""cooking..I'm not going back because I can make it better at home.. Pros: sauces Cons: overcooked pasta,so so atmosphere more
