Best

This is the only place I go see my movies, it's big, beautiful, love the crowds, I've been coming here for a few years, and honestly, watch one film here and you'll see. Pros: ...

Worst

Although these theatres are fancy with plush seats they have made an embarressment of their employees. They force them to wear overdone costumes with hats that only an organ grind...

Beautiful Venue But A DIRTY mess 9/28/2010

Hey guys, do you think you could sweep the floors or wipe up the dripping butter from the counter? I work a lot harder for my money these days and I find it insulting that the Grove Theatre can take $25 bucks for two movie tickets and not be bothered to even clean the basics. I like the Grove but I think it is time to find a new theatre. more

Not cool 7/26/2009

I didn't like the mall nor the movie theatres here, amazing sick crowds Pros: its near a mall Cons: Parking is bad more

Late Showtimes 1/12/2009

The Pacific Theatres is a convenient and classy venue. Located at the Grove, you can mesh your shopping experience with seeing a great new film. The prices are expensive by comparison, however, the experience is practically unmatched. Comfortable chairs, a mature audience, and food/drinks to buy and enjoy during the film. more

The only Place I go see my movies 12/26/2008

This is the only place I go see my movies, it's big, beautiful, love the crowds, I've been coming here for a few years, and honestly, watch one film here and you'll see. Pros: everything Cons: the prices of movies on weekend nights more

Perfect destination if looking to do dinner and a movie 6/1/2008

Movies are expensive everywhere these days. That said, I really like the movie theater at the Grove. There?s a good selection at the concession stand of candy, popcorn and other snacks. Inside the theaters themselves, the stadium seating is helpful for better viewing, the sound systems enhance the movie experience and the seats are so plush and comfy. Also, validation from the theater will pretty much cover parking unless your movie was super long. The main reason in my opinion though to pick the Grove theaters are the number of high-quality restaurants within walking distance. The theater helps the Grove become a great spot to do the "dinner and a movie" night out. Pros: audio system, stadium seating, comfy chairs, good selection of movies Cons: price more

WORST RUN THEATER EVER 11/24/2007

DONT GO HERE - WORST THEATER EXPERIENCE EVER ! love the grove for shopping, but do not go to the movies there! they have rules that will make your head spin, staff is rude, this place is managed so poorly, for all the hudreds of people who go to see a movie they are all herded through 1 ticket collector (even on sat night) and you cant go in untill right before your film starts, not even to the bathroom, seriously the most poorly managed visitor experience of any public space that can ruin even the best of dates. o yeh and the movies cost more after 7pm , yet the service is still the same horrid experience! Pros: none Cons: control freaks who dont care about the movie goer only about $$$$ more

Awesome concessions, nice screens 11/23/2007

The theatres at The Grove are probably the 2nd best in the Hollywood area. The seats are comfortable, the movie selection amazing, and the convenience of the self-help concessions crazy nice (why don't other theatres do this?). The lines can get long if you try to involve a human helper, so skip straight to the self-help ticket machines. Inside, the lobby is a high-ceiling'd beauty. The Grove location can lead to parking problems, so don't go in circles too long and just go straight for valet (hey, it's Hollywood). And afterwards, take some time to enjoy the outdoor mall too. A-OK in my book. Pros: Self-help concessions ordering Cons: Parking nightmare more

PACKED-Get there early!!! 11/19/2006

It's super crowded on the wkends but I guess it's a nice theater. I mean what theater doesn't have seats, popcorn, people talking while the movie is playing? It is stadium seating but I'm not sure it's anything spiffy. more

Ultimate theater 10/30/2006

This is an amazing theater. Yeah, tickets are ridiculously expensive, but what's new. This is a great spot to bring guests visiting LA. Pros: Beautiful & in the Grove Cons: tix are $$ more

Old Hollywood style filled with ultra-hip urbanites 6/28/2006

The Grove is a decadent place to watch a film. Though initially it's easy to get discouraged by the ridiculous ticket prices, it's even easier to sink into the bucket-like seats and forget about any and all woes. The screens in the bigger theaters are like IMax's. Fork over more than a hour of minimum wage and get lost in the movies. Pros: Great seats, screen size Cons: High admission prices more

ORGAN GRINDER MONKEYS 1/27/2006

Although these theatres are fancy with plush seats they have made an embarressment of their employees. They force them to wear overdone costumes with hats that only an organ grinders monkey would wear. The tickets are over priced, barely affordable on the weekends. Yes they sell out ..BUT.. they are the ONLY theatre worth going to in that area. The parking is a royal pain and a MINIMUM of $2.00, often more. Traffic in and out is horrendous. TOURIST, TOURIST CAN YOU SAY TOURIST TRAP??? Really not worth the effort to go here. Pros: plush seating, stadium theatre Cons: pricing, access more

Whats up with the thermostat???? 10/31/2005

The grove is unparallelled in the upscale look of the place inside and out of the individual theaters. It`s pricey, but many features make it worth the extra couple dollars. My only gripe, albeit a big one, about this place is it is FREEZING inside the theaters. 5 min after the movie commences, cold air is blown in your face thoughout the movie. Iv`e even complained during the movie and was told that other patrons had just complained and the "problem" would be fixed etc etc. It never gets "fixed". This has happened to me more than 5 times Matinees are just too cold to sit through. Can`t even imagine taking an elderly person or child into a theater this cold. Too bad they don`t listen to feedback about the temerature...because otherwise it would be a fantastic theater. Pros: roomy seats, clean Cons: cold, unresponsive staff more

Tourist trap, beware 8/30/2004

I live next door to the Grove and have been to this theater at least a dozen times. Months ago I swore never to return. Why? How about lines 100s of people long outside on opening days for every showing, $11.50 for most night movie times, sell outs almost every Friday and Saturday, and even if you wait in one of those terrible lines for an hour and sprint to the theater you often get pushed aside and get crummy seats. Never again. Go to Arclight and reserve your individual seats on the web or by phone and save $0.50 at the premium theater! Pros: Nicely Appointed, Good Sound and Video Cons: , Bad crowd control, Ultra expensive! more

Date Spot 7/9/2003

The theater is very nice...Take a date kinda pricy but worth it...comfy seats...great retro theater look.. Pros: Nice, clean Cons: parking, pricy more

Life at the movies. 4/15/2003

This theater is incredible. It has an old theater charm like the Kodak. The prices are close to most theaters but the atmosphere is the reason to pay a little more. The seats are nice and cozy and if the movie you are watching includes the VIP lounge area it's a splended view from the top. There is also always a chance of star watching. Pros: nice seats,, great treatment,, nice atmosphere Cons: bthrms dirty,, parking more

thumbs up :) 3/21/2003

one of the best movie theatres in LA...i really enjoyed the love seats and the beautiful interior of the theatre lobby. service is great and its never too crowded. great for a date with friends or a significant other...especially if you linger around the water fountain before or after the movie Pros: love seats, not crowded, clean Cons: movie selection, some small theatres, no student discounts more

BEst theater in the country 2/7/2003

I've been to the bridge, to the arclight -- THE GROVE IS THE BEST THEATER IN THE COUNTRY. If you want giant screens, super sound -- this is it. This theater is the ulimate movie going experience. If only their concessions matched the theater. more

old timer 1/30/2003

I find your theater at the Grove very comfortable, the screen great, but what I find the greatest convenience is that people can get by without falling or stepping on the seated person. The biggest difference is however the fact that people in front of the viewer are seated much lower and consequently don't bother the people behind. All together a great theater. Pros: comfortable, great screen, good atmosphere more

Simply The Best 1/15/2003

The new Grove Theaters are the best movie theaters to go to in L.A.! Pros: Good Parking, Comfortable seats Cons: Sells Out more

Retro charm 12/22/2002

Loved this theater! I hear for $2 extra a ticket you can have leather recliner seats with food service. Can't wait to try it out! The regular seats are great. The theater has a retro feel that transports you to a different era. Highly recommend this theater and the mall (The Grove) to all. Pros: Excellent atmosphere Cons: expensive more

Editorial

  • The Scene
After a day amid the hustle and bustle of the Grove's urban shopping village, this art deco-inspired movie palace is a perfect respite. The 14-screen complex pays tribute to the grand theaters of early Los Angeles with a lobby that resembles a four-star hotel and white-gloved ushers outfitted in bellhop attire.

    The Draw
This theater has plenty of style, but it doesn't sacrifice the modern amenities moviegoers demand. All theaters feature panoramic, curved screens, cutting-edge sound systems and spacious stadium seating. Lines are usually manageable because of the many ticket-selling kiosks located throughout the mall.
