Editorial review from Citysearch 2/21/2014

My husband and I moved in July 15, 2013. At first, great experience. We didn't love our apartment, the AC didn't really work and we're pretty sure all of the hot water pipes surround our apartment because it's constantly about 85 degrees and can't cool it off, but whatever. Not the end of the world and we like the complex in general. Any time we had any maintenance issues they were here immediately, extremely professional, and very nice. Then we started having issues with the plumbing, as did the rest of our building. It wasn't fixed the first time, then they had a professional plumber come out. That still didn't fix it, maintenance came back, couldn't fix it, sent out the plumber again. He warned me that he feared it was a temporary fix and this would be a big job. 2 weeks later, we've had our plumbing ""fixed"" 4 times, the after hours emergency line doesn't do anything, and I've been without a working toilet for several hours on numerous occasions. I am very understanding that this is a bigger problem than a simple clog, and the problem is with the main line. However, I've received absolutely no help or understanding from the office staff. I call and talk to them, ask for a call back, receive nothing. This place is way too overpriced to be treated like that and have plumbing that doesn't work 100% of the time. If they gave us a financial break for our major inconveniences, that would be one thing, but they don't. The office staff has a collective IQ around room temperature. I will reiterate, the location is awesome, the complex itself is very nice and pretty well maintained, and the maintenance staff or awesome. The office staff make this place not worth it and we will now not be renewing our lease. more

Horrible place to live 6/11/2011

I have lived here almost a year and cannot wait to move. The neighbors constantly blast their music at all hours of the night and day and we have complained numerous times to the office and emailed headquarters. We also called the night security company around 18-20 times and the neighbors continue to blast their music till 2 or 3 in the morning. We have a daughter that needs to be in school the next day and still nothing is done about it. Forget about the deadfish the neighbors throw on the sidewalk and nothing is done about that either. Apparently the office will not do anything about this and our only option is to move. Horrible place to live for the price you?re paying and to have nothing done when you have a complaint. more

DO NOT RENT HERE!!! 3/22/2011

Anyone thinking of renting at any UDR property should know how they do business. I?ve been living at the Pacific Shores community in Huntington Beach for 8 months now and have had major issues with them 3 times. On every one of these occasions, they have failed to make amends in any way more than they were absolutely legally required to. The first incident was when I first signed a reservation for an apartment with them. A few hours after signing a reservation for an apartment, I received a call saying that they had already promised the unit to someone else and they would not honor the contract we had signed. I then had to wait three weeks to get an apartment that was in much worse condition than the one I had reserved. This was a major inconvenience as the only reason I chose to move here in the first place was that I needed to move immediately, not wait three weeks for a unit that was completely sub-par compared to the one I was promised. The second incident was when my apartment flooded due to a leak in the foundation about a month ago. I had several hundred dollars worth of property ruined and could not even live in my apartment for three days. I was never offered any compensation for anything and was not even offered a hotel or another unit to stay in while the repairs were being done. It was only after I contacted them that they agreed to take 120 dollars off my rent for the month. That?s all they would pay because my rent breaks down to approximately 40 dollars a day. I was given no compensation for my damaged property, I was not reimbursed for the water (which showed up on my bill), and I was not reimbursed for the two days of lost wages I suffered since I had to be there while they did the repairs. The third incident happened the other night. My car (which has my parking pass in it) was involved in a wreck and taken to a body shop. Since then, I have been driving a rental car. I went to the leasing office and explained my situation and was giving a temporary parking pass. I told them I did not know how long my car would be in the shop but that it would likely be several weeks. I was given a pass for five days. Since I leave for work before their office opens and get off after it closes, I was unable to renew the pass. My rental car was towed without any warning in the middle of the night by a security company working on directions from UDR. I figured I would be fine since the only people that have any reason to park in our parking lot are residents and guests. Why would they tow the cars of their residents, especially when I had explained my situation to them and they knew which car I was driving? Apparently, putting a notice on the car and giving their residents as little as even 12 hours notice was too much of an inconvenience for them. I had to pay 185 dollars to get my car back and was told that they would not reimburse me. Also, this is not an isolated incident. I know of at least three other people that this has happened to in the last week. Every incident I?ve had with UDR has been miserable. They are only willing to help until the point that helping will affect their revenue stream. I strongly discourage anyone from renting at a UDR property unless you want to rent from a company that cares little if any about their residents after they?ve signed a lease. Had I known how they operated before I signed the lease a never would have. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! YOU'RE NOTHING MORE THAN A PAYCHECK TO THEM!!! more
