One of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. The atmosphere is wonderful. The food is superb. Great place to go with a large party or on a romantic date. Must try... Pros:...

Worst

My date wanted to go to Pace so instead of mentioning my previous bad experiences I said sure. We were seated right away, ordered water and waited and waited. Our server finally...

Worst Service in Los Angeles 4/10/2012

I hate writing negative reviews, really, I do. I would rather focus on the things I love about LA. But after last night's experience at Pace, I have no choice. I have eaten at Pace once every two to three months for the past few years. The food is overpriced and completely mediocre (I don't know how they get away with serving pizza that bad in Los Angeles these days), but it's close to my house and the atmosphere is cute. So it was in the rotation. Now I will never return. Our waitress made a significant mistake with our order. When we attempted to remedy the situation, the manager made a tremendous scene. There would have been many ways to fix the situation to everyone's satisfaction, but instead the manager yelled at us and told us that ""if we don't know about wine, we shouldn't order it""! Even after settling on a solution with our table, he returned to yell at us some more and hurtled ridiculous accusations at us (a group of 5 trying to have a nice, quiet birthday dinner for a friend). I've never been treated so poorly by a restaurant staff member in my life. I felt truly terrible that this happened on my friend's birthday and I can certainly never return to an establishment that feels it's acceptable to berate customers. more

Awesomely cool place for dinner 9/6/2009

Everything is home made. Such a Creative menu with the Freshest produce. Fresh baked bread roasted almonds marinated olives and a different nightly veg dipping sauce arrives shortly after being seated. The cedar plank salmon or the white beans are two of my favorite meals. The desserts, unbelievable service and the big bowl of candy always completes a great dinner. My family and I's favorite restaurant. Check it out Pros: Amazing food and wine list Cons: only open for dinner more

My favorite restaurant in LA 4/27/2009

This is my favorite little gem, nestled in the Hollywood Hills. I have always had an amazing experience at this authentic Italian restaurant! The staff is pleasant, and well informed. Service is great, without being overbearing. It's romantic and cozy, and feels like a little villa in Italy. My favorite dishes are the cedar plank salmon, fresh pasta dishes, lasagna, and pizza! You can't go wrong here! To top it off, they have the most decadent desert! MMMMM. This really is a special little place to meet friends, have a date, or take family! Pros: Great authentic food, Ambience Cons: Parking more

Overpriced, mediocre, generic 11/7/2008

Unbelievably overpriced. The food is simply not tasty enough for an average of 30 bucks an entree. My fish was undercooked and just plain not delicious, and presentation was more generic than special. For that price the food really needs to be excellent. Nothing about this place makes up for it either. The crayons at the table, and nice lighting were the only positives. Pros: lighting, wait staff, crayons Cons: overpriced, food more

That said if you enjoy dining to abrasive out-dated club music, being surrounded by overly spray tanned L.A. botox types and feeling important because your porsche is parked in front, then this might be a place to try. Super Lame in the Canyon, not Peace. 7/20/2008

Any discussion of the food is halted due to the level of jerkiness displayed by the General Manager. I think his name is Scott but I'm not sure. First of all, I asked Jerky McJerkison about alternative parking situations since I had some time to wait for my late parents and didn't think of bringing cash for parking in the first place. He first said that it was restricted everywhere and people call all the time about violators and that I should just pay the money and park in the valet. He made it sound like there was nada, and then finally he gave up the fact that right across the street there was parking. I practically had to negotiate for the info. After we were demoted to the worst possible table as punishment for having to push back the reservation, it went downhill more. My Dad got served a $15 glass of wine with what I estimated to be at least a good 1/2 teaspoon of sludge in the bottom of it. Instead of being embarrassed and comping it, the waiter said it was sugar. The GM was very condescending and dramatic about demonstrating the amount of "swirling" normal people usually do to their wine to "mix it up". I dont even like wine but know better than not to serve the ass-end of the bottle at a nice restaurant. He was Mr. Jerkitty Jerkison about it. I have been trying to call what I assumed was a nice owner to just tell them without posting but the owner is never there. Skip this restaurant people. It is not Peace in the Canyon. More like Lame Central in the Canyon. If you want this type of food, you can find better. There's plenty of places where the staff appreciates customers. Maybe this guy was a family member that they had to hire. What a bummer. I had such high hopes for Pace. On a happy note, the blond hostess lady was very nice. Luckily there are tons of restaurants in LA and more then one know their way to the farmers market. Cons: Find another place. more

My new Love 7/19/2008

Went to Pace a few weeks back for the very first time after having it highly recommended to me by my co-workers. My partner and I arrived a bit late and after grabbing a quick glass of proseco at the rustic bar that seats 2 (Part of Pace's charm) we were seating at an inside table on a banquette. After noshing on olives and almonds to go with our J Pinot Noir that the gorgeous and spunky (will probably be a star in a few years) waitress recommended we ordered pizza and pasta. We were going to try to be healthy at first and order the cedar salmon everyone raves about but opted for the peace pizza and the rigatoni with sausage. Both were amazing. Make sure you order their sinful chocolate cake that takes 45 minutes to bake before the meal. The thing that struck my dining companion and me about Pace was this crazy vibe that you find no-where else in LA. Stuck in the heart of Laurel Canyon right next to Kim Morrison's old house and right below the famous country store..Pace makes you feel like you are living in 1969. The music they play represents the era and everyone dining there (including Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel) seemed to be unpretentious and relaxed Eclectic artworks covers the walls of this tiny little gem that will now be my fav spot in LA. The service was amazing and our waitress made our meal a great experience and was very memorable. Pace has done something special here that cannot be copied and cannot be forgotten. We will be back :-) Pros: service..music..pasta Cons: parking more

pretty good 7/17/2008

I met a friend for dinner at Pace last night. We got there early and snagged a table in the back. Much quieter and cozy for conversation. I'm glad we chose the back room because, as the night went on, the larger dining room became very noisy and jammed with people. The waitress appeared to be new, but she was very attentive and did her best. Another waitperson brought us a dipping sauce for bread that he said was made from a corn vinaigrette. Uh, tasted like squash soup to us. Very odd. I guess that's what they do with the leftover soup at Pace. We ordered the potatoe, pesto and green bean pizza--we were feeling adventurous. It was pretty good, but be in the mood for something really hearty. We balanced that with an excellent beet salad. Dessert was the chocolate souffle--too sweet and overpriced at $14. I would go back, but not hurry back. Pros: Nice, cozy back room, interesting menu Cons: Overpriced for some items more

Perfect Ambience, delicious food! Perfect for romantic date!!! 5/28/2008

Although I have been here on separate occassions with my family, my aunt, etc, it is especially great for a date. The location is very unique, tucked under the old building up laural canyon. It is very romantic with dim lighting both inside and out, yet it maintains a fun LA feel with funky local art hanging on the walls and diverse yet casual customer base. O, and the food is great! the think wood fired pizzas are delicious and i am never disappointed by the pastas, and the specials are almost always a good choice. and don't forget their great tirimisu and delicous pre-order molten lava cake with ice cream and berries mmmm. prices are a little steep but if you are on a budget go for the atmosphere and wine and split a pizza or order appetizers. its worth it! Pros: Ambience!!! delicious food Cons: a little pricey, sometimes a wait more

Never go! 2/15/2008

I am a newly-wed and I wanted to try this restaurant for our anniversary. I never even got to ordering. Their attitude was too awful! We were the only ones in the restaurant and they head waiter would not allow us to sit next to each other because that would take up more room. Then he reconsidered and told us we could but only if we were out within an hour and a half. I don't know who they think they are but for their prices I should have been able to sit next to my new husband. We left and went to Yamashiro's, by far much better service. Maybe thats why they have been in business over 80 years! Cons: everything more
