Most Awful Return Process - deceptive and knickle-diming 7/7/2011

Not knowing much about Overstock at all, I went ahead and ordered multiples of the same item, but in different sizes, so that I could try them on and get the right size. When the items arrived, I did my trying on and selected the right fit and went about the business of returning the ones that didn't fit. I've done this sort of thing a number of times with various online stores. It's pretty much how I shop now and because most places make it so easy, it's quite practical. Then I encountered Overstock. I made a terrible mistake to assume that all places make it easy for you to return items. Overstock does not make it easy at all. Have you ever heard the term ""hassle-free return""? Well, I never really knew what that meant because I never had a difficult time returning things. With Zappos and all kinds of other places, there is no issue when it comes to returning things. I logged onto Overstock to initiate my return. First I found out I had to go through almost a 10-step process with EACH ITEM I wished to return. I could not select them all and just do the process one time. Then (I discovered this with the first of the items) they try to trick you into using their ""pre-paid"" label. They wanted to send me a box for the item and charge me almost $7 for the return label. Being that I wanted to return several items, but they were only letting me select one at a time, I couldn't see how this method wasn't efficient at all. Were they really going to send me a box and label for each item? It wasn't until several more steps that it was revealed that I COULD send the item myself, but they tried very hard to persuade me it was a bad idea with a warning page and everything. So, after I figured out that piece, I went ahead and completed the process for each item I wanted to return. It took forever because each item required the multi-step operation. I will be heading to the Post Office to return all of these items and I am curious to find out how these returns will be processed. Being that they tried so desperately to impede my return process, tried to trick me into purchasing $7 return labels for each of the items I am returning, tried to dissuade me from simply going to the post office where it will be much cheaper, I am certain I will encounter further obstacles in this return process. If you are someone who is uncertain about your purchase and may return, or if you are wishing to order multiple items to select the correct size, DO NOT shop at Overstock. You will regret it. more

Overstock 3/30/2011

I got scammed by Overstock where I bought $3K Baume & Mercier watch, which ended up being defective and broke within 2 months. It turns out that overstock is not an authorized dealer nor that the 'limited manufacturer's warranty' advertised on website is valid. Overstock refuses to refund the full price. Such a SCAM! Do not buy anything from Overstock! more

Dishonesty Company (Overstock inc) 9/22/2010

Overstock did not honors the price that they made by mistake on the merchandise and they cancelled my order in cold. I was order a Hoover F8100900 Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner listed on the website with a price of $329.99, minus 10 % discount and $1 shipping, which total come to $279. 99. Two to three days later I received an email from overstock with stated “due to an inventory error we were unable to ship the item.” And my order was cancelled by overstock, under my account. according to Overstock, if I want to reorder the Hoover Platinum I have to pay for the new price of $372.94 including the shipping. This is unprofessional of business of conduct and did not stand behind their work of mistake. I will never go back to Overstock and will not recommend to anyone. I give overstock inc a one star because I cannot give it a zero star. more

Horrendous Return Policy 4/25/2010

I recently purchased a coat from Overstock. When it arrived, it was a size to large. I contacted customer service and asked if they could exchange it for a smaller size. They said no, I would have to return it and then order a new one and pay for shipping again. \r \r I confirmed with them that as long as they received it within the 30 day return window (the return has to be initiated within 30 days and they must receive it within 45 days) and it was in the original condition with ALL the original packaging, I would receive a full refund.\r \r Luckily, I had saved everything: the hanger, the plastic bag it came in, everything. I had literally tried it on once and put it back in the box.\r \r I received an email several days after shipping the coat back to them. It had only credited my card with HALF the amount I'd paid. When I logged in my overstock account to find out what that was about, it had this note: ""Not restockable: hair."" \r \r I called customer service. She looked into the account and said ""It says here that they could only credit it partially because there was hair on it.""\r \r I said, ""You've got to kidding me. I literally tried it on once and put it back in the box. If there was 'hair' on it, it must have been one hair."" \r \r She responded with, ""Well, hair is a hazard.""\r \r She was serious.\r \r I said, ""Look, I know you go shopping. If you returned a coat to a store, in all its original packaging, with the tags on, and they docked you $28 because there was A HAIR on it, would you be likely to shop there again?""\r \r She said she understood. After more assertiveness on my part, she agreed to refund the rest of the amount.\r \r Shame on overstock for using ridiculous policies to make a buck. I will not shop there again. \r Pros: None - You get what you pay for. Cons: Deceitful Return Policy more
