Kyle, Carl, Tim and Mechelle Just a note to tell you I finally moved into my new house last Wed & Thurs even though it’s not completely finished. I want to let you know that everyone admires the stair project you provided. Other contractors and handymen, as well as visitors, admire my stairs. Also, I am appreciative that every one of you were knowledgeable, efficient, polite, and cooperative. I have been recommending your company at every opportunity. Thank you for a job well done. After coming to our house and looking at the job, Ortmann submitted a contract that we agreed upon. When Carl showed up he took all day to cut the skirt wrong 3 times! He left at 2:00 after getting absolutely nothing done. Ortmann called that night saying wanted more money. I explained we had a contract and I expected him to honor it. He began yelling at me and was verbally abusive. His "carpenter" showed up the next day to collect his tools and left. Ortmann followed up on this with an abusive and insulting email claiming this was somehow our fault. We paid him over $1,000 that we got nothing for. The bottom line is he broke his contract, stole over $1,000 of our money, lied about everything, and left us with a mess instead of new stairs. We have never worked with such an unprofessional and dishonest contractor. The only silver lining is the materials that he brought to the job were junk and now they will never be used on our stairs. Honestly, don't even consider doing business with this guy. Even his positive reviews here show that he gave people one price and then charged them more when he had their house torn apart. He obviously underbids the jobs to get his foot in the door and then tries to shake you down for more money after he starts the job. Apparently it has worked in the past, but not with us. We have filed a BBB complaint and have hired a lawyer to get our money back. Don't make the same mistake we did and don't hire these people! more

Over the past 20 YEARS we have had two staircases done by Tim Ortmann. Our staircases have both been beautiful. We had some problems along the way but Mr Ortmann was always very responsive and professional about a solution. We like working with a small locally owned company that takes pride in their work. Carl the shop forman personally turned our custom designed newel post and ran our chalice rail right in their shop. We highly recommend Ortmann Stair for all your Staircase custom mantels and trim needs! more
