I went there last week with my friend & had the most delicious omelet but the pancakes I had were the best I have ever had in my 48 yrs. I'm bringing my entire family there ASAP

I usually really enjoy the food I get here. The portions are great. $4 for a glass of OJ is a tad pricey though. The service is spotty at best. And they don't take credit card...

The worst, stay far, far away! 5/30/2010

I can't find one good thing to say about this place. The prices are outrages, they don't take debit or credit cards, you must turn off your cell phone here. The menu is just breakfast, no kid's menu, the ala carte items are terribly expensive. The coffee was brown water! My son who is 12, ordered biscuits and gravy. Now, I've had lots of biscuits and gravy in my day, but to use CHEESE BISCUITS? This was a first, and the last, one word-horrible! Plus, it was $5, he didn't want to gravy so it came on the side, my sister ate it. He choked down one biscuit, so basically, no kid's menu, he eats a cheese biscuit for $5. PLUS, they change 18% gratuity automatically! we were 4 adults, one child. The menu does not say ""for a party of 5 and over"" either, it just has a blankey statement that they reserve the right to add the gratuity. SHAME ON YOU OHOP, WE WON'T BE BACK Cons: weak coffee, terrible food, high prices more

Mediocre at best 5/7/2008

The food was no better than any pancakes i have made at home. The waitress was quite rude also with their cell phone policy. Wouldn't recommend. Pros: Service ok Cons: food mediocre more

A bad example of a great restaurant 11/6/2007

I moved to Phoenix from Atlanta, and in Atlanta, The Original Pancake House was my favorite place to go for a great breakfast. Upon moving here, I was overjoyed to find there is one in Scottsdale, so the family and I load up the car and make the drive. \r \r Boy was I disappointed. First, they don't take credit cards! We had to leave and find an ATM, then come back to the incredibly crowded parking lot and wait forever for a table. The service was slow, and the waitress was not enthusiastic or very friendly. The food... man, what a difference. It is not nearly as good as the locations in Georgia. Sure, it's good food, but not EXCELLENT food like the items I had become used to. It's better than IHOP, but not worth the prices you have to pay (in cash lol). Coffee used to come with a pitcher of real heavy cream... not here. There just isn't the high quality, gourmet touch to the food like there is on other cities. The pancakes were nothing special. I'm not sure what they have done to the recipes to make them be sub-standard for the caliber of quality you can find at TOPH's in other states, but I wouldn't waste my time or money. It breaks my heart to say this, but if you have experienced TOPH in another place, you will be disappointed. Pros: not many Cons: high price for average food more

Disappointing compared to other Original Pancake Houses 8/2/2007

I had heard of the Original Pancake House from an unusual source: The blog for a web comic that I frequent. The artist regularly went to TOPH when a comic convention took him to a nearby city, and he absolutely raved about the food (particularly the Dutch Baby).\r \r Flash forward two years. The company I currently work for sent me to Dallas to attend a training seminar, and while I was in Texas I got the chance to visit some old friends (who do not live in Dallas but live nearby). While at the hotel I perused one of the guides and saw, to my delight, that there was a TOPH there, and so we went to eat.\r \r The food was amazing, the atmosphere comfortable, and the service impeccable (despite the fact that the joint was a-jumpin'). More than that, they had a Monte Cristo - a delicious ham and swiss sandwich that is egg-battered and deep fried - and since Bennigan's closed I haven't been able to find one anywhere else.\r \r When I returned to Phoenix, I discovered there was a TOPH in Scottsdale, and immediately told my roommates that we HAD to go.\r \r I was disappointed.\r \r The host was slow in acknowledging that we were there, and then sat a couple who came in after us at a table large enough to seat our party before we were seated.\r \r Our server, after he had a few of his tables ""dropped"", became more cordial and provided fine service. However, to my dismay the menu was lacking that Monte Cristo I had been so desiring! When the food came, it was decent quality, but the dish I got - the Tahitian Maiden's Dream - was lacking in flavor at the Scottsdale location compared to the dish I received at the Dallas location.\r \r Add in several tables-full of rude adults and children who attempted to encroach on our table-space twice, as well as prices that were a little higher than expected compared to the Texas TOPH, and overall I was dissatisfied with my experience at Scottsdale's TOPH. Take a lesson from the Lone Star State, TOPH Scottsdale, and I might give you another try. Pros: Better food quality than Denny's, with a more exotic and flavorful selection. Cons: Definitely sub-par when compared to the Original Pancake House in Dallas. more

Below average food 2/11/2007

Food quality average or below, service is poor. Coffee is watery and tasteless and OJ is not fresh squeezed. Great menu choices but execution is poor. The quality of food and service between here and the ones in Illinois is dramatic--there is well above average, here in Scottsdale is poor. more

Great Pancakes! Bring Cash 10/24/2006

Going out for breakfast is my boyfriend and mine weekend ritual. We just moved here from Portland, Oregon and have been trying to replace back home Original Pancake House. I think we might have found it, or as close as we are going to get to it. I might be partial for sentimental reasons. But Scottsdale's Original Pancake had some of the best pancakes i have ever tasted. Sorry Grandma. Just remember to bring cash, have patience (the wait might take a bit), and bring your appetite. I dont think you will be disappointed. \r One bummer...their fresh squeezed orange juice is out of a plastic jug and brought it not made there. Pros: easy to get to Cons: cash only joint more

Good food but treated like criminal!!!! 10/14/2006

First let me start by saying it is not only the food the matters (which it is always top notch at OPH) it is also the service and manner in which you are treated as a customer. I was a decent customer and did eat at OPH at least 7 - 10+ times a year since it has opened. The best part of all is it was the owner the treated me like dirt. First if you go make sure you have cash or check. They do not take credit card and I knew that when I went to eat, during my last visit (this will be the last time I go to OPH) I went to pay with cash a $100 bill I had received from my bank the day before, however, did not know they would not take my $100 bill since it was the older style $100 bill. When I went to pay I was told that they would not take the bill since it was and old style $100 bill and with nothing else left to pay with I was confronted by the owner who got in my face telling me I would need to leave my drivers license and go get change for the bill since he would not take the bill. He stated that they had taken some fake older $100 bills, I told him that I had been a regular and that if he made me do this I would never come back. One of the cashier staff stated that the same thing to him that she had seen me before and he will never come back. He got in my face and said ""then it will be his loss"". I did exactly as directed and came back to pay after going back to my bank and chaning the bill, funny how my bank did not even ask questions of the bill they just took it and changed it out for me. The best part was when came back to pay and told the staff I wanted to speak to the owner they said that was the owner. He is right it is my loss and his as well as I make it a point whenever I can to tell anyone else who eats or lives in the area to go to any of the other breakfast places around the area. Trust me at least 4+ or more just as good and that treat you how a customer should be treated. Hope this helps!!! Pros: Food is good Cons: Owner does not value customers - cash only more

Good food, thats all 7/13/2006

So the food is really good and they have a good variety. The problem is this place is not run very well in any other area. The service was horrible, the food took 40 minutes, the cost for 3 people to eat was $50.00, and the portions are not the biggest. We were soured from the get go when the waiter was not even nice about telling us that they do not split checks. This has to be one of 5 places left in the world that will not take a debit/credit card. Their policy of cash only really makes it unreasonable that they wouldnt split a party of 5 check in half. Everything is an additional price, if you want strawberry syrup instead of maple, $1.50 extra. Soda is canned, not fountain at $1.50 per can. To top it all off, its funny but they are completely serious about their wall of rules when you walk in. Rules such as, please leave your table as soon as you're done eating to free them up for others. They discourage you digesting your food with a cup of coffee at the end. This is definitely the Hitler Diner. Also, regardless of the size of your party, 18% gratuity is added to the check....kinda lame when you get a horrible waiter like we had. more

Fantastic Food, Odd 1st & Last Impressions 6/2/2006

The food & wait staff were top drawer; however, the hostess wouldn't even look up from her newspaper when we left and said goodbye to her. Yeah, that promotes repeat customers. more

Nasty 5/31/2005

This place is totally not worth the wait...ever. Everything I had tasted like Bacon grease. If you like Bacon grease, then this is the place for you! more

lousy manager in Scottsdale 1/15/2003

The food is fabulous, exceptional pancakes and light fluffy omelets. Try the diced ham and cheese omelet or the (large) German Apple pancake. It is worth the wait. However the service leaves a little to be desired at the Scottsdale location. I witnessed a waitress who needed help get yelled at and run out by the manager who was busy with his cup of coffee. She had many tables come in at the same time and truly needed help. He told her that if she couldn't handle it, there's the door!. She ran out crying. Prices are a bit steep for breakfast, but it's worth it. more

Best Syrup 1/7/2003

Busy, yes...Delicious, oh yes... Atmosphere, tucked next to the Motel 6 and the Scottsdale Fashion Square, what more could you ask for. Try the baked is to die for more

Heavenly Breakfasts 11/24/2002

excellent - The Dutch Baby is a memorable treat. It takes 30 minutes to prepare it, but it is time well spent! The reward is a real teat more

nothing original about this place 11/22/2002

Disagree -- too expensive and pancakes are lousy. A couple slices of bacon is pricey and the pancakes have the ""flavors"" slopped on the top. more

How about a two egg breakfast? 10/17/2002

The food that they do serve is great; however, I think they should have a classic two egg breakfast. Now if one wants eggs, toast and hashbrowns, they have to order everything a la carte. Not only is the OJ pricey, but other classics are as well. The food is wonderful but the value is ABSOLUTELY NON-EXISTENT! Cons: VALUE, CROWDED more

Mouthwatering, end of story 9/18/2002

The wait is worth it. If you pointed to the wrong item it is no mistake because you will love what you get. Nakins are needed before the meal because the food is mouthwatering more

The Original Pancake House 8/18/2002

Just a resturant you have to try. Simply, the best breakfast! Pros: Great Food, Unique Dishes more

Good but over-rated 8/16/2002

I usually really enjoy the food I get here. The portions are great. $4 for a glass of OJ is a tad pricey though. The service is spotty at best. And they don't take credit cards - which can be kind of annoying. All in all, I like the food, but after several trips with rude service I switched to The Good Egg or The Eggery Pros: portions, strawberry crepes Cons: service more

Try the 49ers 8/14/2002

By far and away the best pancakes anywhere. If you;re not early though there could be a wait, but well worth it. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Wait, Limited Seating, Small more
