Great Mexican Food, Good Coffee, Inexpensive Prices, Friendly Staff - and Donuts! 3/27/2008

I completely agree with the great reviews about this place. My wife and I live just a mile from the restaurant and we visit it often. We first became clued-in to this establishment when we noticed that the cars lining up for their drive-through window often extended several cars out of the parking lot and into the street. The strange part of it, is that it is both a Mexican cafe (not fast-food) and a donut shop. Once we entered the place, we realized that it was considerably larger than would appear from the outside (including an outside patio in back). It is very clean and decorated in a way faithful to the culture it represents. You walk up to a counter and order your food. As you wait to order, you see Latinas making flour tortillas with a rolling pin, throwing them on a grill and putting the final product in a straw basket for the kitchen workers to grab. The cashier gives you a number and you sit at a table or the counter and wait for your number to be called. Everyone working there was very nice and seemed happy with the way management treated them. The food portions seemed appropriate for the inexpensive prices and left us feeling satisfied. They generally have a choice of three different types of good coffee, which you serve to yourself. One way I have of judging a Mexican restaurant is by the proportion of Hispanics eating there. In this place, I was one of the few non-Hispanics (my wife is Latina). I highly recommend their enchiladas verde and their huevos rancheros. We have not made it on a weekend yet to try their manudo, but I am looking forward to that. When we finish eating, we walk over to the donut section and order several creme-filled monsters from their large selection of pastries. They are too good to describe and my waistline has suffered for it. Word of warning, the place closes at 2:00 pm. I cannot recommend this place enough for casual dining of large and small groups. Pros: Great Mexican food and great donuts, good coffee, friendly staff, good prices Cons: Sorry, can't think of anyting to complain about more

Big breakfast tacos 7/6/2007

This is one of the best experiences in Mexican food in town. Their breakfast tacos are very large - loaded with good stuff. Their barbacoa is all meat, their chorizo con huevos are not too spicey, everything is high quality with homemade tortillas. In addition, the donut shop has fresh donuts that meet the need for those with a sweet tooth. Worth a trip across town for breakfast! Pros: Great food; excellent quality; big portions; fresh coffee. Cons: Limited counter space, just not large enough overall. more

Home Sweet Home 8/8/2002

For those of us that grew up with the smell of fresh tortillas in the morning, welcome home. For those that did not, pull up a chair and enjoy. As soon as you walk in,you will be surrounded by the aroma of tortillas and the sound of a mexican household kitchen. After witnessing the tortilla-making,you choose what will fill your tortilla. You have an array of choice between meaty Barbacoa, potato and egg, bacon and egg,or even an afternoon usual of carne guisada to start your day.Another favorite is the chorizo con huevo.Chorizo con huevo is a mixture of spicy spanish sausage mixed with egg that creates a hearty and robust mexican flavor. If you stop by on the weekend, don't forget to try their excellent menudo..just like mom's.This traditional spicy mexican soup includes tripe and hominy. The Best! Once you've experienced what we miss the most about home-don't miss out on their excellent donuts.;) -D Venegas Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Order Counter Space, Breakfast Hours Only more
