I recently went to Opera for a birthday party. We got there early so we didn't have any problems with the bouncers. The overall atmosphere of the club is nice.........good crowd...

Scam Artsist to Patrons and The Unsigned Artist Community 1/19/2010

I was invited to perform for a company the name of victory2multimedia at the China Club in NYC. I have a long list of emails to the promoter for the company stating the itinerary for my show at the China Club, pricing for the guestlist, approval of flyers to be promoted ect. I touched base with this company everyday in regards to the websites for which I was promoting my event, and the company even suggested places to go to promote to make the night successful for all parties involved. My promoting was so successful that I even provided the company with a birthdays for VIP, even a Bachelor Party for the evening of my event. My guestlist was way over one hundred people. Upon arriving to the club I was notified that all my guest were being charged any where from 20 dollars for admittance to $50 at the door to enter the club. To make it worst they threw me on the stage and cut my performance short. Many people missed the performance because they arguing at the door about the admittance fee and because they said I faulsey advertised my event. The company then said they can do what ever they want at the door to my fans because I was under no legal contract with them. I do have many emails that the company sent to me even an email with all the intenerary for the night involving the details for my event. They potentially ruined my reputation and got over on my guest for the evening by having me advestise false information. They will also try to tell you to pay at the door to get in because your not dressed properly. Dont do business with them! more

There is nothing alright about this place on no particular night. Save your money! Chances are they dont even care enough about you to worry about you poppin bottles or not. It doesn't make em move any faster. Victory2 were the ones that referred me to this ghetto and unprofessional club. So im mad at them too for even still doing business with this place. They going to try to earn my trust just to book B-Day bashes. See that's how they get you.You are just another number to them they dont care and do nothing when the experience turns out terrible. I should have known it was doomed to begin with cause check this out. Im the 1st girl in line with my other VIP ladies cause the line is so empty. The club opens at 9 or 10 and we was there by 1030 ( to get the free drink that by the way was not free). There was no bouncer at the door. Then when he finally got to the door he aint let me and my ladies in. Then I hear theres no female security to check the females. wtf! where was she at I will never know. Then finally its after 11 a girl looking a mess with an attitude come out with a clipboard. She lets my VIP guys and other guests that were in the other line go in 1st when I'm the birthday girl. Then theres so much wrong with that contract Victory2 send you. Theres supposed to be a complimentary bottle of champagne. Yea right they dont mention its a $20 mandatory tip. The dance floor was bare. The fools over booked VIP and VIP didnt even look comfortable cause they was standing up shoulder to shoulder. How is the VIP crowded at 11pm? They knew what they were doing they never intend to give it to you. Then another stupid thing was if more guests came through the night, I had to stop everything and go to the line with them. wtf! Getting the manager involved was no help who was rude and couldn't control his staff cause they was tripping! I left immediatly! Save urself a lot of frustration and dont deal with Victory2Multimedia or anything of Club China and Club Opera! more

DEATH TO A NIGHTCLUB- HORRIBLY DISAPPOINTING 12/15/2008

I WENT TO OPERA LAST WEEKEND BECAUSE IT WAS MY FRIENDS 25TH BIRTHDAY AND I WAS ON HIS GUEST LIST AND I ENDED UP PAYING. SERIOUSLY, WHAT KIND OF PROMOTING IS THIS? I THOUGHT GUEST LISTS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE FOR PEOPLE WHO WERE CELEBRATING WHATEVER KIND OF EVENT AND THEIR PARTY WOULD BE ADMITTED FREE OF CHARGE. ALSO, THE PURPOSE OF THE GUESTLIST WAS TO AVOID LINES, HOWEVER, I WAITED ON LINE FOR GOD KNOWS HOW LONG. IT WAS TERRIBLE. IF THE CLUB IS NOT GOING TO ADHERE TO THEIR POLICY REGARDING THE GUESTLIST, WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF HAVING IT? THE BOTTLE SERVICE WAS HORRENDOUS. MY PARTY PURCHASED OVER 5 DIFFERENT BOTTLES BUT EACH TIME WE NEEDED A NEW BOTTLE, WE HAD TO GO TO THE BAR TO PURCHASE BECAUSE THE WAITRESSES WERE NEVER IN SIGHT. THEN WHEN THE WAITRESSES WERE ADVISED ON THE PURCHASE THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO EXTEND ATTITUDES. LESSON #1, IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL CLUB HAVE WAITRESSES THAT ENJOY SERVING OTHERS OR AT LEAST WHO ENJOY THEIR JOB.. BECAUSE SUCKY SERVICE WILL END UP WITH YOU HAVING NO ONE TO SERVE! ANOTHER PROBLEM I HAD WAS THAT THE DRINKS WERE SEVERELY OVERPRICED. IF I'M PAYING 15 DOLLARS FOR A MIXED DRINK, THEN I EXPECT TO TASTE SOME OF THE ALCOHOL! INSTEAD, I TASTED JUICE BECAUSE THE DRINKS WERE SO WATERED DOWN, I HAD A HARD TIME SWALLOWING IT! EITHER IT WAS SO WATERED DOWN OR THEY SERVED THE BOTTOM OF THE LINE ALCOHOL. MY DOLLAR WAS SORELY WASTED ON THOSE DRINKS. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE PLACE STUNK. THE ODOR WAS SO OBNOXIOUS AT TIMES I COULD BARELY BREATHE. IF I WANTED TO SMELL SOMETHING NASTY I WOULD HAVE STUCK MY HEAD INTO A KITTY LITTER BOX!!! IT'S TIME TO INVEST IN A NEW VENTILATION SYSTEM AND ALSO STEAM CLEAN THE FURNITURE. WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, THAT WOULD BE HELL NO!!! THEY WOULD SORELY NEED TO OVERHAUL THEIR SERVICE BEFORE I DECIDE TO SET FOOT THROUGHT THEIR DOOR AGAIN. Pros: THE MUSIC WAS ACTUALLY DECENT. Cons: PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING ELSE.. SERVICE SUCKED more

Opera is the worst club in NYC 12/15/2008

I turned 25 over the weekend and figured i'd throw my party at Club Opera. Biggest mistake of my life. Out of all the clubs ive been to, this was by far the worst club i've been to. We went through 5 bottles and still they had a problem getting my friends into VIP, ended up having to pay a bouncer off for wristbands. The drinks at the bar were weak and overpriced. 9 dollars for a beer, 17 dollars for a patron shot smh. The door is real tight for no reason, wasnt like it was packed out and the girl to guy ratio is literally 10:1. If your looking for a disappointing night, the Opera is the place to be. Cons: Table service waitress was a b***** more

Terrible, just Terrible 12/7/2008

This place is super lame, they are mad desperate to get people in. The spanish chick cashier needs to be fired. My friend had to pay a $20 cover so we were deciding wether or not to go in, so she said she would reduce the cover to $10 and give us a free drink ticket. So we thought about it for 5 mins and then paid the $10. She took the money and said oh its past 11 so no free drink ticket. She basically milked my friend for $10 right in front of us and would not return it. First off, if the special reduced admission + drink ticket was not good anymore, why did she take the $10 cover? Anyway to make a long story short, they made up some bull$hit about they told us that it wasnt no good after 11. Bottom line, that midget spanish chick made a dumb business decision for the club. Not only is the club not gettin any future visits from me or my friend, but also everybody I tell about it. Besides, the $10 she saved that night, couldve been recouped had we gone in the club, cause I was gonna buy at least a drink for myself regardless. Do the math u stupid trick. And I hope the owner gives u the boot after reading this, so u can go work at taco bell. more

Not disgusting, not amazing 11/29/2008

Although it may not be my 1st choice, Opera really wasn't that bad at all. If you put yourself on the RSVP list, there is no cover. (Actually, there might not have been a cover at all) Yah, the staff may need to take some etiquette classes (were rude at the end when I forgot my license and debit card and now I have to go all the way back to get them back) the bartenders were attentive and the music was decent. It wasn't overly crowded either. But yes, the drinks WERE costly ($11 for a cranberry & vodka) but this IS located in Midtown Manhattan...\r If you aren't overly picky and just want a decent club to go to, this is a valid option. It's really easy to get to - just - REMEMBER TO CLOSE YOUR TAB AND DON'T FORGET ANYTHING - they lock that up in a safe and do NOT return them that evening. Pros: Good location, decent atmosphere, open spaces Cons: Rigid staff who need customer service classes, pricey drinks more

ONE OF THE WORST CLUBS IN NEW YORK CITY 11/23/2008

This past weekend I visited club ""Opera"" 11-22-2008. Which so happen to be the Old China Club. The bouncers, hostesses, and security at this club are Rude, disrespectful and have no class or moral ethics at all. The bouncers don't have a clue how to talk to people they treat you like your doing them a favor by coming to this tiny disgusting club. The liquor is over priced and watered down. The owners of this club are so cheap that they still have not changed the name of the club from China Club to Opera. On the dance floor in bright neon lights above the stage you see the China Club name still hanging above the stage. The place is over crowded and not worth the $25.00 cover charge. If you don't want to waste your money, be humiliated by uneducated staff and drink watered down drinks.. Don't visit the Opera club. Cons: over crowded , over priced and Uneducated, rude group of staff more

not my cup of tea 11/16/2008

Just went this past weekend and I must say it was one of the worst clubs everr. The flyer is misleading and tricks people into believing ladies get in for free all nite and when we got there, they tried to charge us $25 and when I said we werent paying that she lowered it to $15, which that club def. was not worth the money. The bouncers were nice but the cashier needed some major attitude adjustment. Coat check was ridiculous and they charge you double for every item you have. It was way too crowded and the people were not attractive at ALL. I guess it's expected when they let anyone in through that door. Also when you try to find this location, they still havent changed the named from China Club to Opera so you pass right by it. Pros: music Cons: rude staff, overpriced, deceiving locale more

good atmosphere but very bad service 6/29/2008

I recently went to Opera for a birthday party. We got there early so we didn't have any problems with the bouncers. The overall atmosphere of the club is nice.........good crowd, tasty drinks (but very overpriced), and ok music. The only real compaint I have is that people received horrible service, especially from the bathroom attendant.\r \r When you go to the bathroom, they do their job (which in this case is dispensing the soap and handing you a paper towel). Most people give them a tip for their services. But this attendant REQUIRED a tip and stopped people when they didn't give them any money. One time they went as far as sticking a hand out in front of the persons face and demanded a tip.\r \r It's one thing to tip a person for doing a good job, but to expect a tip for poor service (accompanied by a bad attitude) is ridiculous! Pros: great location, good atmosphere Cons: overpriced, horrible service more

Better Promo during the holiday!!!!!! 12/26/2005

I heard so many great things about this club, but on Christmas Eve it had to be the worst experience of my life. For starters, there was not enough women, too many sausages (men), the drinks were watered down(and this was while I was tipping the bartenders), and the D.Js were not working together. I thought always thought with a club having 3 different floors, they would have different types of music on each floor. What happened that evening was a disaster. The second floor played Spanish music while the first floor was playing Spanish music. Uh, what was that about? While the second floor was playing Techno, the first for was playing Techno. You are supposed to be able to escape to a different scene, that did not happen. It is a lovely scene, it was just that the promotion, sound and drinks were not on point. Get it together!!!!!! more
