Very difficult to cancel this membership - they billed me an extra month even though I called to cancel on the 3rd of the previous month. Facilities were nice but expensive for what you get. more

Not family friendly 8/22/2011

I was a member of Club One for about 4-5 years, but as my children grew up so did the price. I paid a ridiculous amount per month for all the amenities like, childcare room, classes, guest passes, towels, free weights, etc., but once my children became of age 4, then watch out! A jr. membership for each of my children to use the swimming pool, plus the ridiculous amount I was already paying, made me say bye-bye Club One.\r \r Maybe Club One should consider how they could offer a family discount when there are multiple children. Just a thought. more

Lost My Business forever 4/17/2011

Club One Shadyside has great facilities, and service...but the only thing that bothers me about this business is their pretentious...and seemingly racist business strategies. Although this particular Club One is advertised as being located in the upscale wealthy neighborhood of Shadyside, they are not. They are located in East Liberty/Larimer. They are told to say, ""Shadyside"" for obvious reasons...East Liberty is a great neighborhood~ it's diverse, and quickly re-developing (for better and/or worse). It deserves to be credited with having an upscale fitness center like Urban Active just down the street in Larimer...who will also say they are not in Larimer. Lately, whenever something good happens in East Liberty/Larimer the media and businesses call the neighborhood ""East Side"", or, ""East End""...and never mention the name of the neighborhood. Reversely, whenever something negative occurs, it's always called by it's actual name of East Liberty/Larimer, and as you might have guessed, Club One is trying to attract a ""certain"" kind of client, so, they are claiming to be located in Shadyside.... This kind of business strategy will now lose my business for good. more

Awesome! 12/27/2009

my wife and I joined last summer('08). we love the all inclusive price. no extra charges for services or classes and we have a little girl that loves the child care. i enjoy the steam after a workout and use the lap lanes occasionally. Cardio equipment is up to date and clean. since we joined the club has been updated with a new lobby, feels like a hotel, and the mens locker room is cleaned all the time by Ron and the guys. They're great. My wife loves the classes and the fact you just show up, no reservations needed. we had that at our old club and she hated it. She also like the steam and sauna and the cybex arc trainers. i bring my family in as a guest over the holiday's all the time and they love it too. great club!!! Pros: clean, friendly people & atmosphere, parking, towels, classes more

Club One is actually the name of the gym (not One Club) 9/29/2009

I had a similar experience to the member who was charged to put her membership on hold. As a faculty person at a local university, I made it clear when I joined that I would need to put my membership on hold each summer as I leave the area for other work. I was assured that this would be no problem and that I would not be charged, etc. I was a member for five years and each and every summer it was an ordeal to put the membership on hold. Not only did it take explaining the situation each time, but it was always an issue of them telling me that they couldn't do it and me having to push back in order to get what I was initially promised. To make matters worse, they wanted to charge me $35 for each month that I wasn't there. I too felt like customers were not of concern to Club One management or other staff. Pros: Generally clean with lots of equip., pools and classes Cons: Very expensive and poor customer service more

Good equipment Bad CS attitude 6/24/2009

Club1 has a wide range of facilities - standard gym equipment but also 2 pools, racketball, lots of classes etc. If you have the time to really make membership cost-effective by spending a lot of time there then I guess it's a great place. They do provide childcare but you have to pay per hour and per child and it's not particularly cheap, especially added to the $100/month it costs to be a member, and there isn't\r much for kids over 5 or so, they get bored fast. As someone who could usually only manage about an hour and a half a week at best because of time constraints I was paying about $18 an hour, which is ridiculous. And I could never find the classes I wanted at the times I could go.\r The crunch for me came when I had an injury and requested a medical hold on doctor's advice. I called Club1 about it and got hung up on, emailed them and got no response. I finally got a call-back after several attempts and was told they would put me on medical hold, and then called back to let me know they had not been able to process the $20 fee they kept charging for putting me on medical hold... It was at that point that I said goodbye to Club1, which I should have done long before. I feel that Club1does not consider its clients as partners but as a funding source. I will follow the advice of another reviewer and try Fitness Yoga.\r \r Pros: Range of facilities Cons: Very expensive, not very amenable customer service more

Good fitness club! 1/31/2009

I highly recommend this club. The people who work there are friendly and I enjoy the diversity of the club members--it is a good mix. The fitness club facilities are clean and the decor is attractive. \r I enjoy there being tv at each work out equipment that enables me to watch what I want to watch. It is great!\r \r Although I do not swim much, the indoor and outdoor pool is a nice addition. I have tried the steam room and sauna and I have enjoyed both. Pros: everything and also not being locked into a contract Cons: pricing more

wonderful gym! 8/24/2008

I have been a member of this gym for nearly a year now and I cannot say enough about it. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made. They have a large membership and some crowded hours, but I have rarely had to wait for a machine. They have two pools, one indoor and one outdoor during the summer months. They also have childcare for no additional fee. The decor is not fantastic, but it is very clean and they are continually making updates and improvements and they often add new equipment. The staff and management are all very friendly and helpful. The monthly fee is about average (maybe a little higher, but we have a military discount and I know they have many other discounts available). The upside is that there is no contract and you can cancel membership at any time. Also, they have a ton of classes and you can join in on any of them at no additional fee! Pros: Wondereful staff, lots of classes, two pools, childcare, continuously improving! Cons: Could use later hours on the weekends. more

don't agree with bad reviews 8/12/2008

I couldn't disagree more with these negative reviews. I have been a member for several years and have enjoyed it. This is one of the cleanest gyms that I have ever been in. The staff has always been very accomodating and I have been impressed that with such a significant membership, the staff knows many members on a first name basis. The management seems to constantly be looking for new ways to improve the member experience. I definetly recommend this facility. Try it for yourself, I am sure that you will enjoy the experience. Pros: very clean, friendly staff, ample parking more

unsanitary pool conditions 7/27/2008

I only used the pool once here and decided to never come back. I have some serious concerns about this place. It is not only disgusting but also potentially a serious health hazard. There is debris, hair and soap bubbles floating on the edges of the pool. The water does not seem to be circulating at all. Patches of sand, hair ties and hair cover the bottom of the pool. I hear it is the sand that falls from the ceiling from other reviewers? The visibility in the pool is poor indicating the lack of proper purification. The tile surrounding the pool area is sticky from dirt. This probably explains why it is so heavily chlorinated. I would advise against using the pool in this gym until they properly clean it up and if you are considering membership ask if you can try it out once before you sign up at least to see if the pool problem was fixed. Pros: large parking lot Cons: unsanitary pool conditions more

blam44 5/11/2008

Parking is good. \r Equipment-good, standard gym stuff\r Pretty clean\r lots of classes\r Decor- at least 6 remarkably different color schemes. Beyond imagination, with new ones being added. \r Staff--fine, but certainly not noteworthy.\r Membership services--horrible. Customer Service is an alien concept. \r communication of new or abandoned program or key personnel--Huh?\r \r There are lots of choices for your gym dollars, with more coming. Pros: parking. available equipment Cons: membership services, decor, overpriced for service more

I like it 5/4/2008

I moved here from another gym in Shadyside and couldn't be happier. It's more expensive than my old place but definitley worth it. Most importantly to me, it's clean. I have been working out at Club One for 5 months now. I have NEVER had to wait for a treadmill. I find the staff to be very pleasant and helpful and there is plenty of parking. I have absolutely no vested interested in this gym or any other in town...I just was annoyed by the other reviews and thought I'd offer up my own. I tried it for a week before I joined and would certainly encourage anyone who's thinking of changing gyms to check it out. Pros: clean, lots of equipment, nice pool, comfortable locker room Cons: only wish it were open later on saturdays and sundays more

Two wrongs don't make a right!! 5/2/2008

I'm not sure who they are trying to fool- square-cafe selling food there- what were they thinking? Not only was the club a mess, but now they are putting that food in there two wrongs don't make a right, and as for the employees- I would just say stay clear of the joint- there are plenty of places to get healthy, and not have to eat that food or walk on that dirty floor!\r How about fitness yoga?\r That will work, and there are lots of places to get a bite when you are finished. Cons: all more

Overpriced Dank Place! 9/14/2005

This gym on the surface seems to offer a lot but it's a dank old place disguised with hideously bright, cheesy colors with similar music to match. (Think preschool design meets 1970's). People walk across you while you're trying to stretch in the stretching area. Several of the the aerobic machines are broken all the time and it's hard to get one at peak hours. There's no graded membership so you're forced to pay the over $80/month for everything even if you don't need a swimming pool and the racketball courts. Best value is the Fitness Factory just a few blocks away on Highland Avenue instead. Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Ugly old fat people more
