best value, all the time 12/7/2008

I live in the area and pass by all the time, all times of the day, (but usually for dinner) and I have to say that it is the greatest value in the area, always with quick and friendly service. I feel like there is a family in the middle of all the chaos of the city and somehow, I always find my way to the Olympic for a comforting environment and great food that will still leave enough $$ in my pocket for me to explore and enjoy the rest of the city! My personal favorites have to be the lamb chops and the steak, but even if you are up for something lighter, you won't be disappointed! Pros: feels welcoming, great food more

Most disgusting food I have ever had delivered, hands down! The burger (regular cheeseburger) was warm but tasted like it was about 3 weeks old and they recooked it (imagine that taste lingering in your mouth hours after). The onion rings tasted like paper and were undercooked. The mozarella sticks tasted like they had also been recooked from weeks past and were hard, crumbly, and absolutely horrible. Never go here. Ever. more

8th Avenue Delight 7/1/2005

While on the outside Olympic Diner may not look too distinguisable from any other diner in NYC, their consistent service and decent food has kept me coming back. I have never had to wait a long time for the food to be prepared and have always enjoyed their fast, prompt, and amiable service. The establishment itself is not large or fancy, perfect for couples and groups of 4-5. Pricewise it won't set you back too much and the portions of the food are decent. I love their French Onion soup, Corned Beef Hash, and their delicious Spaghetti and Meatballs. One might want to avoid the salad and french fries as a side. Now that the place is 24 hours, it will be hard not to make this a nice late night spot along 8th Avenue. Pros: Food, Prices, Service Cons: Seats, Bathrooms more

An NYC Classic 10/29/2002

After more trips to the Big Apple then I can count, I never miss a stop at the Olympic. Is it Tavern on the Green? No. Is it Ristorante Grifone? No. Is it just as amazing, in it's own way, as any top of the line, all too kitsch, upper crust NYC eatery? ABSOLUTELY! This is a classic ""hole-in-the wall"" NY restaurant. With everything imaginable on the menu and an attempt at anything that's not, I've never met a more accomodating staff. The look isn't stellar, but you'll find none cleaner. The food is prepared by a master chef, but the cook does a ""damn fine"" job, as it were, on everything that comes out of that kitchen. This is truly a place you shouldn't miss. Oh, did I mention the fact that the prices are INCREDIBLY REASONABLE?!!! more
