Okay to Dine out 8/26/2008

I have to admit that this restaurant has its unique design but the service I received on Sunday was not up to par. The whole staff seems a little unorganized. The server tried her best, I believe, but it was not pleasant when I left the restaurant. Overall, it was okay to dine out. more

Nice Atmosphere 11/15/2007

This place has great coffee and an excellent wine list. It's a great place to go for lunch with your girlfriends. I also like the patio in the evening. Very cool. Pros: Fabulous Cons: Parking is a nightmare at the Waterfront, and valet is always full more

All Looks, Stick to the Bar 11/5/2007

Atmosphere: The place is gorgeous - all soaring ceilings and mood lighting. We sat on the patio. The smell was tolerable -- similar to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Unfortunately ordering was a production -- the patio has inadequate lighting to read the menus. The servers should carry flashlights. We were seated next to a speaker, it wasn't too loud, but it was spewing bad House music. Pros: Location, Ambiance Cons: Food more

I'm torn 7/15/2007

So I've been here during the week, and it was great. attentive service, great food, all around good experience. I've been on a saturday and it was pretty terrible. Packed, loud, bad service, and the food was lacking...something. I guess its the curse of a trendy new place in scottsdale. Pros: weeknights Cons: weekends more

good for lonely slightly used hearts, but not food 6/29/2007

well first of all the NOISE, you can't hear a thing. Patrons from the bar were literally on my back I could hear them, not my wife Cons: noise food cost ambience more

A great spot to spend an evening and enjoy the food 5/26/2007

As a special treat, a friend took me to Olive and Ivy for dinner on a week night. I cannot be more complimentary of the restaurant, service and food. It is a beautiful setting, the staff were more than polite and our waiter was very cheerful and friendly. We had a shrimp appetizer to share and he divided it for us. Having been in Morocco last summer, I tried the painted lamb and it was outstanding. When I asked for a doggie bag including the bone, the waiter was so sweet and suggested lamb bones were not good for a dog, but he would remove the meat and include the veggies and send it home with me. It was even better the next day. BUT, had I read the reviews, I would never have gone to Olive and Ivy. Now, I am glad I went and will recommend it highly to one and all and will return at least a few times a year! GREAT restaurant. This is the first time I have ever reviewed a restaurant, but I feel Olive and Ivy is exceptional and deserves my comments. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Canal???? more

Deplorable service. 4/23/2007

Although it is a beautiful restaurant, and the ambience is wonderful, we were shocked at how bad the service was. It was obvious that our server wasn't the least bit interested in providing prompt service. He had to be reminded to provide drink refills (a big no-no in my book ), and the food took way too long for what we ordered (bagels, oatmeal). The food wasn't even that great. more

Over promised, under delivered 4/6/2007

The setting and location promises a nice romantic meal amidst the candlelight. Aside from the lighting, this place fell short of the rest. Romantic? NO. Unless you consider sitting in a sea of singles checking out everything that walks by and loud dance music romantic. The patio would have been nice if you didn't smell the stench of the canal. And as for the food... less than mediocre. My boyfriend's porkloin was undercooked and was so bland that he needed to pour salt on it. The side dish was overcooked rice swimming in butter, hardly appetizing. I had the ""painted"" lamb, which was supposed to be served ""Moroccon style"". Sounds promising, but it lacked the flavor and spice of a Moroccon dish, or any dish for that matter. Further, it was served in a deep bowl making it difficult to eat. I would NEVER go back and would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Pros: good lighting and location Cons: really bad food, bad music, sceney more

Disappointed on first visit. 1/7/2007

The restaurant and it's setting are wonderful. My wife and I came in for a late lunch on Sunday, January 7th and the first thing I did is step into a large amount of gum right in front of the hostess table. I told the hostess and she said she would take care of it. She showed us to our seats and when my wife picked up the small plate in front of her there were crumbs and sticky material under the plate. The hostess wiped it away with a napkin and then sent someone over to clean it up. The waiter did not introduce himself but seemed friendly. The service was a little slow particularly since they were not busy. I had the flat iron steak and scrambled eggs which were good but my wife did not get the chicken she order with her salad. The waiter brought it later on a separate plate. When the bill came there was a hamburger on it which we did not order. The correction was made on the bill. As we walked out the gum was still in front of the hostess table. I called and asked for a manager about 4 hours after our experience and the hostess asked what it was in regard to. I told her I wanted to discuss my experience there. I was put on hold and no one ever picked up. I waited at least 10 minutes with not even any music to listen to. Therefore, I felt compelled to write this review. more

Big Disappointment 1/4/2007

I was really disappointed after hearing such great things about this restaurant. We finally were able to get reservations for New Year's Eve. The best thing about the evening were the drinks. My husband had the salmon that was on the set menu. We jokingly began to call it ""bloody salmon"". It had beets in it but the presentation made it look like the salmon was bleeding. Everyone else at our table thought the food was just OK. It may be because of the set menu that evening so I'll be nice. The worst part of the evening was the service. Our waiter could have cared less about us! He seemed rushed, in a hurry, not accessible when we needed additional items at our table, and annoyed when asked questions about the menu. Wow, this was our first experience there. After eating at many of the other Fox restaurants, this was the most disappointing experience. North/Bloom are still the best! Pros: ambience more

This is a wonderful restuarant. I have been here uncountable times and every single time it's perfect! They have GREAT food and AMAZING service! It is a very good spot to go on Friday and Saturday nights because they have a bar and a patio lounge that is comfortably busy. I would choose this restaurant over any other. Pros: friendly and smart staff. the best food ever Cons: there are non more

my favorite Phoenix night spot 11/22/2006

Olive & Ivy is a fine establishment. The lunch menu on weekdays is fantastic. I have had the poached salmon with oyster mushrooms and the veal ravioli with shaved parmesan. Both dishes were superb. My favorite of the two would be the poached salmon. The restaurant also serves nice bread with a tasty basil pesto dip which I really enjoyed. Pros: Everything was first class - food, service, ambiance, romance, wine, feeling of ease Cons: the weekend brunch menu, featuring too many egg dishes more

I would go back for their salad ONLY! 11/18/2006

New restaurant in town. Just opened some in October. The resturant itself is rather big and it is devided into 2 parts -deli and the main dining area. The deli serves trendy salads, pastries, desserts, and gelato. I bought a couple of desserts from the deli and they weren't as nice as they were presented. As for the main dining room, I LOVE the contemporary decor....absolutely gorgeous. However, I wasn't too impressed with their food and service. Our waitress didn't know anything much about the menu and mixed up my orders. The ceasar salad was great, however, shrimp appetizer was way too salty. We ordered the beef short ribs and steak combo deal - and we weren't too impressed with the flavor and their portion is way too small. We ordered the churro with pudding dipping sauce for dessert and it wasn't any different than the ones you get from the mall. Maybe they are really new and haven't really got everything down to the T but who knows?! Pros: Ceasar salad & ambience. Request for the patio. Cons: Loud. Pricey and small portions. more
