Great food and quick service 1/31/2011

Food: Delicious, hefty, and quality. Service: Quick, responsive. The only problem with this place is their difficulty in taking card payments. That, and the fact that the food is so hardy that I usually fall asleep after a burrito combo : ) Their to-go service may be nicer than their eat-in service, but overall an earnestly priced eatery. more

Worth it! 1/23/2010

I have been dining at the Jefferson location for a couple of years and have never had any complaints. In fact, I have found the food to have very good flavor (try the beef nachos), the prices reasonable, and the atmosphere to be lively. The bartender(s) and staff have always been kind and welcoming, whether I sit at the bar or meet friends for dinner. For anybody who has worked in the restaurant business, there are times when the restaurant gets ""slammed"" and you simply don't have any additional help. During these dinner rushes, I have found the staff to work hard, yet remain attentive to the diners' needs. So please don't let one or two negative reviews cause you concern. It's usually the people that have a bad experience that feel the need to write a negative review, giving an unfair, skewed overview. Which is why I write - to provide some balance. I am certain there are hundreds of happy customers that cast their vote by simply returning to dine. It's evident in the ""regulars"" and families I see. It's one of the better downtown Mexican joints. Busy is good! It means Ole Ole is worth trying! Pros: Delicious food at a reasonable price, great service more

Great food and Better service! 1/20/2010

I have been coming to the Jefferson St. Ole' Ole' for about 2 and a half years and 50+ visits and was appalled when I read the deceptive and inaccurate reviews of this restaurant. I am not the review-writing type, but felt that I had to say something because of the fantastic experiences I have had. Wonder why the place is so busy on Friday nights? It is BECAUSE of the good food and exceptional service dumb dumbs. I sometimes visit for dinner only after work and sometime I visit to suck down a few of their delicious margaritas. In either instance, the service, food and drinks have always been exceptional. What, did you have a bad day guy? Go kick your dog...don't purposely go out of your way to try to slander and beat down the hard-working restaurant folk of Portland. You from California guy? Move back. And, you have the gall to accuse the employee of stealing from the till? Nice work Detective Palumbo. Unbeleivabley naive and childish comment. I have gotten to know a couple of the employees and frankly, they aren't the vegas vault thieves you are trying to imply...Bottom line is this: Great food, drinks and service. Give it a try and I guarantee you'll be back. Pros: Quick, healthy mexican food Cons: Soccer always on TV more

Spending months of my life in Mexico City, I like this food. 1/20/2010

When I eat at this little spot, I am always amazed at the quality and authenticity of quality food given the price. Pros: Great food and excellent service. Cons: None. more

Excellent Cheap Eats! 3/4/2009

I will be the first to admit that my first experience with this restaurant was not good. We called just to see if they did carry out. We had to call five times before someone would pick up the phone and then when they did pick up, they put my husband on hold for 10 minutes - he hung up. Not good. Finally, three months later, we decided to give it another go because it's so close to where we live. It was outstanding. They are quick, the food is authentic mexican and we love the variety of corn tortilla tacos they have. The staff all know us now and we feel like a part of their family when we walk in. I'd say we go there at least once a week. Yes, they have some making up to do with all the bad press from before, but I am thoroughly confident in the new team. You gotta give it a try again! Pros: cheap, good food, friendly staff Cons: not the most comfortable seating more

New management, Fresh food, clean, new paint, First time, it was great, and I have gone back. 3/3/2009

I had not ate here before, but on 02-10-09 I had dinner there and was surprised that I could get a dinner platter for 6.50 and trust me I can eat a lot, and I could not finish my meal. You can tell that it is made daily with fresh produce. The Salsa was fantastic, both the red and the green. I spent some time talking with the new manager Mark, who assured me that they were doing everything they could to regain the customer they lost, although it was before his time he still accepts responsibility on behalf of the owner. He said that he would do anything and everything to make sure that people come back, and I believe him. The service was great, fast and it was very clean and orderly. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the all the menu items and willing to make recommendations. The manager acknowledged that they can never be perfect, but they will always take care of the customer under his watch. I think you should try them again, and I?m sure you will not be disappointed. I would love to see them be successful, so please pass the word. Pros: Fast Food, made fresh daily, clean, and very affordable Cons: opens at 10, and they have great coffe and breakfast burritoes. more

Worst Service Ever 10/24/2008

I highly recommend the Ole Ole, on E. Burnside. A friend and me have tried the Jefferson Ole Ole, twice now, and it has been the worst service every time. We waited 10 minutes to have our order taken, while no one else is in line and the guy working was chatting with patrons on there way out for instead of waiting on us. Then 5 minutes later I notice he hadn't even given our orders to the chef, while the employee talked with another customer. In what would normally take 5 minutes to make a burrito, took 25 minutes, and two people got their food ahead of us. Who ever works Friday nights, needs to be fired, and they need more people running that place. Don't bother with Jefferson, goto E. Burnside! Pros: Larger indoor seating area Cons: Worst Customer service more

Excellent mexican! For around $5 7/31/2007

I had a chimichanga at this place and it was magnificent! It was one of the biggest i have ever had and for 5 dollars, it is more than worth it. As for taste: as it was served was really really good, but add in the red and/or green sauce on top, and it is excellent. The staff was nice, funny, and friendly, and even cleaned up our plates before we left even though it is the general rule you put your own plates in the bus tubs. I would highly recommend this place to others. Not a place to take people to impress them, but great food for 5 dollars. Pros: Really Cheap, Big Portions Cons: If any, parking downtown more

Excellent Food, great margaritas 5/12/2007

We love this place. The staff is really warm and friendly, the food is inexpensive and delicious, and they have an awesome selection of tequilas. There is nothing bad about this place. It has a mellow, neighborhood vibe. Love it. Pros: Great margaritas, friendly staff, cheap delicious food. more

In a word: No. 10/29/2006

Average food, at best. Rude, obnoxious, disrespectful service. Staff member informed me he was ""going to give me a lesson on how to order,"" never mind the fact that I'm a skinny white boy who speaks nearly fluent Spanish and might know what the menu means (I did not reveal this fact to the staff.) Not exactly how I expected them to say ""Welcome!"" Cons: leaving more

works for me! 6/16/2005

I love this place! Good for vegetarians, health nuts, and grease hounds. Just gotta know what to order. Tacos are good for the grease-free vegetarian. Burritos are huge, and grease-free. Occasionally I'll get a veggie Chimichanga!! Fantastic! Although it is fried... it still seems a bit light, because of the tasty addition of guacamole, salsa, and lettuce. It is my favorite. Kinda like a monstrous fried burrito with good stuff on top. A must try. Also, if you order any sides, they give a bunch for little $$. Never been here with/for a large group, so I don't know how they handle that sort of crowd... but in my experience, for 1-2 people this place is the best for tasty, cheap eats, mexican style. Nice quiet place. I always get my food to go, and it would seem that everyone else does too, because I rarely see any diners within. Pros: cheap, delicious, great to go Cons: sometimes close early more

Bad Service 12/16/2004

I work down the street, and our entire office phoned in a very large order. When I went to pick up the order, the guy at the front counter asked if this was going to be a regular occurance because it was a pain to make that much food. I told him I thought that they would be happy that they made so much money off of one order. He responded that he didn't care about how much money the place made because he didn't see any of it and he would appreciate it if our office didn't order from there again! Our office will definitely NOT be ordering from there again! Cons: , unhelpful, bad attitude more
