Birthday Luncheon 6/14/2010

My luncheon today at Oishi's with my nine year old grandson and his friend was fun. I learned the manager and the chef are from Thailand. I telephoned in the morning and made a reservation for three on their voice recorder. Later someone returned my call, and assured me that they would do the onion volcano trick, etc. We arrived around noon and were the only ones seated in the teppanyaki area, so we had all the attention of Pat, the chef. The manager told me they normally do not do the tricks for the noon diners, but since I had requested them and it was a special birthday lunch, the chef would perform them. The chef was funny and seemed to enjoy the boys and played all sorts of tricks on them. The food was good and the boys cleaned their plates, and gave Grandma thumbs up for bringing them here. I highly recommend this restaurant. more

Hokey Restaurant 6/9/2010

We as a couple sat with four kids and their parents. the chef was more concerned with entertaining the kids than preparing our meal. Everything is prepared one thing at a time, so you do not get to eat your vegetables and grilled mushrooms with your entree.\r As the chef was flipping pieces of chicken into kids mouths, our chichen was burning and the mushrooms got charred. Yuck! No one likes dried out chicken and burnt mushrooms. The chef then gave out all the large pieces of chicken to people who didn""t even order chicken and my husband was left with a few morsels of crispy, dried out chicken. Chicken was one of his main entrees and he got a teaspoon of chicken. It is evident that the pla ce is kid friendly, but too much so that couples feel like you are at Chuckie Cheese. I think I mispelled Chuckie. Oh well you get the drift. Pros: different and could be fun Cons: too many kids, burned and dried food more

Good Help is Hard to Get 5/19/2009

OK 1/15/2009

7 of us spent $200 plus tip on dinner on the Hibachi grill side. 3 of those 7 were kids. The sushi isn't the best we've had. Nippon Tei is. The grill was fun and entertaining. The kids had fun and the chef was awesome. The food from the grill was pretty good, not the best. Seemed to be a little chincy with portions. I doubt we'll go back. We'll try something different next time. more

This place is ""Oishii"" 7/26/2008

Like its name implies, this restaurant is ""very delicious"". Both my husband (German-Missourian) and I (Japanese yonsei) enjoy their sushi and their service. Their prices are comparable to a meal at Red Lobster, Olive Garden, etc. We haven't tried the steakhouse side, but heard it's just as wonderful. If you want a meal that leaves your hunger satisfied without the heaviness, give Oishii a try. Pros: Service, food, Environment more

Yikes 1/1/2008

\r When it had first opened, a friend and I decided to have lunch there to try it out.....We both ordered meals at the hibachi table and a couple rolls of sushi. The sushi was pretty good, but on the other hand the food was TERRIBLE. Probally the worst hibachi I've ever had. Plus, you have to pay extra for fried rice, just like Kobe. Our bill came to about 60 dollars....For lunch!?? I recommend Shogun in St. Charles alllll way. Take it from a real Japanese. more

Great food, excellent service. 12/20/2007

Great place! I am the State Senator here, so you can look me up and verify that this is no phony review. Anyway, if you cannot trust a politician... Pros: Great food. Cons: Newer place, has not yet grown to the level of that intangible packed house ""fun place"" atmosphere. more

Great teppan-yaki 9/6/2007

I've been to Oishi at this location several times. Their teppan experience is fantastic. The staff is friendly and they put on a great show. I recently went their for the sushi and I was disappointed. It was OK, but it wasn't great. So from now on, I'm sticking to the teppan dinner. Pros: Staff is great more

Best sushi in town 4/30/2007

If you are looking for a dinner experience that's both fun and filling, I would recommended Oishi. Oishi is two restaurants in one. One side is a fabulous, entertaining hibachi style steakhouse and the other side is a modern sushi bar serving some of the best sushi in town. Must have items include: Emperor and Empress (hibachi dinner for two consisting of : filet mignon, lobster, and choice of shrimp or scallops), steak teriyaki , everything tempura (and there's a lot of choices), the hosue special pad thai and the lobster roll ($21, but you get 2 rolls AND a lobster salad). On the weekends, Oishi offers bluefin tuna sushi that is out of this world. Oishi also serves great specialty drinks, like the pom-martini, the zen, the green tea colada, and the sake bomb set. The prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. My favorite part of Oishi, is that no matter where I sit, hibachi, sushi, or bar, I can enjoy interacting with the chefs and bartender as they prepare masterpieces of meals. But be careful, Oishi is addicting!! Pros: Absolutely delicious food, great service, TVs to catch the games at the bar and sushi side, great prices, good for every occasion more
