A Great Find 2/23/2009

Just moved to the neighborhood and decided to try Oak for brunch. I am so glad I did as the food was fantastic, I had the polenta with chorizo, arugula and poached egg, which sounded strange but it was amazing, my friend had the french toast with pears and pomegranate syrup, can you say DELICIOUSSSSSSSS !!! and my other friend had the roast beef panini also fantastic. We washed it all down with Great Saki Bloody Marys, $3 Mimosas and the best coffee in the neighborhood. But what impressed us the most was that it all came out of a postage stamp sized kitchen and the place was packed. Well done Oak Cafe will be in for dinner soon more

Avoid Brunch and the Sake Bloody Marys 10/13/2008

I experienced Oak Cafe for the first time last week for dinner. I was surprised that there were only two other tables taken, but the menu looked good, so we decided to stay. The summer antipasto was amazing... as was the main entrees. Based on our great experience with dinner, we decided to try out Brunch this past Saturday. The waitress was very nice. However, when I asked if she could make my eggs using only the whites, she responded with, ""No.. the mix is already pre-mixed"", which I found odd. Also, when my boyfriend ordered his meal, the waitress had to ask the cook if they even had it. (Btw, we were the ONLY ones there). He ordered the soft polenta with poached egg, chorizo, and watercress salad... it all came mixed together in one bowl... watery (not SOFT, watery...) polenta, salad, chorizo, and egg. ..in like, a deep cereal bowl. To make things worse, they serve Bloody Marys with Sake in them. GROSS. My breakfast was alright, although it came with sausage in it, which was not mentioned in the menu. If you go at all, stick to dinner and avoid the Bloody Marys. Pros: summer antipasto Cons: sake bloody marys and everything about brunch (except the coffee) more

my favorite new cafe 4/21/2008

This place is divine. The food is amazing--I highly recommend the cheese plate and the gingered scallop salad. The cheese plate is the best one I've ever had...very wide variety of cheeses, homemade jam, honey and warm nutty toasted bread--you get A LOT for your money. The scallop salad is melt in your mouth perfection and comes with a generous pile of arugula salad with a light vinaigrette. The food seemed very fresh. The staff is wonderful as well. They are very attentive and genuine. I was very happy to be their patron. I can't wait to go back. Pros: fresh food, great value, cozy, wonderful staff Cons: can't think of any! more

Affordable and Delicious 3/21/2008

The food is tasty and affordable. My only complaint is the lack of seating for brunch on the weekends, though hopefully that will change in the summer when they open up the backyard. I'm excited that there is (finally) a good restaurant near the Graham stop that doesn't break the bank. Pros: Great food, nice atmosphere Cons: not enough seating more

great food, great service and beautiful decor 2/26/2008

I live in the neighborhood and have been very pleased with Oak Cafe. I've only been there for dinner, but have had great experiences everytime. The restaurant is cozy during the winter, and you can either sit at one of their small tables or at the bar. They also have a garden in the back for the warmer months. The food is really good. I've had their ribs, grilled sea bass and lentil soup with chorizo and enjoyed every dish, but I'd have to say the lentil soup was best. It's just a really warm restaurant with a relaxed vibe and really good service. Good date place! Pros: food and service Cons: not the best place if you have a big group of people more

Best spot on Graham Avenue: Terrific Food, Coffee, and service 2/13/2008

I love this place. The food is fresh and tasty. The staff is terrific (the guys who work the early shift always bring a smile to my face along with a delicious cappuccino and a slice of their banana bread). And, their prices are surprisingly reasonable given the quality of the food, which is consistently terrific (more than I can say for many other spots in the immediate neighborhood). For me though, the big bonuses of this place are A. it's in my hood and B. they have been terrific about catering to my cow's milk allergy. Last week, I had a delicious bowl of dairy-free but creamy red pepper soup and a chorizo and manchego sandwich. Yum. Pros: great food, service and coffee and garden out back Cons: three stops into brooklyn on the L train, limited menu, just stopped being BYOB more
