I took a beginning sewing class at Northwest Sewing through the North Seattle Community College and loved it. We learned all the basics - reading a pattern, laying out and cutting fabric, stitching (including button holes). You can bring your own machine or borrow one of theirs (better to learn on your own, but theirs are much nicer). The instructors are awesome - they know exactly how to walk you through the project. We made two piece flannel pajamas (fun fabrics from JoAnns make them cute). They suggested that you do the project a couple more times to make sure you get all the steps down so I now have several pairs of cute PJs (and so do my mother, boyfriend, etc...). Very fun.
