WAY over priced and big on advertising and marketing. Not sure they really cared to find out what was going on but ran EVERY test, necessary or not. I ended up spending over $1200 and in the end didn't need to spend that much to diagnost our problem. I lost interest in this place when I was called over and over about making future appointments and felt like it wasn't the care that they are interested in rather the money and getting people in for appointments. Too aggressive and overpriced for me to put up with. The office is very nice and I like the fact that it is cats only but can not put up with the phone calls, prices of treatment and marketing. more

Such a shame... 12/21/2011

I first visited NICC in 1988 to have my kitten neutered. They were still in their old building, a house on Rt 45 in or near Vernon Hills. At that time, Dr. Rebecca Schmitdt was in practice with her husband, Dr. James. Pros: null Cons: null more

Finally a place that gave me an answer. 3/4/2009

Just started coming here. Had been to Vernon Hills and Greentree animal hospitals prior to this. Was looking for a second opinion. No one could seem to diagnose what was wrong with my cat. He was having trouble breathing (gasping for air) it seemed for weeks. I don't want to say anything bad about the other places I just needed to know what was wrong. It was a relief to come here. The setting is peaceful and warm. Dr. Miller was great. She recommended chest x-rays and then a heart ultrasound. My poor kitty is in heart failure and on medication now. At least he is comfortable. I was so worried for so long and now I am at peace knowing we have an answer and can help him the best we can. Pros: They figured out what was wrong. more

Best for my cats 2/26/2009

I have 2 babies pepper and jasmime. I love my girls. We came here on a friends recommendation. I was very pleased with this hospital. Staff was excellent and the doctor was the best I have ever been to. Both my girls are now updated on all shots and tests. I really like the fact that they only take care of cats. The place was like my living room, clean, warm, and comfortable. No dogs allowed here :-). I would recommend them. more

Best cat care period 2/26/2009

I was there today. They actually requested that I write a review if I was happy. I can see why. Looks like some other members were upset. Not sure if they came to the same place lol. I mean they are not dirt cheap. I really felt however I got what I paid for. They had a great "package" for my older cat. I have to say I did see Dr. Schmidt. She really made my cat comfortable. We have been at other vets and my guy was all worked up hissing and such. Here he seemed calm. So the best part is he checked out good and after I take him back to have his teeth cleaned hopefully he will not have to leave the house for another year. Pros: Dr Schmidt was great Cons: Zero more

If you want a guilt trip and to throw your money away go here! 2/11/2009

I have recently brought my cat that is 13 years old to the clinic. I love her very much and she is my baby. I was looking for a local veterinarian after recently moving here. After waiting in the exam room for 45 minutes for our appointment, Dr. Miller finally arrived, and did an exam. My cat is becoming arthritic, and has few teeth left, and is showing her age. I was told that she was in a desperate need of a teeth cleaning, and that she had an abcess, (which following 2 seperate opinions is not true, she has irritation on the gum below one of her teeth, which is being treated) I was told she must be in terrible pain, and how terrible that was for her. After wanting to crawl under a table, I was then told that she needed full xrays, a geriatric workup, and full cardiac workup, and to be checked for glaucoma, and if all results are fine, she needs a dental cleaning. I was then told that someone would be in to discuss the cost. A woman that half scared me came in named Michelle, she made me feel like garbage when I told her that I could not pay the $1200.00 that they wanted that day for the "tests" I ended up paying $405.00, just for the first basic test. As I was waiting in the lobby a woman was picking up her cat that had a dental and she paid $800.00. A few days later Dr. Miller called me and told me the results were fine, but she wanted to run another test from serum left over, and that someone would be calling me to get the additional payment! I sure did get that call right away about my payment, but I refused to pay until I was sure the test was able to be run, so after numerous calls to the clinic, I have yet to get those results. These people have a nice office, and a cushy lobby, but at the pet owners great expense. If you want a guilt trip, and to feel like you are a bad parent to your cat, this is the place to go. The bottom line here is definetly MONEY!!!!!! Pros: Good cappuccino Cons: the entire experience more

Desperate for business 2/8/2009

I moved to the Libertyville area and have two cats. I set up an appointment with the Northern Illinois Cat Clinic and I was impressed with the furnishings when I arrived but things went downhill from there. I have been going to the clinic for a year now and am finally getting copies of my cat' s records and going elsewhere. The clinic has a lot of overhead and gave me the distinct impression they need more business; they wanted me to schedule my cats annual exam just ten months after the last one. I have never had a problem scheduling an appointment within a week of my phone call; the doctor felt my cat needed to have his teeth cleaned just eight months after the last cleaning. I brush my cat's teeth at home and they aren't that bad ; my cat needs a $5000 exploratory surgery because he tosses his stomach four times a week. When I told Dr. Shmidt I couldn't afford this surgery she said, 'You took on this responsibility when you brought the cat home.' I thought this was inappropriate. Yes, the clinic definitely uses your emotions. They seem to think that since the clinic has been around fof 25 years that that is the answer to everything. When in essence you SHOULD get second opinions and you DO need to use common sense on HOW MUCH treatment your cat needs. I believe there is a huge payroll: four vets (one is never there), Dr. Schmidt's son who is the hospital manager, a lady named Michelle who works in the back scheduling appointments, about 10 lab technicians.................. this hospital needs your business. Pros: Nice place Cons: plays with your emotions more

Be Cautious of the Feline Provider... 11/17/2008

My husband and I love our little Calico Kitty, Amy. She is the apple of our eye We were relatively new to the area, being transplants from Boston, Mass to the Libertyville area. Being proactive parents we asked around for suggestions of reliable veterinarians in our neighborhood. A neighbor of ours suggested, The Northern Cat Clinic. more

Great Cat Clinic 8/6/2007

Scarlett and I found Northern Illinois Cat Clinic last year after her previous vet was unable to diagnose kidney failure in her brother and litter mate. Both Scarlett and I were shell-shocked on our first visit because her litter mate had died about a week earlier. The staff was just amazing getting us through our initial visit and handled my very skittish cat (and me the very skittish owner) very well. Pros: Helpful, loving, knowledgable staff, wonderful with Senior Cats with many developing health issues more

First Class All Around 11/17/2006

I brought my cat Felix to this hospital. He had been chronically vomiting and became lethargic. Dr. Schmidt helped Felix immediately, started treatment that day and eventually diagnosed Felix with inflammatory bowel disease. My Felix is doing fantastic at this point! This hospital is clean, calm and the staff is caring. They made me feel like family and I will continue to go back forever. more

Cats Deserve Quality Care 6/8/2006

The Northern Illinois Cat Clinic in Libertyville is the best clinic I have ever seen and/or used. It is rare to find a practice limited to cats only. Dr. Rebecca Schmidt is not only knowledgeable about feline medicine and surgery; she is caring, compassionate, and has a very gentle touch when dealing with pets and their owners. Pros: Excellent service and quality care Cons: NONE more

A True Partner in Caring for Cats 8/24/2005

I can not say enough good things about the Cat Clinic and their staff. Dr. Miller is outstanding at what she does. She truly cares about her patients and treats them with love and respect. I wish human doctors showed as much concern for their patients as Doctor Miller does for hers. Pros: Care, Compassion, Service more
