North Beach is a great place to go if you need a beach fix, live in the Washington area, and don't have 2 1/2 to 4 hours to drive to the ocean. You can get there in 30-40 minutes if traffic is clear, and you'll feel like you're far, far away from the stresses of the city. No, there aren't the giant waves or massive beaches you'll find on the Delaware Shore or in Virginia Beach. But you will get to swim, chill on the sand and listen to seagulls. The beach is a bit small and you'll have to pay if you're not a resident...I can't remember the price but it's $5 or less. There also are a lot of children around (and if you like kids, then this is a bonus). There also is a long and pleasant boardwalk, and the obligatory trucks with junk food that you can buy. No, it's not the Atlantic Ocean, but I can tell you that when I've come here, I've gone home with the necessary attitude adjustment that a mini vacation usually provides.
