13th & Jackson
With all of the restaurants in the Old Market area, you might think it would be easy to find great food for a reasonable price, but it's not. Nicola's is definitely an exception to the rule though. Their food is excellent. I was there with a party of five (they were kind enough to let us squeeze into a table of four since we didn't have reservations). Everyone raved about their food and the wine list offered something for everyone. I tried the tiramisu for dessert -- a friend thought it lacked enough coffee flavor -- I was pleased by the richness, textures, and flavor. Others at the table ordered the brownie with vanilla bean ice cream and it was fabulous.
Entrees were reasonably priced around $12-18 and lighter fare (paninis and such) are available for around $8-10. With an appetizer, wine, entrees, and dessert our entire bill came to less than $160 for 5 people.
I should also add that the service was excellent -- a rarity in this area.
I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a change from the ordinary in Omaha -- the atmosphere is lovely and it would make for a wonderful date spot. They do take reservations (I would recommend calling ahead) and there is outdoor seating when the weather allows.
