Mama Mia!! 8/6/2009

Well first of all I am not a big fan of pizza, but when I heard about this place, I had to try it and what a delight. The Pizza was like none I had before so I went back and tried other delights and so far, after experimenting for about a month,I havenot been disappointed. The service is good and the atmosphere is great. Totally Pros: the best Pizza and Italian I could find Cons: None that I see more

Great Pizza...service could be a lot better 4/24/2009

I had been driving past this restaurant and always wanted to try it. Today we had a bacon pizza, a pepperoni pizza, hot wings and an anti-pasto salad. We washed it down with whire belgian ale that was frosty cold. The pizza is VERY good. It's hard to find good wood fire pizza on the west coast, and this is a gem when it comes to that. The crust is delicious and the toppings were good quality. The wings were actually quite good too! Well spiced and didn't taste frozen or generic. The decor is unique, and if you are a local of the Silverlake / Los Feliz area you will appreciate the pictures of the area dating back to the 1800's. Our only complaint was that the service was quite slow. We had to get up a few times to find our server sitting near the back to get a few more pints. We also had to look for her to get the check. If the service gets better, the place will be an awesome place to eat and have some tasty cold beers. I'm willing to give it another shot. Pros: Pizza is very good, so are the wings, cold beer Cons: Service is a little slow and poor more

My favorite LA pizza joint 2/5/2009

I'm from New York. It took me awhile to find a good, east-coast style wood-fired, thin, slightly charred crust pizza. This place does it well enough. It would rank a 7 out of 10 in NYC, which is good enough for out here. Highly recommended. Pros: Good thing crust, woodfired pizza. more

Great pie! 10/14/2008

Great neighborhood joint. The pizza is perfectly cooked, the sauce is well spiced (and thankfully not sweat) and the toppings are fresh & of good quality. A great find. Pros: Great pie, solid service more

Terrible delivery experience! Bad food & bad customer service 9/22/2008

Everything that could have went wrong did. The food showed up over a half an hour late and very cold. We ordered mannicotti and received mislabled cannelloni instead, WITH CHICKEN IN IT, FOR A VEGATARIAN!!!! Any food that made my friend physically ill is not something I'll recommend. Besides that the pizza was flavorless and very small. The topper was calling to let them know and being told that there was no manager by some snotty high school aged sounding girl who didn't bother to apologize and offered a credit for an individual pizza as compensation, an $8 credit for a $40+ completely terrible meal. Pros: none I experienced Cons: awful food and customer service more

I love Nicky D's! 8/19/2008

This is my first review, but I just had to voice my opinion about Nicky D's. I've traveled all over the states. No matter where I am, I always keep an eye out for good thin crust pizza like one can get in New York. After moving to LA, I was lucky to find Nicky D's not too far from my neighborhood. It's one of the best pizza's I've ever had, which is saying quite a lot. His pizza is always crispy. The crust is delicious. The topping never overwhelm and are never overwhelmed by the crust. I've never had a soggy pizza there. Based on my extensive experience with Nicky's pizza, I think that the previous reviewers that posted such horrible reviews sound like unscrupulous competitors. Pros: Great New York style pizza!! Cons: Not within walking distance of my house more

Really Disappointing 7/15/2008

The variety of toppings really got my hopes up, but the basic pizza itself was terrible. First of all - totally soggy, squishy crust - blech. Secondly - NO TOMATO SAUCE. I mean , I went looking for it, but this pizza was just a blanket of gooey cheese with toppings on top. Don't get me wrong - I love cheese, but when it comes to pizza, you need a nice ratio of tomato to cheese, and this place just fails utterly. It's a pity - charming place, promising-looking menu...but lousy pizza. Pros: Cute Place Cons: Bad Pizza more

Bordering on Irrelevant 6/28/2008

What happened to this place.. Did this place do downhill. .or rather did better places spring up. The place has poor service, soggy lamp heated pizza, incompetent managers and lazy wait staff. No wonder new places like Tomato Pie Pizza is full. I think these guys totally dropped the ball... more

This place couldn't be worse. 5/20/2008

I have given this place four tries. Only one time did I have a good meal and Ok service.... The other three times became progressively worse. Don't even think about complaining to the manager/owner. He wa son the verge of being a pig. The orders are NEVER correct and the two waitresses I have had could care less. I will never go back. Pros: Good pizza when done right. Cons: Awfull service and food never the way you want it. more

Nicky D's was once terriffic; now it is bordering on poor 3/11/2008

Nicky D's used to be great. Truly great. Consistently terrific pizza, gelato, and atmosphere. Pros: If they get your order right, then it will taste amazing Cons: They rarely get your order right. Manager is oblivious (not Nick - he's great) more

Man, whats up? 2/19/2008

Tried Nicky D's a second time. Ordered a pizza with thin crispy crust. The pizza was missing a topping, soggy thick crust and pretty much tasteless. Don't see what the buzz is about this place and don't see going back again, unless its for coffee. Pros: cute atmosphere Cons: not so good pizza. need chef ramsey. more

sssoooo so delicious 4/28/2007

I love Nicky D' of the best pizza's I've had in my lifetime. The place is small and cozy, I've never had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to be seated. The staff is really friendly. Good wine list, excellent entrees and salads!! Its a great place to go on a date, or with friends, or alone....just delicious!! Pros: Food is worth it Cons: place is small...& it's tough to find parking more

Excellent Pizza and salads, fast delivery, friendly service 12/7/2006

We live around the corner and get fast delivery service from Nicky D's on a regular basis. We usually order a large peperoni and garlic pizza and the greek salad. Both items are excellent. The pizza is traditional with a thin crust that is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The sauce is well seasoned and the pies are topped with the right amount of cheeze. They always use plenty of toppings and real, fresh garlic. The salad greens are high quality and the balsamic dressing is excellent. For fast, friendly traditional italian pizza, this place is a real winner. more

Great Reviews on Citysearch, sadly my experience didnt match... 7/15/2006

Theres something fishy going on here, and im not talking about anchovies! Ive never felt compelled to review a restaurant on Citysearch, though I read them often, and depend on them to help me separate the good from the bad. Pros: The patio seems charming Cons: Pizza with wet, limp crust, inattentive servers more

East Coast Pizza in Silverlake 7/9/2006

The pizza is thin and the crust is fluffy and delicious. They put on just the right amount of cheese and toppings. The patio is like sitting in someone's back yard--no LA attitude here. I think this may be the best pizza that I have had in Los Angeles. Pros: PIZZA!!!!! more

Like I'm in NYC but I'm in LA thinking I'm in NYC 6/6/2006

Perhaps some of the best pizza i have had outside of the New York area. Almost as good as Nino's on Long Island, almost. If you are jonesn' for some pizza and you live in Silver Lake, do yourself a favor and h!t Nicky D's. more

Good place to kick back and have a pie 4/20/2006

The owner of Nicky D's is originally from Connecticut so knowing this, I had to order a garlic clam pizza on white sauce. After taking a bite, Connecticut's loss is Silverlake's gain. Local's don't have to endure ridiculously long waits at Eagle Rock's Casa Bianca if they want a good pizza. First timers need to go with the garlic clam on white and maybe order the teriyaki chicken pizza as a contrast in flavors. The pies are woodfired and the crust got a good taste to it. Another bonus is after having your slices, Nicky D's has gelato for those that need to soothe their sweet tooth. There is parking across the street next to the firestation if you can't find any in the main lot or the street. And don't go there during oscar night. For some reason, the place gets slammed for take out orders on that day. Pros: Garlic clam on white, Good prices, Gelato Cons: Parking can be tough, Avoid during oscars more

A definite place to have as your local favorits 1/15/2006

We went for the first time just recently and found it to be amazing! The food was great, it was kid friendly and the service was good. It's kind of small, but if you want to order in I'm sure the food would still be just as good! Watch out for the parking lot, it's also small. Overall, you have to go! Pros: food, price Cons: parking, small interior more
