I wanted to give it 0 starsd but I couldn't.. So we enter and are asked Bar side or Restaurant side, I have no issues with bar side but the Smoke was roilling into the lobby so we opted for restaurant side. I have no issues with smokers I just don't and don't want that smell having an effect on my taste. So we sit down at 8:13, Yes I time all service. 8:16, 3 workers have passed our table, No biggie we are deciding on appetizers, NO drink order taken we are invisible. 8:20PM employees are passing us by no one even looks at us.... 8:28, this is 15 minutes after we enter the building and are seated by the hostess who is responsible for making sure the server gets to us within 5 minutes (good practice) as we leave she just stands there and smiles like we ate in 15 minutes and says have a good night... I just glared at her. Obviously their bar side is more important thatn their restaurant side as we watched tray after tray of food go over there, Yes I am a Kansas City Food Critic and I will return and expect perfection of a $22 Prime Rib, they had a SIRLOIN on SPECIAL for $17. REALLY a SIRLOIN! obviously the number of bar patrons sustains this restaurant that is pitiful at best. I didn't even get to taste the Sweet Tea, your better bet for a meal is a nice little restaurant around the corner called Roxanne's, I will never put down Roxanne's, it isn't touted to be a "classy" place so you get good comfort food at a great price great atmosphere. Will I return to N&J's YOU BET I WILL! more

Great Meals 9/19/2006

I've been to Nick & Jakes a few times for dinner. The atmosphere is what I'd call "classy casual." The menu is very diverse which is nice when you have people in your party with different tastes. The chicken pot pie is huge! My husband likes it because there are TVs in all the corners of the dining room so he can watch sports while pretending to talk to me. It's a convenient location at 9 and 45 Highways if you live in the Parkville area. For those who don't, it's about 5 minutes from I-29. I'd definitely recommend it! more
