Nicholas' Will Rock Your World 10/5/2006

Check out Nicholas's on Sandy Blvd. Their lebanese food is prolific and outstanding. Try the mezza platter; you'll be overwhelmed with hummus, hubcap-sized pitas, garbanzos soaked in olive oil, lentil soups, and coffee. Their place is a little small, but I like to call it cozy, and it's worth it for the price. I'm not even really a Mediterranean food fan but I always make sure to hit their place when I'm in town! more

Hummus and lamb galore 1/13/2006

Nicolas Restaurant serves Lebanese and Middle Eastern fare and the name of the game here is large platters of reasonably priced food. Sandwiches run in the $6-$7 range and you can order a specialty dish for about $9. I like their lamb, hummus and baba ghanoush but find the rice pilaf uninspiring. Unless you’ve got an enormous appetite the specialty plates provide enough food to last you through the next day. The biggest downfall is that Nicolas Restaurant doesn’t accept reservations and there is very little room to wait. This means that once you add your name to the list you may end up huddled outside hiding from the rain under the canopy until your party is called. Nicolas Restaurant, 318 SE Grand Ave, Portland. For the Mediteranean in You 1/4/2006

This restaurant has all the pita, falafils and humus you could want. They bring a big pita to your table and everyone pulls off a piece so if you do not like others touching your food, get something else. For those with a taste for indian spices this is a really good spot. I have a harder time with some of the flavors but others I know who really like this type of food rave about Nicholas, so I think it is a good choice. more
